DORO-E Photographic Print #6 | Aaron Scythe Inspired by his Maori heritage and the sixteen years he spent living in Japan, Aaron Scythe adorns his one-of-a-kind pieces in his studio in Whanganui with text, imagery, and symbolism. Aaron's work is printed on Hahnemuhle photo rag metallic archival paper. He first paints on a large clay slab using slips (slip is a thick watery clay) mixed with different-coloured pigments. Aaron then photographs the incredible works to create these prints. The painting process Aaron uses is one of repetition and layering. He paints a Japanese character in slip on the slab, takes a photo, then paints another Japanese character and takes another photo. Aaron keeps repeating this and building up layers of slips and Japanese characters, taking photos of each new layer or close-ups of layers. Then he composes the image on his computer, taking the artwork from a practical hands-on process to a digital one. In most of the paintings, Aaron can read the characters above and underneath. If you would like more information on these paintings, Aaron can tell you the story behind each character. Although they do have a meaning, they are abstract paintings. Presented behind beautiful high-quality art glass with anti-reflection, 70% UV protection and an easy-to-clean surface. Dimensions: Width - 545mm x Height - 725mm

'I've used a number of different scythes over the years - most were borrowed and used mainly to cut vegetation in places where I couldn't maneuver the tractor and mower. Some of those scythes were heavy and clunky, but worked nicely at whacking back brush. Others were light and almost flimsy - those worked well for mowing grass. What I hadn't realized is that every one of those scythes were fit to snaths (handles) that were too short for me and in many cases not adjusted properly. My very first custom-fit scythe arrived in the mail last week and has so-changed
