I recently had a wonderful time with my family in Norway, where the idea of making this shawl came to my mind. I wanted to give it a name which will always remind me of this beautiful country, and Solveig seems to be the best choice. The shawl begins with the classic triangular shape worked in garter stitch and after a section of eyelets and bobbles, it is finished with a beautiful border of Japanese lace. The scalloped edge is formed by the lace pattern, so you don’t need to work short rows or any other methods of creating such beautiful edge.

This Vervain Shawl Free Knitting Pattern is perfect for wearing on both chilly and warm days, with a gorgeous and nice design!
A classic construction combined with a traditional stitch pattern in an innovative way. Halimede is worked from the top down, beginning with a garter tab cast on. Stitches are increased at the ends of every row for a shallow easy-to-wear shape. The usual centre spine of a triangular shawl is replaced with a feather and fan panel, increasing several stitches every few rows. This design detail also rounds the shape of the shawl. The vertical panel of feather and fan combines with horizontal bands of the same stitch pattern. A wider border of the pattern completes the shawl. This variant of feather and fan combines garter and stockinette columns for a slightly different look than usual that highlights the shifting arrangement of the stitches. If you’re new to top-down shawl knitting Halimede is an excellent first project and Laura’s made a helpful tutorial for how to work the garter tab cast on so you can get started with confidence
These Easy Mesh Knitted Shawls are easy to make, so creating them will be a pleasure and I'm sure you'll be proud when you're done!

I love a good rustic yarn, Lopi and Jamieson & Smith top my list of favorites. So when I saw Clara Parkes' next single batch yarn was from Shetland, I very impulsively purchased two skeins. While I considered joining in the Hapalong and turning it into a traditional Shetland Hap, none of the patterns I came across seemed quite special enough for this beautiful yarn. So I came up with my own simple shawl inspired by the Shetland Hap. It is a triangular top down shawl, with a simple lace motif and a bit of garter stitch. (And perhaps some day I’ll be just lucky enough to wear it in Shetland!) The sample was made with Clara Yarn Shetland 1.0. A suggested substitute yarn is shown below.
