Whether you have a few extra minutes or a lot of extra fabric, a little generosity goes a long way when it comes to sewing charities.
SO….Finally it is complete. My new sewing studio. It seems to have taken forever, though it has only really been a few weeks. What turmoil we have gone through in the house, living with dust …
Start with 2 pounds lean ground beef and one package of beef kielbasa sausage Brown in a cast iton skillet (I use my Great Grandmother's pan) While the meat is browning, cut up two yellow onions,2 green peppers, 2 red peppers )grown in the USA preferably-unless you live in another fine country with good agriculture rules),5 cloves garlic cut fine, 5 ribs of celery (I like using the middle ones), Take cooked meat and put in large crock pot or large simmering pan, Put vegies in cast iron pan and saute, then add to meat along with the tomatoes -sometimes I add frozen corn though I didn't this time Add one can of mild chilies for flavor and as many jalapeno's as your family can take-I only used a tablespoon of them cut finely-we are wimps Add two cans (not the little one shown-bigger)of tomato sauce, two cans of Italian chopped tomatoes, and two cans of the petite cut tomatoes Vegies, don't they look pretty? And do they ever add flavor Ok, I add alot of stuff for flavor- I usually add about 2 teaspoons of each except the pepper. I only shake out a nice amount and with the beau monde I can usually use more-I just cook like my Grandma and add until it tastes good=then add 3 beef bouillion cubes and 2 cups of hot water-we don't drink here at the house but if I had leftover red wine, a little would go in also Worchestershire sauce is delicious in every kind of stew or chili-a must! And a good healthy pour of about 3 tablespoons or so of honey-it makes a huge difference! I also threw in a bit of tabasco but kept it light for my family. I like what it does to chili-read on and see what my husband said. After all of this is stirred up, then add these beans and a package of chili mix. It sounds like alot but it is well worth it! Now, when I dish up the chili, I serve it with crushed tortilla chips, olives cut up, sour cream (low fat), sharp cheddar cheese and cut up avacado. You can put the leftovers on baked potatoes and it is like a whole other meal and you can share with your friends, neighbors or family. I am taking half of this to Montana to share with my Aunt and my cousin along with cornbread and maybe cider. Bon Appetite! My husband said to tell you it was delicious but he liked the sour cream because it cut the heat-if you love heat then add some tabasco to your own dish of chili VEGETARIAN? I make a good soup style chili without meat that is delicious and just right if you don't eat meat. I don't eat much of it and my daughter works for an organic healthfood store. I make it like this and instead of meat, I add cut up red potatoes, a small head of cabbage shredded and cut up carrots. I happen to love turnips in there as well but not everyone loves turnips. It is just as good and fits the bill if beef isn't your thing. :0) Winning Fabric- if you did not read my posting about God's amazing design, please do and if you comment you will be in the drawing for fabric-I am choosing 6 names out of a hat or someone here is.......we do this very fair.

I try to catch up on my dear friend Liz’ SewingRoom SewAlong project. I probably won’t create all the sewing related items I’ve missed over the last few months, but the plan is to make a thread catcher and a sewing machine cover within the next weeks. I’ll maybe add this month’s challenge – a scissor’s etui to the do-do list as well. The April project is done already. I’ve made this pincushion, using again a sugar bowl that I had found at the flea market last year. ******* Shortly before our move I had received a wonderful package from my dear Danish friend Dorthe and it’s overdue that I show you these. Sweet Dorthe over at Den Lille Lade had created a gorgeous fabric collage with a lovely rose image for me. Take a look at all the yummy laces she had used. Absolutely beautiful! Dorthe had also included this fabulous angel for a safe travel. Isn’t she pretty? I kept her in my purse during our 3-day ride South and the trip went well :-). Now she’s got a place in the studio. Other sweet gifts were this pretty lavender heart and the wonderful vintages clips. Thank you again, dear Dorthe!!! You know how much I love your gifts. Everything will be treasured for sure. I still work on finishing up the studio for the “Where Bloggers Create” party on July 14th. Without that deadline in mind I probably would have put off several things for quite a while, like painting some more pieces of furniture etc. Now I’m happy that they are done or will be finished soon. See you next Saturday then … :-) Have a lovely weekend! HUGS, Julia

"Hearts and flowers, ribbons and lace, the look of love upon her face." ~Unknown Life has been so busy lately that I just haven't had time to do a proper post - the kind where I devote an entire afternoon to setting up and taking photographs. I miss it! So yesterday I MADE time so that I could take some pictures for you that I have been wanting to take for ages! I love ribbons, lace, trims, embroidery, fabric flowers, etc, etc (you probably already knew that!). I have amassed quite a collection now and have been so excited to share it with you. My Mum and I use some of these things to make the GILLYFLOWERS and others are being saved for that future special project. I dip into this supply and replace things all the time. Many of these trims come from France and Japan where some of the most beautiful ribbons I have found are made. My guilty pleasure now is to visit the little ribbon store in town and find something new for my collection. I have tried to display everything well and I hope that you enjoy this little perusal. I have also added a few new things to the Etsy SHOP so stop by and have a peek! Wherever you are I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Summer week! Registration is now open I've always thought about how life can be likened to a road, it has straight stretches, but more often than not it also has many winding corners and mountain ranges. As we travel along our road, we also make many stops. Maybe it's to raise children, maybe it's marriage, separation or death. But, no matter what the road is like, we are often blessed to find some fabulous friends along the way, and some wonderful places. I wanted to make a wall hanging that reflected that in a quirky kind of way. This quilt reflects for me the road taken to my house and I would love for you to join me in this journey. The road to my house Make a delightful quilted wall hanging with me. This quilt will be unique and personal to you as it narrates the story of the road to your house. Celebrate your very own journey. Together we will use our sewing machines for some free motion stitching and a little hand stitching to add depth. Add a smattering of teabags, some vintage linen, an assortment of special treasures from your sewing room to embellish and you will have a wall hanging that's very individual and incredible. I will be there every step of the journey to advise you and guide you. Make your wall hanging the same size as mine or make it smaller. As we work together you can follow my directions and explore ideas generated in the workshop or you can be adventurous and put your own spin on your project, whichever road you take, remember, it’ll lead to your house. Play with fabric, step away from the burden of producing 'perfect' all the time. The quirkiness that you lend to this wall hanging will make it unique and a stunning piece of art. This workshop includes recycled new and vintage materials and will allow you to include as much or as little detail as you want to in the embellishing. All stitches are easy and I will help you if you get stuck with easy to follow directions, photos and videos. Work on this project at your own leisure, the wee stitcheries lend themselves to being popped into your purse and taken with you. Finish the hand stitching while you wait for the children, or at home while you watch tv. The class blog will remain open for an unlimited time. COST: $US55.00 START DATE: 11th September 2011 Join me for loads of fun in my brand new class as we share our journeys with each other. Feel free to take my class button above for your blog. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I am always only an email away.
