When I was just starting out, I wish there was a cheat sheet to amazing resources. This is how I would spend $100 on TPT.
Due to the nature of our population, my team spends a fair amount of time problem-solving and modifying challenging behaviors. Lately, we've been working on conducting some functional behavior analyses to gather more information regarding the factors that motivate and maintain some of our current, complex behaviors. I use this data form (adapted from Writing Behavioral Intervention Plans (p. 55-62), by Laura Riffel, 2005.) to collect details regarding the ABCs of a behavior: antecedent, behavior, and consequence. To determine severity and schedule systems of positive reinforcement, we are currently using this chart to document behavior frequency and create DRO (differential reinforcement of other behaviors; I highly recommend the online training module on Differential Reinforcement here for more detailed information) schedules, when appropriate. The schedule that I am currently using this for employs five-minute time increments, but I adjust the form to work at other frequencies. I change each of these documents to create a version that suits the needs of a specific client or behavior. I also edit them to be used in tracking ABC data across other environments such as home or daycare. How do you measure and analyze challenging behavior? Other resources that I find helpful can be found here and on the Project STAY site here.
During my first few segments in the 'SLP 101' series, I've mentioned 'Working Folders'. I thought I'd explain what that means to me! I actually have 3 different systems this year because I'm in 3

As a school-based SLP, I did A LOT of paperwork and it didn't take long for me to figure out how important organization systems were in my daily way of work. I had a huge caseload of students, but keeping systems for paperwork really saved my sanity. And, let me just tell you, I am not an organized person by nature, so these tips are ones that ANY SLP can use!
Even SLPs need to work smarter and not harder, so check out this tech edition of tools for SLPs that shares nine of my favorite tools to help me work!
SLP’s working in the school setting can easily be spread thin. If an SLP isn’t monitoring what he/she is committing to or looking at their current work load situation, things can go from manageable to chaotic in a blink of an eye. We must say no at work when we can’t do something! I compiled […]
One of the things that we all focus on when heading back to school is the logistics. With a mountain of to-dos, what do we tackle first?

I often find myself taking data within the classroom setting for social skills, classroom skills, and executive functioning skills such as: --on-task/attending --interrupting/blurting --asking for help --following teacher directions accurately --following multiple-step directions --effectively organizing --prioritizing --getting right to work after a direction has been given --volunteering answers --initiating conversations and interactions appropriately -- conversational turns I also collect classroom data for stuttering and articulation for those students who have very high skills and are needing to generalize to other settings (e.g., classroom, lunchroom, recess, center time, specials classes). I have the opportunity to co-teach a small life-skills focused English class at the high school level. I do several 15-minute 'walk throughs' in second and third grade. I co-teach small group 3rd grade writing/reading with the resource teacher. For each of these settings I have found Push In notes pages helpful and effective. I find it most effective to have a clipboard with 1 page per student with a classroom behavior. This way, data collection is as simple as grabbing my clipboard and walking into a classroom. You can download these pages free at my TpT store HERE

From discussions with my SLP friends and what I have read on several other blogs, we are all always trying to refine our data collection. I know for myself, I love to see what other people are doing...so of course I thought I would share my own system, which continues to be changed a little every year. I am a fan of paper and pen...I know with the explosion of iPads in therapy, a lot of therapists are using digital data collection. I happen to think this is fabulous; however, I do not currently use it. What am I waiting for? Someone to buy me an iPad :)
