I'm excited to share this fun Hispanic Heritage Month activity with you! It is super fun and will get your students talking about important Hispanic Americans. You can download the activity here. Print pages 1 and 2 front to back. You'll need one for each student. Have the students fold along the solid line (see #1 below). Next, have them open the page back up & cut along the dotted lines (see #2 below). Now have the students choose a famous Hispanic American and complete the clue sentences inside the paper (see #3 below). Now provide each student with a copy of page 3 of the download. Have them glue, tape, or staple their clues to the right side of the ¿Quién soy yo? page. (See #4 below) Print pages 4 & 5 of the download front to back. Fold the page down the middle & cut down the dotted line. You will give one "Me llamo" slip to each student. They will open the slip and write the name of the famous Hispanic American they chose to describe inside (See #5 below). Have the students glue or staple their "Me llamo" slips on the inside of the last clue. They will want to attach it to the left side, without covering up the text of that last clue (see #6 below). And now you are ready to play! You can have one student come up to the front of the class and begin to open and read each clue while the class tries to guess who it is. Or you can have the students pair up & work together to try to figure out who is being described. After everyone has finished the activity, they can draw on and color the person outline to illustrate who it is they used for their ¿Quién soy yo? page. The completed products make a great Hispanic Heritage month bulletin board!

My Life As a Teacher!
It's finally spring in Manitoba! And our new composer of the season is Bach! I absolutely LOVE the composer sets from Sara Bibee at TpT. They are simple and allow me to post information and photos, but I can create my own lessons to coincide with the composer if I wish. I pinned this RAP biography video of Bach a while ago, but hadn't used it with the kids. I got them to listen to the video the other day and then we discussed what they had learned about Bach. They LOVED the biography! I then got them to do a compare and contrast of these two versions of Toccata and Fugue in D and explain which one they liked better and why. Are you finishing the year with any composer fun?

April is National Poetry Month and April 27th is Poem in Your Pocket Day. There are so many fun things to do this month and so little time! Here is an idea to get kids reading and sharing poetry: Create a Poem in Your Pocket bulletin board display with this free template. (Thank you to Ashley Hughes for this super template!) It's pretty easy.....First, have students decorate a "pocket". Staple the pocket to the bulletin board. Give them a few days or longer to find a poem that they love. Bring in a copy (they could copy it by hand) and place it in their pocket. Throughout the month classmates can read each other's chosen poem. Students could also write their own poems, too! Click here to download this free template. I hope you and your students enjoy the freebie. If you are looking for more poetry resources, I created the Poetry Unit below. It includes directions for writing 8 poems plus templates, poetry task cards and a covers for poetry journals. Students can create their own poetry journals. Or create a Class Poetry Journal. After learning all 8 types of poems, have each student choose a favorite and then put a journal together for the class. Leave in the classroom library for students to read throughout the year!
Share your school values from the moment your students enter the front door.

Today we made balloon rockets. We blew up balloons and taped them to straws. Then we ran a ribbon thought the straws and stretched the ribbon across the room. When we let the air out of the balloons, they zoomed forward along the ribbon. It was fun to make predictions and record what happened. We used Scientific Method Graphic Organizers from our tpt store to write and draw what we saw.
Hey y'all! My kiddos were learning ALL about pronouns for the last 3 weeks - regular pronouns and possessive pronouns alike. But, I wanted to make sure they understood pronouns in general. So, we made "Pronoun Flowers." Kelley from Teacher Idea Factory originally came up with the idea of Pronoun Patch flowers, but I created my own template to go ahead and get copies of each of the parts - the center, the petals, the leaves, and the stems. We called ours Pronoun Flowers and decorated our portion of the hallway with them. They turned out SO fantastic. The kiddos truly did learn a lot, too, and began to understand pronouns like pros. I had a few that struggled but once we reviewed the ideas behinds pronouns and why we use them, along with HOW we use them, they caught right on. I attribute the success of this mini-project to their success on their grammar test over pronouns! Our display in the hallway. The pronoun "them" - this kiddo got it! They struggled with the pronoun "it," but once we gave examples, they understood it! Another "it" example! I know we had the pronoun "them" up above, but my kiddos truly did struggle with "them." They wanted to include themselves, but little did they realize that it would make it "WE" or "US." Finally, they got it! Both students using them were able to provide great examples. Finally, they loved the he/she/him/her pronouns the best. It was easiest for them and they were able to get these down quickly. Overall, the activity was a success! I truly enjoyed it and I loved how bright and fun our hallway looked - we got lots of compliments on such a cute activity, so I thank Kelley for the FANTASTIC idea!! Anything specific you use to teach pronouns?

While your students may be excited about March basketball, you can run Classical Art Music Madness in the music room! If you don't have a large bulletin board, this looks great as a wall display. Introduce students to new pieces and composers at the beginning or end of every class in March. #musiccrewsecondary #musiccrewMIOSM #musiccrewadvocacy The compositions are merely suggestions and are split with Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist composers on the left and Modern on the right. Since Impressionism is considered a part of the Modern period, if you want to change the pieces, you can because the PowerPoint is editable! Just type, print, and display! This would work for elementary through high school general music, choir, orchestra, and band. Use them as a calm way to end your class with a listening activity or open your classroom up to debate why students chose one piece over another. I tried to include a diverse representation of composers, but if you have a favorite that is not on the list, swap one out in the editable version! INCLUDED: Non-editable PowerPoint (Print & Display) Editable PowerPoint Student handouts to record choices for the final 8 or 4 pieces Ideas for use Click here to check out some of my other bulletin boards!
