Join me for today's Folio Flip Album Tutorial where I share how I created this cute Folio with Recollections card stock and Colorbox paper.
Good morning, Crafters! I have a sweet, summertime tutorial for you today! If you are trapped inside with the air conditioning roaring, then it's the perfect time to whip up this little cutie! My monthly mini showcases the Authentique Summertime Collection! This is the perfect collection for these hot, humid, end-of-summer days! This summer collection comes with six different sheets and 12 patterns, However, the collection has TWO sheets of cut-aparts, Summertime Five and Summertime Six. If you purchase the paper pad, you get four of each pattern. That is plenty of paper to make this mini album! This mini is 5" tall and 3 1/2" wide (similar to the Meadow Mini Album, shared HERE). There are three pages, with lots of fold-outs and flaps, plus TWO waterfall sections! Let's get started on the tutorial. Cut two pieces of medium weight chipboard to 5" x 3 1/2". Cut one piece of chipboard to 5" x 1". Trim dark blue cardstock to 7" x 10 1/4" and attach the chipboard pieces to the cardstock as shown above. Make sure to maintain a 1/8" gap between the spine piece and the cover pieces of chipboard. Trim the cardstock corners at an angle and attach double-sided adhesive to the tabs. Wrap the chipboard as shown. Gently fold the covers while scoring in the 1/8" gutter (or channel) between the spine and the covers. Trim decorative paper to fit over the center spine section. Do this BEFORE adding your hinge mechanism. DO NOT add paper to your inside covers until AFTER you add your hinge mechanism. Create a hinge mechanism from dark blue cardstock. Cut the cardstock to 4 1/4" x 4 1/2". (The 4 1/4" measurement is the height of the hinge.) Score on the longer side at: 1", 1 1/8", 1 3/8", 1 5/8", 2", 2 1/4", 2 1/2", 2 7/8", 3 1/8", 3 3/8", 3 1/2". This will make three hinges that are 1/4" all with a 3/8" space between hinges. Attach the hinge to the spine of the book. Line up the scored 1/8" "gutters" on your hinge to the gutters on your album. Gently burnish and fold all your score lines. Trim decorative paper to add to the inside of your covers. Trim three pieces of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and add one piece to each hinge. Glue these "base pages" to the left side of each hinge. (Don't worry. Your decorative papers will cover the other side of the hinge.) Create a waterfall section for the front cover. Trim the dark blue cardstock to 4" x 3 1/8". Score each piece at 1/4" from the top edge. Use a corner rounder to round the bottom edges. Cut four waterfall pages. Attach the first to the top edge of the dotted paper by the 1/4" tab. Add each waterfall page just under the previous page. Add magnets to keep the waterfall closed. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the right edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the first base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the right edge of the first base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the left flap, then the right flap to finish the first base page. Turn the page and work on the BACK of the first base page. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 5/8" x 3 1/8" and score on the bottom at 1/4" from the edge. Round the top corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the bottom edge of the BACK of the first base page. Add a pocket to the bottom of the second base page. Cut dark blue cardstock to 2 3/4" x 3 7/8" and score on three sides at 1/4" from the edges. Fold on the score lines and attach the pocket to the page as shown. Flip the second base page over and work on the BACK. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 5 1/2" and score on the long side at 2" and 5 1/4" from the left edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the second base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the right edge of the second base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the right flap, then the accordion fold the left flap to finish the second base page Add a pocket to the bottom of the THIRD base page. Cut dark blue cardstock to 2 3/4" x 3 7/8" and score on three sides at 1/4" from the edges. Fold on the score lines and attach the pocket to the page as shown. Flop the page and work on the BACK of the last page. Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the right edge. Round the left-hand corners. Attach the 1/4" tab to the left edge of the third base page. Cut a second piece of dark blue cardstock to 4 7/8" x 3 3/8" and score on the long side at 1/4" from the left edge. Round the right-hand corners. Attach the flap to the right edge of the first base page. Add magnets as desired. Close the left flap to finish the last base page. Create a waterfall section for the inside back cover. Trim the dark blue cardstock to 4" x 3 1/8". Score each piece at 1/4" from the top edge. Use a corner rounder to round the bottom edges. Cut four waterfall pages. Attach the first to the top edge of the dotted paper by the 1/4" tab. Add each waterfall page just under the previous. Add magnets to keep the waterfall closed. Now your mini book is ready to decorate! I trimmed a piece of white, adhesive-back canvas to cover the spine of my book. Then, I added the yellow and white dotted paper to the front and back covers. I kept the cover simple by adding a word grid sticker and a bit of pretty ribbon. (The sticker is VERY OLD and I have no idea where it's from!) I double-matted the sticker and added it to a bit of scrap chipboard before gluing it to the cover. I found the cute crab button in my stash and thought he would like to end his days decorating the bow! I used a banner die to cut out the spine decor. I used a Tim Holtz brad to dangle some charms from the spine. (I have a bin of charms and a bin of beads, most of which have been with me since the early 1990's! I add to them from time to time, so I really don't remember where these particular items came from!) I added the fun Summertime papers to the inside sections of my book, and then just added a few stickers and other bits and bobs to decorate each page. The Summertime cut-aparts are the perfect size for my pages... and to fit into the pockets! I have no idea how long I've had some of these stickers! I almost never reach for stickers, but I am happy I still had these in my stash as they worked perfectly for this little book! I found clear stickers, and 3-D sticker, and word art...just a treasure trove! With TWO waterfall features, there is a lot of space for photos and journaling! If you want to see each page, watch my little walk-through video below! I hope you are inspired to beat the heat and make a little end-of-summer mini! Thanks for joining me today! I've got a fun, easy project for you today, making mini tassels from embroidery floss! These little guys are so cute and versatile, you can use them to decorate pillows or bags, make necklaces or keychains, or tie them onto your sewing scissors (or anywhere else!) They are quick and easy, you'll want to make some in every color of the rainbow. All you need: 1 skein of embroidery floss (makes 2 tassels) Scissors Needle Leave the paper wrappings in place on your skein. First pull out and cut four 6-inch pieces of floss. Gather and separate the threads on one end of the skein into a loop. Thread one 6-inch piece of floss through the loop and double knot it tightly. Tie a second piece of floss piece around the entire skein near the top, below first knot. Wrap the ends around 2 or 3 times and then double knot it to secure. Cut the skein in half crosswise to create one tassel. (Use the same wrapping and knotting process to make a tassel with the other end of the skein.) You'll have a stray strand of floss pointing upwards from your knot at the back, just thread it onto a needle and pull it back under the wrapped floss. Trim the ends of the tassel off evenly. Use the floss strand at the top to stitch or tie your tassel wherever you wish! If you prefer a fatter tassel, fold your skein in half and gather both ends together before tying you're knots, then cut the skein in half at the middle. Enjoy! What will you do with your tassels?? Let me know in the comments! xo Aimee

Learn a quick and easy lettering style that doesn't take much time, skill, or any fancy pens, with a step by step tutorial.
Good Afternoon... Busy yesterday. Spent the day at appointments. I did get time last night to make a couple more projects. So today is a corner bookmark, tomorrow is a fancy fold card and next week an Advent Calendar. Told you I was busy! The bookmark - Pattern paper on the first one is Basic Grey - Jovial and on the second one discontinued Stampin' Up. Stamp set from Just-Rite Stamps - Whimsical Christmas . Tutorial for Corner Bookmark Start with a square piece of cardstock or double sided paper. I used 5 x 5 but as long as it's square it will work. Score at 2 1/2" both directions (or in half each way). Cut out one of the squares. Opposite the corner you cut away cut that square on the diagonal. This is where you could also use fancy edged scissors or a border punch. Look closely on the second bookmark and you'll see the border. Fold it up. While it is folded just cut a little bit off of the tip. This is where you will place the ribbon if you want a tab to pull on. Place the ribbon between the two full squares and then glue both of those squares together. Decorate the front as you like. This is one time you'll want to not add a lot of dimension as it is going between pages in your book. This would be cute to add if you're giving a book as a gift. Also useful for your recipe books. We can bookmark our favorite pages in our craft magazines. Tell me what you think. I love your comments.Remember unless you leave an address or a link to your blog I can respond back to you. Have a great Hump Day...it is Wednesday you know! Yvonne
One of the great features of Silhouette Studio Designer Edition is the ability to import SVG files. A SVG file, short for scalable vector graphic, can be resized large or small without losing quality. I love SVG files because they can be used with almost every cutting software. Many designers (including me) will often give away free SVG files. … Read more...
How to Transfer Images onto Paper by Rebecca Parsons. Such a great Mixed Media technique, perfect to use in Art Journals or Junk Journals!
SPRINGY THINGY CARD TUTORIAL It's time for me to share my weekly Tuesday tip or technique. This tutorial fell out of my tips/techniques book as I moved it last night and so got chosen for today's effort. It makes a card front that the receiver pulls open and the card opens out like a spring to see an inner 20cm square area. Images of a completed card using this technique are below these instructions. Practice this on some scrap paper first. MATERIALS 20cm square piece of card stock or decorative paper of your choice. Pre colour the card if you wish. I'll use white card stock so you can clearly see what to do. Pencil, rubber, ruler, craft knife, craft mat and bone scorer. HOW TOO 1) On all sides measure and make a light pencil dot at the 5cm, 10cm and 15cm mark. On my sample I will use a black marker so you can see what I did easily. 2) From the 5cm mark at the left and right side measure and mark a dot at the 10cm mark 3) From the 10cm mark at the left and right side measure in and mark a dot in at the 5cm mark from each side 4) From the 15cm mark at the left and right side measure and mark a dot at the 10cm mark. These dots make a large diamond. 5) Score between all these dots. In my image I have drawn dashes to show you were to score 6) At the top 15cm mark score down to the right side of the diamond. At the 15cm mark at right edge, score across to the bottom of the diamond. At the 5cm mark on the bottom edge, score up to the left side of the diamond. Lastly at the 5cm mark at the left edge, score across to the top of the diamond. See dashed marks I have marked for you on my sample. All these score lines will be mountain folds. That is you bend the scored line back on itself to make a mountain. 7) At the 10cm mark on all sides score into the points on the diamond. See dashed areas on my sample. These scored lines and the scored lines for the diamond are all valley folds. That is you bend the scored line in on itself to make a little valley. Here is my sample with all the scored lines bent to their respective mountain and valley folds. 8) Now all you do is gently fold the card in on itself. Start on one side and then work your way around. If you have all the scored correct lines and folds it sort of winds in like a spring. It should look like this at the front and this at the back. Rub off all marked pencil dots. After I made my sample above for you I painted the card stock with white gesso, sprayed it with various sprays. Stamped and added embellishments to turn it into a steam punk card. I then layered and stuck it to a base card. As mine is fairly embellished it doesn't fold completely flat. This is m Springy Thingy Card open Some close ups of the folded card part. Hugs Annette In Oz
