Exploding Box Class - "An Exploding Year" - by Anso Please feel free to use these instructions to make your own boxes. You are free to link to this page from any forum etc if you wish. Please do NOT copy this information and/or photos to use for your own classes/forums/webpages without permission. Please also note that I'm not claiming that I have invented the exploding box, but these simple step-by-step instructions and photos are mine. Class Supply list: For the box you will need: * 3x 12x12 sheets of cardstock For the lid you will need: * 1x 12x12 sheet of cardstock (though this can be A4 also, you only need a 6 ¼”x6 ¼” piece) Tools: * trimmer * scissors * scoring tool, like a bone folder etc, or the scoring blade if you have a Zision trimmer or similar * glue (I would recommend double-sided tape PLUS a wet glue like Glossy Accents, Diamond Glaze etc) * 4 paperclips (to hold card in place while drying) – optional * corner rounder – optional * inkpad for edges of card - optional I would recommend that your four sheets are either exactly the same colour, or different shades of the same colour. Of course, if you want more of a rainbow effect (!) you could use four sheets of totally different colours. I have used two different shades of green Bazzill. The class with mainly focus on how to make the exploding box itself. However I will also supply some photos of my finished box. If you wish to continue after the class and decorate your box you will need: about 5-6 sheets of co-ordinating patterned paper (assuming you want to cover the “pages”) up to 26 small photos (assuming: one on each “flap”(front and back), one in the middle of the box and one on the top of the lid) ribbon to go around the lid (optional) any other embellishments etc that you want to use. The class is called “An Exploding Year” because my box will feature “random” photos from the past year…so it’s kind of like a summary of a “year in a box”. First of all – please don’t be put off by how long the instructions are. It’s only because I have made them VERY simple and step-by-step with lots of pictures. Making the box and lid (not decorated) only took me 30 minutes. And then I had to stop all the time to take photos of the different stages. Normally I work in metric, but for making this box it’s actually easier to make it using inches…so that’s what we’ll do. Ready? 1. First we’ll do the box itself. Take your three sheets of cardstock and cut them as follows: • one sheet to 9 x 9 inches • one sheet to 8 5/8 x 8 5/8 inches • one sheet to 8 ¼ x 8 ¼ inches 2. Now score each sheet according to the measurements below. You score on all four sides (see photo below). • score the 9 x 9 sheet, 3 inches in from each side • score the 8 5/8 x 8 5/8 sheet, 2 7/8 inches in from each side • score the 8 ¼ x 8 ¼ sheet, 2 ¾ inches in from each side 3. Following your scored lines, cut off all four corners on all three pieces. 4. At this point (and this is optional) you might want to ink the edges (don’t forget to do both sides!) and/or round the corners. 5. Now you need to glue together your pieces. It’s easiest if you start by putting the smallest piece on to the middle piece and then the medium (+smallest) piece onto the largest one. I would suggest you use double-sided tape for this. You ONLY put your tape/glue on the MIDDLE square. Like this: …and don’t forget you do NOT need glue on the back of your largest piece. Once you have put them together, you should end up with something looking like this: 6. Fold up the edges of your scored lines. 7. Now you can put the box to one side. It’s finished for you to continue decorating now or later. Onto the box lid: 8. Take your piece of cardstock for the lid and cut it to: 6 ¼ x 6 ¼ inches 9. Now score the lid, 1 ½ inch in from each of the four edges. 10. Right, this might be a bit tricky to explain in words, but the photo below should help you. TURN YOUR CARD OVER and you need to score from the tip of each corner, diagonally, until you meet your scored “corner” lines. See photos: 11. Fold all your scorelines and pinch the corners and fold them inwards. See photo: 12. Glue the corners in place. I found that double-sided tape was NOT strong enough for this (it holds for a little while and then lets go) so I would recommend a wet glue, something like Glossy Accents or Diamond Glaze for this. You can either hold the corners for a little minute until the glue is dry enough to hold the corners in place, or you can use some paperclips to hold the corners in place while drying. ...your lid should now be finished and look like this: And your finished complete box should look something like this: If you want to continue decorating your box, I would recommend the following measures for your paper (I’m swapping to metric now since it’s easier to be more exact): • one 7,5x7,5 centimetre square for the top of the lid • one 6,5x6,5 centimetre square for the centre inside your box • eight 7x7cm squares for your largest “pages” • eight 6,7x6,7cm squares for your medium “pages” • eight 6,5x6,5 cm squares for your smallest “pages” Round your corners and/or chalk your edges if wanted. I have used Chatterbox papers for mine and this is what my box looks like decorated: I have used small photos in mine. I used 20 photos in my box. One on each page (not on the lid, centre square, or the four sides that makes up the outside of the box) and I printed my photos: 8 photos to a 15x10cm photo (6x4 inches). Very easy if you have an Epson PictureMate. Each little photo measures: 5x4 cm. And here is my finished box: I hope you have enjoyed my class and thank you so much for taking it! Anso

Admit it. We all have that box of photos gathering dust in the basement somewhere. We had every intention of putting together a precious book of memories with those photos (and the scrapbooking supplies we spent so much money on), but then life happened and the scrapbook didn’t. Or maybe you have a growing pile of macaroni necklaces and watercolor family portraits that you just don’t know what to do with. I’m guilty of both of these, but I’ve finally found a few methods that have saved me a ton of time and helped to alleviate the stress of saving...

Gebruikte materialen: o.a. Pale Pastels papier van Eline's Winter Huis, cardstock, Tim Holtz Alternations stans Sewing Room en pootjes, Maya Road liniaal stempel, Marianne Design Creatables schaar, takken lang en kort, Magnolia Doohickeys stans bladeren en bloemen, Crealies randpons, MFT Die-namics rozenstans, Eline's clearstamps, Joy craft slinger stans, Cheery Lynn French Pastry stans, Kaisercraft mini clear stamp tekst, Viva gel-pen transparant, Inkadinkado horloge stempel, Crafty Secrets claer art stamps Material Girl, Creative Cafe tekst stempels, klosjes, touw etc.

Pastel Shades Today I reopened my Etsy shop and decided to sell some of my inchies. I enjoy the process of making inchies. I enjoy seeing a set come together and find new ways and new ideas to embellish them with each set I create unique. Pink & Red There are so many ways to use inchies, in bigger pieces of art, embellishing journals, bags, purses, iphone and ipad cases, jewellery making, quilts.......these are just a few, I'm sure there are many more. I'm selling them unframed to keep costs down and allow you the choice of how to use them. I will however be sending them out mounted on card, ready to be framed. The set of 16 fits nicely into a square frame available from IKEA. I have shown pictures of each set on the listings in the black and the white frames. These two sets are now up for sale and I'm hoping to get more up for sale soon. ******* Update : Pastel inchies set now SOLD but photographic prints are now available of my inchie sets in my ETSY shop. ******

Back today with another one of my favorite CHA projects. This one is a bit of fantasy after last weeks more personal piece. The shadowbox is made with a 5.75 x 5.75" Configurations box with all but one of the small inner boxes removed. The little girl is part of the Found Relatives pack. Although, I did add vintage tatted lace across the front of her dress. As I said in a previous post about Found relatives, I like to make up stories about the people. Her story is that she wandered into a conservatory where specimens of exotic plants and other oddities are kept...hence the corked domes and low slung branch. A little Alice in Wonderland meets Downton Abby I think. The box was painted with Iced Spruce and set aside to dry. I cut manila cardstock using the new Frameworks die - Courtyard. Then colored the cardstock using Distress Stains Frayed Burlap, Iced Spruce and Tattered Rose. I added a little Brushed Corduroy around the edges of the Frameworks with my Blending Tool. Then added the Frameworks to the sides of the box with Muti-medium, including a layer over the top of the Frameworks to seal it. Once dry, I used my fingers to add more Iced spruce and Walnut Stain Distress Paint over the top. Wallflower paper from the 8 x 8 mini stash and Tissue Tape were added into the inside of the box with Multi-medium...with more paint over the top. I love how the paper really looks like miniaturized chinoiserie wallpaper! While that part was drying I worked on the Foundations feet using Iced Spruce Distress paint and Alcohol Ink in Pebble, as well as Mushroom. For the Corked Domes, I added a butterfly from the Remnant Rubs Sheet to one and a metal flower stock to the other. I painted the flower stock with Adirondack Dabber paint in Aqua and Citrus. A Clock Key was added to the top as well as a Word Band on the front. More remnant rubs were added, as well as a stick from my neighbors tree, a vintage picture frame and vintage pearls. I think the vintage picture frame really makes the piece. Something I bought in a junk shop but not cheap by any means...think I paid $12-15 dollars for it since the case is leather and it did come with an old tintype. I just removed the tintype and added a bit of map paper. I also stamped the front edge with the Distress Damask stamp and Watering Can Archival Ink. Loving this combination. Well, that's it for today...hope this shadowbox inspires some great creations this week! Now carry on! paula InLinkz.com
I was happy to include the last notebook together with his parents, grandparents and more. The family grows. I used to keep then inside a fireproof and waterproof box since they are treasures. I always remember the fire in Peter Beard's house and the lost of many years of notebooks. Tragedy. However while trying to protect my notebooks I was putting them into a high risk. I know now these kind of fireproof boxes are not recommendable for humidity reasons. Indeed, I did some tests tracking the moisture inside and... surprise! The humidity increases even when it's empty and filled with room air (to discard the possibility of humidity caused by the items). It comes from the wall box, materials which contain water or something similar. Fortunately I keep a silica gel bag inside and the damage was not so bad, I hope. It looks like keeping the notebooks safe from fire will have to wait until I discover a solution.

"SEW (long ago)" An altered book containing a collection of vintage sewing notions. The following photos of altered pages end with an explanation of the book and what is on each page. Inside back of book cover contains notions and salesmen samples of buttons. Needles and Snaps. Zipper, Sewing Machine ad, and Baby Buttons. Thread, Measuring Tape, and Advertising. Buttons, Hooks, Eyes, Cross-Stitch. Buttons, Snaps, and Binding. Fabric Swatches, labeled. Quilting, Thread, Buttons, and Needles. Buttons, Needles, and Measuring Tape. Men's Shirt Buttons and Patterns. Vintage Assorted Needle Packet and Advertising. Inside Front Cover has Salesmen Sample Card of Buttons. The great majority of these vintage sewing notions, buttons, and various advertising samples belonged to my maternal grandmother and were passed down to me. A few I have added over the years when I found them in antiques stores and couldn't resist including them in my collection. Back in the day, advertising graphics were (at least to me) miniature works of art. Their colorful illustrations really caught the eye, which is why I believe many of them have survived. They were just too pretty to toss out. This altered book is about 11" x 8" and considering all the 3-D items I have included in it, unable to close completely. Nevertheless, I like having this sewing collection from long ago all in one place and not simply loose in a sewing basket, as it was before. The cover was my favorite part to create - it almost always turns out that way. I saved the best for the cover and it includes an old pair of embroidery scissors, an antique bobbin with thread, a needle threader, tape measure, two cards of vintage buttons, very old snaps still attached to binding, thread, ribbon, cross-stitch, and several pieces of old lace and rick-rack. Small and not seen very well is a ribbon bookmark with a thread card and a miniature silver thimble hanging from it. The book also has tabs on each page - these are marked with the various sewing vocabulary. *Click on any of the photos once or twice to enlarge and see them better.

A month ago I had some local crafty pals over to create Memory Explosion Boxes! We all got negative covid tests the day before so we were safe to be in each other's presence :) My friend Karen's daughter calls it a "BAM BOX" or a "BOOM BOX" which is just too cute! We began by selecting a size and style of Memory Explosion Box to decorate: Andrea and Mary chose the Large White Memory Explosion Box, Karen chose the Small White Memory Explosion Box, Rosie chose the Small Kraft Memory Explosion Box, and I chose the Large Kraft Memory Explosion Box. Then we covered each and every side, flap, pocket, and all the various lids with patterned papers from the 12x12" Paper Pad, Sprinkle 12x12" Paper Pad, 6x6" Paper Pad, Double Sided 6x6" Paper Pad, Foil 6x6" Paper Pad, and Glitter 6x6" Paper Pad. A few people also brought some papers from home to incorporate which looked awesome. Once we all had everything covered, it was time for lunch! We ordered Cafe Rio - soooooo good. Crumbl cookies for dessert! Back to the craft room - time to add photos and embellishments. We all loved looking at each other's progress and getting inspiration and bouncing off ideas. Not to mention, the conversations! Oh my goodness it was soooo good for the soul to have some girl time! At about 4pm we cleaned up and then we raided my basement for free craft supplies :) Ta-da!! Look how cute! Mine is the undecorated lid lol. Mary is giving her box to her mom, Karen documented a fun trip to Lake Tahoe, and Andrea gave hers to her daughter for her birthday. Not shown is Rosie's who is giving hers to her friend and it's filled with inspirational quotes. BAM! Memory Explosion Boxes galore! We had a total "blast" making boxes using my Memory Explosion Box supplies found in stores and online exclusively at Michaels! Here are the clickable product links to all of the Memory Explosion Box supplies: Have you made a Memory Explosion Box yet? Be sure to send me photos so I can share them in an upcoming blog post!
