Instructions below. instructions: (these look long, but it is really easy.... just long to write) Needed: vinegar, white or apple cider salt, just regular old salt out of my shaker. For small items. I fill a quart yogurt container half full of vinegar, and sprinkle in some salt. (not measured, but guess 1 tsp.??) dump your keys, clips, hinges, watch parts, locks... any metal you want to 'age'. I leave them over night, just 'cause it is convenient. In morning, I take them out with my tongs (used only for this), and put them on newspaper. (you can try a couple hours if in hurry) I leave them there for the day...again just because it is easy. (the newspaper does not do anything special, just keeps mess from getting on anything else. =) Check to see how they are doing. If not rusty or blue enough put them in again. same process,and keep doing that till they are color or degree you want. (you will see they continue to rust while even sitting out.) The vinegar works to cut through the surface of the metal, and the air oxidizes it. PLEASE NOTE: Different metals react differently. Thus, some rust, some patina blue. Brass is metal that turns blue. When they are rusty enough, I rinse with water. (to rinse I have another yogurt container with small holes poked in bottom. I put them in there, run water over it and then shake water out). Then dry with a rag.. If you will be handling them a lot I suggest spraying them with clear sealer, but I have not done that yet. A little rust never hurt me....=) I use the same vinegar for weeks.... just add more salt all the time. You can also sprinkle items with salt while on newspaper. gives them a sort of splotchy look. NOTE: some metals take longer to break through surface. Be patient. if you do it enough times, almost anything will rust. *Galvanized metal does not rust but this will cause a dull surface. I pick up any little metal things at garage sales, and rust it all!! so fun to use on collages, place in bowl as conversation piece. Use old rusty clips to hold art..... Capture Beautiful Dreams This is one of the follow up tags from the tutorial I did using the distress microglaze as a resist - if you missed the tutorial you can find it HERE. You may remember the tag began this life as a mop up from my spare box of bits ... ... and had the microglaze treatment through a stencil. It looked like this before I blended more distress inks over it. To make up the tag I collected elements I wanted to put together, but as always they changed and got added to as you will see in the finished photo. I also stenciled through the latticework stencil with iced spruce and tea dye before using a small splatter stamp with picket fence distress paint. It was then ready to make up the design. I changed the mini tag and added the numbers and a star, these helped complete the balance and interest of the final layout. The sentiment was made up using chit chat stickers and I added a stamped pen nib too. I love this picture from the photo booth collection. just a ticket a mini paperclip again add more interest, texture and depth. With the film strip and numbers and a piece from a framework die the composition and design was complete. Så er foråret ankommet og sommerhus sæsonen kan så småt begynde... Jeg har indrettet mit eget sommerhus kun med gamle ting. Huset er fra sidst i 40érne og er ikke ret stort , men det var "Kærlighed" fra første blik og var fra starten klar over at det skulle bevarer så meget af sin gamle stil som overhovedet muligt. Det skulle være et fristed som skulle kunne bruges fra det tidlige forår til sent efterår. Og nu 25 år efter ligner huset stort set stadig selv selv. Indeni er der justeret en smule på indretningen , køkkenet er blevet en lidt større og der er kommet et par "moderne" hjælpemidler til , som vaske og opvaskemaskine , men "Badet" forgår stadig udendørs i den lille lukket gård. Selve boligindretningen af huset er lidt mere "landligt" og afslappet end indretningen "hjemme" i byen , der er ting der passer bedre ind i et gammelt træ hus på "landet" end i en gammel Københavner lejlighed. Indretningen er dog stadig indrettet kun med "hjertet" og med ting som jeg elsker og holder af. Alle tingene er fundet rundt omkring på vores ture i Frankrig og Sverige som vi ofte er på når vi skal finde varer til butikken K&Co. Selv om jeg er rigtig glad for indretningen som den er lige nu , sker der hvert år alligevel nogle små ændringer , gamle ting må ind imellem vige pladsen for nye indkøb. I år kunne jeg ikke holde ud at se på "maskinepakken" i køkkenet , så måtte udtænke en plan og har så lavet nogle forhæng langs køkkenbordet af gamle hør sække og rå vandrør , så vaskemaskinen , opvaskemaskinen , gryder og andet blev skjult. I stuen er TV , musikanlæg også "gemt væk" i reolen bag et par gamle Fransk skodder som er blevet tilpasset og sat på som låger. Højtalerne er blevet "beklædt" med groft hør stof , så de også er blevet mindre synlige. Huset er på blot 42 kvm. og består af stue , køkken , soveværelse samt en veranda , så der skal ind imellem tænkes lidt kreativt for at få huset møbleret med alle de ting jeg gerne vil ha. Så for at skabe sammenhæng og ro over de mange ting , er farverne holdt i lyse , grålige toner og med en blanding møbler i træ og metal , men alt sammen kun gamle ting med patina og sjæl. Jeg synes det er rigtig fint når folk mikser nyt og gammelt , antikt og moderne , men personligt holder jeg så meget af det "liv" og historie de gamle ting har , så jeg er gået "all in" med de gamle ting i min egen indretning. Lige så snart vejret tillader det blive verandaen taget i brug , den er indrettet så man både kan spise og slappe af i ly af vejr og vind , så lige så snart der er lidt varme i luften er det her man "hænger" ud. Alle tingene er købt med "hjertet" både hjemme privat , i sommerhuset og i butikken K&Co. Fransk Antik , hvor vi handler med ting i samme "stil".
