Coco Jacket Knitting Pattern (English) Coco Jacket is a tight fitting jacket with a beautiful weaving pattern, where the stitches alternately lean towards the right or the left, which gives the work a special firmness. The jacket is worked from top down. It will be worked flat knitting with increases around the two shoulder seams, to shape the shoulder slope. Then there will be increases for the sleeve. The front, the sleeves and the back are worked with the same needle, with different frequencies of increases, which leaves the impression of an insert sleeve and the result is a very nice tight fitting, which goes well with the curves of the body. The body is worked straight down until the waist, and then there will be increases in the side seams, to make room for the hips. The sleeves are worked straight with a three-quarter lenght. The work is finished with cuff edgings on the lower side of the jacket and sleeves as well as around the neck. At the end there will be plackets worked in double knitting, where ends of yarn are weaved in to use them as fringes on both sides. Choice of size The model is designed without ease - small ease. That means that you need to choose a size that matches your chest measurement as closely as possible. If your chest measurement is 96 cm, you should choose a size M, with a chest circumference of 98 cm. If you are in between 2 sizes, I recommend choosing the bigger size. Size XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL) Fits chest measuring 80-86 (87-92) 94-98 (99-105) 106-114 (115-124) cm Chest circumference 86 (92) 98 (105) 114 (124) cm Length (measure in the middle of back) 52 (53) 54 (55) 56 (57) cm Knitting gauge 33 stitches • 32 rows of pattern with needle 4 = 10 • 10 cm Recommended needles 3 and 4 mm (40, 80-120 cm) Suggested materials 2 strands Lana Gatto Silk Mohair in Smuksaks colours (212m/25) Silk Mohair 250 (275) 325 (400) 475 (550) g 7 pairs of hook-and-eye-clasps Choice of colours The Jacket can be made in as many or few colours as you want. The amount of yarn is specified as if it was made with one colour. That way you can divide the amount of yarn with the number of colours you choose. The model on the picture has been made from 10 different colours from Smuksak: A4260, A4256, A4259, A4261, A4933, A4183, A4182, A4253, A4937, A4923

The Clyde Jumpsuit is a great all-purpose jumpsuit with large, crescent-shaped pockets spanning the side of the jumpsuit leg. Unique, three-panel design results in vertical seams along the center front and back of each leg in addition to the inseam, allowing for limitless fit adjustments and style changes. Use this classic, building-block jumpsuit as a jumping-off point for a variety of wardrobe staples that will serve you well for years. Large pockets are the iconic feature of the Clyde. I created the side panel crescent pocket as a solution for bulky and crinkly pocket bags that are often a hallmark of inseam pockets. They are large enough to be truly functional and are just a hair wider than the side body panel for ease of use. Medium-width shoulder straps and a scooped neckline make this jumpsuit perfectly suitable to wear on its own, or over a thin top or sweater like overalls. In a soft linen, this jumpsuit feels seasonless and relaxed. In a heavier canvas or wool, it's indestructible.

The Eleanor is a decidedly feminine t-strap, wonderfully versatile paired with the rugged contrast of denim or to highlight a feminine dress. This style features a removeable insert. The foam layer can be removed/replaced for a wider fitting shoe (we suggest to glue down the leather layer). Our new method of shoemaking has a double layer stitched back seam to provide heel structure without gripping the ankle. Made with our own olive leaf tanned cow leather from the Northern Spain. These shoes are hand cut and hand dyed, so variations are usual and we believe add to the uniqueness of a handmade shoe. To see The Eleanor in other leathers, see here
A slim fit wool skirt such as the Charlotte really begs to be lined. Adding a layer of smooth and slippery fabric makes a wool skirt more comfortable to wear (especially with tights) and extends the life of the garment. Sewing a lining is fairly simple, however, there's another technique that serves the same purpose: underlining. In general, underlining is used to stabilize fabric, add weight and "heft" to a lightweight fabric, or add opacity to a transparent fabric. Using normal lining fabric, such as Bemberg, lightweight silk or even cotton batiste to underline a garment gives the same benefits of a a skirt lining, with a bit less bulk. Typically, the underlining fabric is cut to the exact size of the pattern pieces and sewn to the fashion fabric at the very edges. The pieces are then dealt with as a single layer. Since the seams edges will be visible on the inside of the garment, the raw edges are finished together, either with an overlock stitch or a Hong Kong finish. Enter the combined Hong Kong finish + underlining method. By cutting and sewing the fabric and underlining in a slightly different way, you get a beautifully finished seam and underlining all at the same time. It takes some patience and accuracy in cutting and sewing, but the results are so worth it! Ready to dive in? Let's get started! In addition to everything else you need to sew a skirt, you'll also need an accurate clear ruler, marking chalk (I LOVE this Clover roller chalker) and your rotary cutter. For this tutorial, I've made a little "mini" version of the skirt Front so the big picture is easier to see. Start with cutting out the front and back pieces in fashion fabric. Lay the pieces on your well-pressed lining fabric. Use a few pins or weights to keep the fabric from shifting around. Then, along the vertical seams only (side/ back seams), mark an additional 5/8" seam allowance. Very carefully, cut the lining fabric using the new guidelines at the side/ back seams, and cutting at the normal cut line for the horizontal edges. Here's what it looks like: Now, with right sides facing, pin the side seams of the lining and fashion fabric. Obviously, the lining fabric is wider, so they will not lie flat. Find yourself a 1/4" presser foot and carefully sew EXACTLY 1/4" from the raw edges. Turn the fabric inside out. Both right sides should now be facing out. Wiggle the lining/ fashion fabric so that the lining fabric goes exactly around the edge of the fashion fabric without creasing the fashion fabric. Carefully press. Once pressed on both edges, the fabric and underlining pieces should be even, with no bunching, pulling or creasing. Since you haven't trimmed any of the fashion fabric from the sides, you can sew the pieces as normal, with a 5/8" seam allowance. Sewing darts for the skirt needs a little special attention for underlined fabric. First off, mark the dart legs and vanishing point. Draw a line connecting the vanishing point to the middle of the dart. This is your sewing guide. Sew down this marked line (the middle of the dart), beginning your stitching a centimeter or so away from the vanishing point and sewing toward the raw edge. Fold the dart along the sew line and sew as usual. Press over a ham. Continue sewing the skirt as usual. If you've added a kick pleat, there are just a few more steps. Clip the seam allowance right above the curve and finish the rest of the pleat as described in my earlier post. For the hem, I used rayon seam binding to finish the edge and then used a blind stitch (only catching the underlining) to hem. With a beautiful finish like this, it will be hard to keep from showing it off!

When it comes to a seam that conceals all raw edges, French seam and Hong Kong seam finish seem to be first that come to people’s mind. But I think the flat felled seam deserves equal accolade. Flat felled seam is, well, flat. Unlike French seam and Hong Kong seam, there is nothing that sticks […]

D30-5156PR; 1933 Katharine Hepburn Ensemble (Multi-size) 11-piece pattern originally by Butterick is a very scarce pattern for Howard Greer's design for a costume as worn by Miss Hepburn in an R.K.O. Radio Picture', being her first starring role in 'Christopher Strong'. The ensemble consists of the pleated hat, one-piece dress and jacket with long or short cut-away sleeves and attached scarf that laps over the front to close the jacket with buttons. 3/4" seams are given at underarm (all side) seams and 3/8" seams are given on all other edges. The center back seam of the jacket lay on true bias, so plaid or striped fabrics show off the chevron effect! The seam joining the bodice and skirt of the dress is shaped at the built-up waistline to follow the line of the jacket's lower edge for uninterrupted flattering lines. I would consider the jacket an advanced sewing level, as a gusset is sewn into the underarm. I have provided additionally illustrated instructions for this. Read about my jacket project in black wool tweed in Threads Magazine Gallery here. Access the article I wrote for Threads Magazine, June/July issue 'Working with Vintage Patterns' highlighting this pattern. It all started with a sweater (if you are curious, you can see it in this video). I knit it in fisherman’s rib, and when it was time to seam the sides and the sleeves, I wanted the seam to be invisible, flat, stretchy and preferably reversible (in case I decide to wear the sweater inside […]
Long before rotary cutters, this was an ingenious way for sewists to quickly cut bias strips with the perfect measurement for use with their Singer Binder Attachment. Simply insert the scissors in Bias Cutting Gauge slot, adjust the gauge to the measurement desired, insert the fabric in the gauge and cut. The fabric would remain in the gauge allowing you to cut a straight line, whether it be for facing, bias, etc. This particular accessory is a vintage Singer original. The ones marked with F, B & C on the gauge were for Singer Attachment sets, whereas the ones with lined measurements were more generic and commonly found amongst Greist Attachment sets. Their function is identical. Using the cut raw fabric strips, you then insert them into the Singer Binder Attachment, which will produce the same effect as sewing double-fold 1/4-inch pre-folded bias tape. Perfect for single-layer fabric articles such as placemats, aprons, bibs, or enclosing other raw seam allowances. (Not to be used for quilt binding.) This accessory is a must-have for Singer Attachment collectors and quite useful if you need bias tape in a pinch, and don't have access to a rotary cutter. A note from the designer. "Elevated comfort" is how I describe this style. I love this pant because it is a classic and flattering staple that can be dressed up or down. Easy to wear it in the studio with a simple top and throw a blazer over if you popping out and want to look a bit more put together. They are the type of pant that look great and feel equally as great (the ones you don't immediately change out of as soon as you are home). Seam lines down the back pant legs give shape and add a flattering elongated illusion. The pleated front waist lays flat, while the elastic waistband at the back provides flexibility for tummy fluctuations during the day. A side zipper allows for extra flexibility getting dressed. Two large inseam pockets are located on the front sides. Xx, Jo Click here for more size info on this garment.

Cyrene is a beautifully fitted, tailored jacket. The collar can be worn turned up or laying flat in a more traditional way and the lapels are created within the front and stand out by using distinctive stitch pattern. This creates a certain panache which is further enhanced by being knitted without side seams. This makes it a structurally interesting original which will delight knitters as there is so little to sew up.Knitted in Purl Alpaca Designs 100% pure alpaca Medium yarnSkill level: IntermediateX-Small: UK sizes 4-6, to fit approx 73cm/29″ bust (11 balls of yarn)Small: UK sizes 8-10, to fit approx 83cm/33″ bust (13 balls of yarn)Medium: UK sizes 12-14, to fit approx 93cm/37″ bust (14 balls of yarn)Large: UK sizes 16-18, to fit approx 102cm/40″ bust (15 balls of yarn)X-Large: UK sizes 20-22, to fit approx 112cm/44″ bust (16 balls of yarn)Knitted on 4, 4.5 and 5mm straight needles (although circular needles are recommended due to the number of stitches).

Designed by Howard Greer for Katharine Hepburn in her first leading role (as Cynthia Darrington, Christopher Strong), this Dress, jacket (with long or short sleeves) and hat ensemble was made available in pattern form by the Butterick Pattern Company as part of their 'Starred' series! In 2007, I created this multi-size pattern from the size 16 (34" bust) original vintage pattern (available here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/758438920/1933-katharine-hepburn-ensemble-single?ref=listings_manager_grid) for size set A, fitting 30" to 34" bust, 25" to 28" waist, 33" to 37" hip, size set B, fitting 36" to 40" bust, 30" to 34" waist and 39" to 43" hip or size set C fits 42" to 46" bust, 36" to 40" waist, 47" to 49" hip. See my shop listings for the jacket available separately (per this link:) https://www.etsy.com/listing/248841718/1933-katharine-hepburn-jacket-evadress?ref=shop_home_active_30 I wrote for Threads Magazine based on this pattern.
