1949 Willys Jeepster

De Jeep is oorspronkelijk van Amerikaanse origine. Er bestaan verschillende verhalen over het ontstaan van de naam Jeep (in het Engels is "Jeep" fonetisch "G-P"). Een vroeg prototype bij Ford heette de GPW (1/4-ton 4x4 truck). Waar de G staat voor Government en de P een code is voor de afmeting van de wielbasis. De W kwam van" Willys-Overland" naar de naam van de ontwerper.
