These triangular wedges (or “Wedgies”) are used for a segmented bowl making jig/sled used in wood turning. The number on the wedgies represents how many segments it will take to make a full ring. The primary color is the color of the wedgie and the secondary color is the color of the numbers. I can make any number wedgie from 3 to 360 and they are $10/each. When you order, order the number of wedgies you would like, and in the order comments box tell me which numbers you would like. The bowls made by me, are made of a mix of different types of wood: spalted beech for the rim, a solid spalted ash foot, sapelle for the main body and maple veneer for the highlights between sapelle layers. Each bowl is a unique design, no two the same. Making this product requires a lot of patience and time with precision and attention to every detail. The bowls are finished with a home made linseed oil/ beeswax blend, which is friendly to health and food products. While wooden bowls are commonly made on a lathe, this guided resource offers 28 projects for crafting beautiful bowls with the more accessible scroll saw. Each project is organized in a progressive learning format; beginning crafters can start with the most basic starter bowl and gradually work their way toward more elaborate bowls-such as laminated swag bowls; a flared lobed bowl made with varied angles; a thin, eight-segmented bowl; and an inward curving bowl. Original scroll saw patterns for other types of vessels include a vase, a ginger jar, and a candy dish. For advanced wood crafters, an appendix expands upon the earlier material and pushes wood artists to create new patterns or adapt the existing ones to create art of their very own.

This is a handmade, wood turned, segmented decorative vase. I turned this back in 2014. It is handcrafted from Cherry, Walnut, and Brownheart for some of the features. Bowl is approximately 7 inches at its widest, and 6 inches tall. If I counted correctly there are 161 segments, or individual pieces of wood. The walls are about 1/4 inch at most points. Finish is a gloss lacquer. It is a nice decor piece or could be filled with dry or artificial flowers. This is real wood and may have minor natural imperfections. Signed. I have been making wood turned crafts for about 18 years and made this on a lathe.

***FREE SHIPPING*** You are looking at a beautifully turned Wenge bowl manufactured by the 'segmented woodturning method'. This bowl is STUNNING. From the extremely dark Wenge wood, to the bright Yellow Veneer, the Yellowheard wood 'chevron' accents, and the inlay Brass shavings in the rim, you will find it difficult to find another bowl with this much character and beauty. This bowl is APPROX 4.5" tall, 6.6" diameter at the top, 7.7" maximum diameter, and 6.6" diameter at base. There are 100 segments, 1 bottom piece with 'Yellow' veneer top/bottom, and 40 Yellowheart 'chevrons' (i.e. half-diamonds) framed with Black dyed veneer that make up this piece, for a total of 141 pieces (plus wood veneer: Black and Yellow). A bowl rim inlay has been added, highlighting Brass shavings which truly sets off this bowl. This bowl contains no dyes. It has been sanded through 3000 grit. It is all natural, finished with Danish Oil, followed with abrasive paste and polishing paste. I would consider this a 'medium-sized' bowl, and certainly 'chunky/robust' to the touch. I believe you will really enjoy this bowl. If you are interested in this bowl at a different price point, please feel free to make me an offer. Thank you for considering this work.
This lightweight wooden bowl has been turned by the artist and had three strips of a contrasting wood placed across the center. A warm accent and perfect catchall. Has a slightly raised footing. Signed and dated by the artist on the bottom. less
Maple (Acer saccharum) sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Fairly easy to work with both hand and machine tools. Maple has a tendency to burn when being machined with high-speed cutters such as in a router. Turns, glues, and finishes well, though blotches can occur when staining, and a pre-conditioner, gel stain, or toner may be necessary to get an even color. Common uses include flooring (from basketball courts and dance floors to bowling alleys and residential), veneer, pulpwood, musical instruments, cutting boards, butcher blocks, workbenches, baseball bats, turned objects and specialty wood items. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a furnituremaker, you’ll be delighted with the results you get with this all natural wood veneer by Sauers and Company. Cherry is a warm pinkish to red toned wood that ages to a nice reddish brown color. It is a hardwood that is easy to work with and strong, with a satiny texture and tight uniform grain. Another common grain characteristic is slight figure or flashing. This veneer will accept stains and finishes well but is usually finished with a clear coat that preserves the warmth and beauty of the wood’s natural color. This unique size was specially cut to appeal to the wood turners who are doing segmented bowls and want color in the seams between larger pieces. You will be thrilled by the unusual patterns achieved as you turn your bowl or vessel. We have found they also make great additions to cutting boards and other craft projects.
