Dawson has been in more theatre productions than I can name and I majored in vocal music and minored in drama. He may become a producer or go into politics or acting, directing... who knows? He will be grabbing a cup of coffee from "Re:defined" in Grapevine on his way up though! Mr. Holder just graduated from Grapevine Faith High school in between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. He was looking at some swanky schools and settled on Texas Christian University. I bet his family is grateful he'll be close by and that he received so much scholarship from the TCU Horned Frogs! He enjoys theatre, singing, writing, debate, dancing, reading and politics. His favorite songs are Stars and the Moon by Jason Robert Brown, Evergreen by YEBBA, Still in Love by Thirdstory, and Pretty Funny by Lindsay Mendez. His mom posted a video of his performance as the beast in "Beauty and the Beast" and it was just jaw-dropping! His favorite quote is from A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley- "“But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.” Because of his interest in drama and musical theatre, we began his session on stage and in the audience seats as seen in the top photos. He wore a suit, which I always recommend for boys. He chose an olive green button down shirt and charcoal pants for the more casual photos around town. Follow me on Pinterest here: DallasPhotographer To see more photos from senior photographer Lisa McNiel, click Dallas-Photographer or follow DFW-Senior-Photographer on Facebook or Senior Pictures on Instagram. One of my favorite outfits was this maroon zippered sweater over a checkered navy shirt with jeans. We finished up his shoot at his favorite coffee shop where he likes to hang out, study, and visit with friends. PS. Everyone is a potential friend for Dawson! His mom's perspective on Dawson: Dawson has always been beyond his years. He is an avid reader, loves to sing and listen to music and has been acting since he was seven. He enjoys having conservations all day long!

Not sure when the best time to have your senior photos taken in Oregon is? This post will help you decide the perfect time!
Insta @LisaMcNielPhoto Oh my, what to say about Erika and her wonderful botanical garden and historic old town senior session... First of all, Erika is a delight; happy, encouraging, open to making new friends, confident but humble. I would happily clone her. She is on my Senior Model Team and you can see her in the Runway 7 Boutique Group Shoot in Deep Ellum, Dallas , 7 Tips on How to Take Prom Photos, Santa Paws with Your Dog, and College Shirt Shoots (coming soon). She is part of the Varsity Cross Country Team at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. You can see the polite and dedicated bunch of girls and guys out in the mornings in packs running in the wee hours of the pre-dawn. Erika's also in National Honors Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta - a mathematics honor society, and is headed to the University of Texas in Austin this Fall. For those of you not in Texas, you have to be in the top 7% of your class for admission there, so suffice to say, Erika has a big brain! All that running gives her mega stamina. In her free time, she likes to play soccer, take hikes with friends, ride bikes, and go adventuring for coffee shops both near and far. As if she has that much free time... when she's not in class, studying, volunteering or getting in her miles for Cross Country, she works for Palio Pizza in Highland Village. Erika would like to major in pre-law so that she can one day become an Immigration Attorney. Crumpled cowboy hat, shorts and boots for the win! We started Erika's session at the botanical gardens, that were partly under construction, but we moved in and around it. Then she donned this darling black and rose long romper for a city look. Erika's photos made it in to Rame' Magazine - Senior Portrait Edition, and Senior Year Magazine this year! This yellow top popped against the green in the garden. She brought a book and glasses to highlight her love of reading. I wish I had pictures of my mom and me like this. I do have some with my daughter like this at her wedding, but I love the interaction between the two of them. She has so many "looks" and this casual outfit with the Texas ball cap shows just one more side of her warm personality. Don't try to come between a girl and her Daisy covered spare jeep! Best wishes, Erika. And as they say in Pixar land... Adventure Awaits!

Can you believe it? Graduation is right around the corner! Crazy cakes that another year has flown by. We are sure all you senior mommas (and dads) are stocking up on the tissue. Whether it's your first or last... high school or college ... watching anyone you love grow up and move on is so bittersweet. And it really does happen so fast - wasn't it just yesterday that we were getting ready for our senior year?!? Funny how much you pray for an end of something only to look back and sometimes wish you could get right back in the safety of it all. So before we go down that road...back on point. Graduation. It's about to happen and with that comes things like college prep/job prep/life prep.. but also FUN stuff like PICTURE PREP! Now you're talking our love language! We scoured the inter webs for some inspiration and here are some of our top picks. We are going to start with two of our favorite collages that we found. First up, the men. This was actually pretty hard to find. (Well, in the 25 minutes we spent looking). But seriously, most of the pics we found were for the females - we didn't find near as much inspiration for guys and for that we apologize. Guys - it's ok for you to take pictures too! Creative Event Studio Next up the ladies. We big fat puffy heart these two collages. Sweet with a little sass but most importantly class!! (And now allow us to step up on the soap box for a minute. Ladies...You are 18... act your age. Quit trying to look so much older than you are. Laugh. Giggle. Be silly - it does wonders for your soul. All these pictures of young ladies looking, well, not very lady like did not make the cut. And there are so many out there! I just want to scream at the screen and say, "HAVE YOUR PARENTS SEEN THESE?!?!") Ok - stepping down. His and Hers Photography did an awesome job on these....now if only we were in Iowa! ;) And this from Pink Fly is also great! We also looked for some pics that showcased specific interests. Like horse lovers... (No original source) The sporty type... (Soccer - no source; Basketball - no original source; Baseball) (Basketball - no original source, Track, Volleyball) Make sure to make these pictures reflect you as you are. What are you into? What sets you apart? We loved this picture ... and why wouldn't you? Chucks are awesome! Brittany Strebeck Photography We are normally not big fans of glitter. Especially in the "kid art work" category. But this picture by Brandy Waters is ADORABLE! (What's not adorable is the 100s of feet pics with class years written on the bottom of DIRTY feet. Y'all - feet pics are ok... if you WASH your feet!) Pictures can also tell stories... and graduation is a road waiting to be travelled. (No source) We also like the idea of taking pictures in spaces that mean something - like your favorite building on campus. 1L Creative Or with all the books that got you there... (No source). Or, with the PEOPLE that got you there... It's such a fun time - make sure to make the most of it and all the fun it has to offer! Check out this post by Studio K for even more ideas. And make sure to check our Picture Perfect Board on Pinterest - we will be adding ideas all week!

Senior pictures definitely are not what they used to be. It has become quite obvious that Seniors are no longer interested in stuffy indoor studio sessions with cheesy backdrops and lame props and demand a real-deal outdoor on-location session. With so many great locations available in Metro Detroit and southeast Michigan, who wouldn't want to hit the streets and head outside?! I recently had the opportunity to work with Mackenzey for her senior pictures session. She is a senior at Dryden High School in Dryden, MI. She said everyone at her school was doing senior pictures sessions with barns or
