Last day Karen Pardee will be here before she leaves for Japan the next day for 2 weeks! She still has plenty of saori fabric that she brought that needs to be designed and sewn today .. Here is a collage of some of Karen's collection of vests that she wove over the past few years and made in her studio. Here is a collage of some of the fabulous ones she wore this week. ….and here is a bias cut jacket that was made out of one karen's yardage pieces she brought to" turn into something I do not know what?" she said. BUT I knew right away what some of the pieces could be and sooo i enjoyed designing and helping Karen learn some new sewing techniques using Karen's Saori fabric was the aim of this workshop/retreat and it was so nice to visit with a friend too! pressing is important…. try on, take off, try on alter, take off sew...! of course you can do this with a dress form for yourself when you are alone too... Deciding on placement of the jacket's front edge band, decisions... but not over thinking or obsessing ! remember to let it flow, karen is wonderful at that! It turned out really well. she will decide if she wants to ad pockets in a month or two…. for now it is a wonderful piece karen can add to her wardrobe !!!! Karen was to finish twisting the fringes back in her hotel room before leaving for the airport in the morning, And she did , this jacket was packed in her suitcase so no finished photos with the twisted fringes but you can see it is a fabulous coat/jacket in spring colors! Still time to address some of Karen's UFO's. we turned this piece a vest that was not working by turning it upside down and folding and tucking and sewing to made a deep collar to emphasize her woven in beautiful ruffle detail. then to angle and fold back the front edges. It is a total save!!! over laped front with a pin or stick… a very nice piece now. Karen brought back the Saori Piccolo from her hotel where she wove in her room in the evenings . She finished her scarf she had woven here with memories woven in of her visit here at the beach redwoods, and freindship!. It has a woven in slit for design options in wearing! very cool Karen! Bright and Cinco de Mayo -esk because we were at the beach on may 5th! One end has woven finger fringes with wrapping! so creative Karen!!! mean while Antoinette is braiding her Saori hat together... Karen was so sweet she brought me gifts, yummy maple sugar candy from her home town, a cool container to hold cut thread scraps that she made , and this wonderful plied fabric strip cord she makes! Antoinette and I asked her to show us how she did it ! so she did Antoinette got it ! and Antoinette finished her saori cap! I love it ! don't you? Saori santa cruz classes or email me from my website for more info and to schedule a class. one last piece to finish for Karen .... a vest…. adding a side piece and working a few pieces to place under in the back and sew down .It is A really cute vest now karen! you do wonderful Saori weaving! A very fruitful fun week, it was nice to write these blogs and and to look back on how much we accomplished in less than 4 days ! A lovely crochet book remastered by me from an original 1917 period source. This book is from the 1910s, WWI era and features sweaters, a camisole, scarves, baby items, and even the upper part of slippers! When making slippers, I'm unsure where you would get the base- but you may be able to cleverly add them to a purchased pair of heels. ** PLEASE NOTE ** Garment sizes are not given in this book. In general, sizing of garments in this period were on the smaller size (32-36" bust), with a smaller waist ratio than modern times. It's best to make a test swatch to attempt to find the gauge. These patterns are all for "Glossilla" rayon crochet thread. The thread size is not stated. These are *not* for yarn. This e-book is 36 pages long in entirety. TYou can download these after your purchase is completed. This digital pattern comes to you in PDF format, and includes instructions remastered from authentic period materials. Adjustments to yarn, thread, hook, or needle sizes may be needed. Vintage sizing was different than modern sizing so please go off of body measurements instead of size numbers. Unfortunately, as very much a novice crocheter and knitter, I'm not able to give construction or making advice for this period pattern. This remastered historical craft pattern is provided for adventurous makers who like to explore antique patterns and construction. Use Policy- this e-book is for the person who purchased it alone and may not be shared by email or other forms. You are more than welcome to make knitted and crocheted items from the e-book to sell. Thanks! Please check out my policies for more info and ask any questions before ordering.

The Eirwen cape was designed to evoke the magnificant drama of snow-capped mountains, icicles, and powder snow. The name is Welsh for ‘snow white’. The pattern provides both full written instructions and a chart for the lace. It also includes clearly illustrated tutorials for ‘nupps’ (Estonian bobbles) and ‘make one back’ increases. Hello to all my readers....I want to thank everyone for all the extra prayers sent to Becky , I am still , as all of you are too, in such heartbreak for her and her family and I know when she is ready to come back, it will warm her heart to know such love and support. Most times , creativity flows from me when I'm the happiest. But sometimes when life is harder than normal and I question things, I try and escape a bit into a project or an endeavor to keep my mind busy and I suppose to find some joy in simple things. Whether that's hanging out with my kids, or if they are busy, then it's finding something to inspire me....So this week it was spent looking around for something that needed refreshing or something to lift up my spirit a bit...So I got out my brushes and picked on an old antique side table. It was pickled green before and now is brighter and filled with the colors of my Bath....a perfect escape it was... I really love vintage soap labels, the colors are so pretty , and so tranquil too, perfect for a Bath retreat "home spa day"..... set them all around you and not just for guests , but to make you feel special and pampered a bit... I was inspired by the colors in it, to transform the table.....This picture below was the table before.... Afterword's I brought it out into the kitchen , a place I'm in so often that I like to put anything there that makes me happy. But it just doesn't work here, so back to the Bathroom in went..... I think it's much better here below..... :) Which inspired me to make the Bath more of a retreat for the weekend that wasn't feeling too good or happy... Sometimes I find it silly to think that material things, or changing around rooms can really brighten a persons outlook, but I believe it wasn't so much the end result, but in the "doing" that I escaped a bit and felt a little better... The cabinet above is where I keep all my makeup and creams, and under the sink too, but I don't think that is photo material :) It will have to wait till spring, when I feel like throwing out anything older than a year like they say we should. I have nail polish that is as old as my daughter ( 13 ) ....lol... But I do have to say, on better days, the makeup counter at Ulta can be very dreamy :) This is a view of the cabinet doors below, I fell in love with the etching and just had to have it.... I used to sew, but now the machine is gathering dust up in the attic :).... I was never very good at it, but this shower curtain in my Bath made me a bit too proud :) because I thought after this curtain was finished, I could sew anything! Oh was I so so wrong! So needless to say, it was my last project on the machine . I made it because I could never find a curtain to reach the floor in ready-mades, so off I went to do my own.... I love these Hand Towels below, they just arrived last week and they really soften the corner of the bath....Thanks Bekah! Hand made and such pretty detail... I adore soaps! again, silly and trite at times, but the colors and scents just make me feel so good. I use a lot of different brands, but as you can see, you can even dress up some sweet Ivory Soap and make it perfect for guests, or just to see a pretty little detail for yourself .... I bought this towel rack last year at Home Goods, and on the back of the door to the Bath it's just perfect to hanging anything on....I added the rose decal :) So go ahead and take a little time for you too, do something to lift you up , no matter what it is.... I've added a few favorite links to soap shops that I love , I hope you enjoy them, or find something you are looking for too... These sweet "farm chic" soaps are such incredible soaps, they are smooth as silk on your skin and smell beautiful too! The Pretty little Hen soaps are from Bullet at Home .... These pale pink cottage candle sticks are for sale in My Shop ....I just love using candles in a Bath, it makes it so much more tranquil.... And of course, I love walking into Crabtree and Evelyn , their stores are pure escape....I actually designed an entire bathroom around the box above for a client once, It was so pretty and uplifting in soft pale blues and whites.... Another good one , and one that it's in almost every Mall is..... The Body shop...and the Milk Bath is my favorite! Remember to take a few moments or longer, to give to yourself as much as you give to others....we all give best from a full cup.... so when you're happy, or even when you're sad , take care of your spirit any way you enjoy ! I hope you all have a wonderful week! and Thank You for giving me a reason to escape a bit. I am a little behind on my blog surfing, so I am looking forward to visiting you all !! Many Hugs and Blessings! ~ Cynthia ~
