Here it is - the 23rd challenge for the Compendium of Curiosities III - the Collection Folio found on Page 34 of Tim's third book! I will confess I was a bit nervous about taking on this challenge on as it looked like quite the task! However, it has turned out to be one of the most rewarding challenges I have done! I decided I would use my maternal grandmother, Eunice Blanch Wood, as my inspiration as she was truly one of the strongest people I have ever known. She was also kind, loving, faithful and patient, attributes that I will always remember. I was also blessed to be the granddaughter she wanted to have her photos, so I have lots of wonderful photos to work with. It was hard to fit them all in! Here is the cover of the folio: I originally resisted using Tim's Wallflower Stash as I use it quite frequently, however, it is truly my all-time favorite paper and I couldn't bear not to use it for this project! Don't ever discontinue it, Tim! I removed the elastic closure and covered the entire folio with the paper with the exception of a few of the "fold-over" areas. I then cut out my favorite picture of my grandmother with an oval die and oval scalloped die and mounted it on green and brown card stock. I used Tim's Alterations Typeset die to cut the letters for her name. After this was done, I reattached the elastic closure through the designated holes, adding a Word Band to the top before threading it through the last hole. Now it's time for another confession! I tend to generally "play it safe" with colors and textures. However, I finally decided I needed to step out of my comfort zone and go crazy! I did this with the inside piece of the folio that the photos and ephemera are attached to. Here is what it looked like when I started: I used Tim's Frameworks Trellis Die as well as the Latticework stencil along with Peeled Paint, Antique Linen, Forest Moss and Gathered Twigs Paint. The fun then began! I have to admit that it took me two full days to put this together, however, I wanted it to be extra special. I also had lots of photos I wanted to incorporate. You certainly don't have to put as much as I did into this project - just select a theme you like and go for it! For the inside cover of the folio I used one of Tim's Mini Cabinet Cards and placed my grandmothers baby's picture in it! I always laugh when I see it as she looks so startled. I used this photo for the first challenge and turned the photo into a birthday card. I die cut a banner from Tim's Sizzix Alterations Tattered Banners strip and hand wrote her birthdate. To finish this cover I added two photos of the farm where she was born in Alva, Oklahoma. On the right side I sandwiched two new Elementary Flashcards, one that said "family" and the other "story" over the first cascading flap. These Flashcards have such wonderful words on them! Love them! On the right hand side of the second cascading flap I attached two photos of my grandmother's family. I used an Industrious Frame from the new Gallery set to frame her parents' wedding picture. Some photo corners from the same set were used in all four corners of the family photo. I used the Alpha Parts: Newsprint letters to spell out the word "Family" at the top of the photo. For the back of the second cascading flap I added two more photos which I adhered to not only the flap, but also the reverse side of the photos on the opposite side. I used the Life Quotes Remnant Rubs to add some words. The right side of the third flap features my Great-Grandmother Mamie. I used a library pocket I had in my stash. I laid it on its side and covered part of it with paper from the Wallflower Stash. After placing the photo on a brown mat, I adhered it over the paper and added some Alpha Tiles to spell out her name. I tucked in a tag I colored with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Inks and stamped with a B-Line Designs Gorgeous Fabric background. I added another Elementary Flash Card and then a Remnant Rub from the Botanical set to the card. I finished the front of the flap die by cutting and adding a Tim Alterations Distressed Doily die cut and fussy cutting a rose image from the Wallflower Stash paper (one of my favorite things to do). The last touch was the addition of an ephemera piece from the Emporium Ephemera Pack. Close up of the tag: I used the reverse side of the third flap for one photo plus another Flash Card and some fussy cut images from the Wallflower Stash paper to create a nature collage. I also stamped the tag on the reverse side with a stamp from Wendy Vecchi's The Beauty of Art stamp set. Here's a close up of the reverse side of the tag: On the right side of the fourth flap I used two large #10 tags. I adhered a reduced size copy of my grandmother's graduation certificate to the top tag. I used two B Line Designs stamps for the bottom tag, Women are like Buttons and Button Collage that I stamped lightly with Antique Linen Distress Ink. Another photo was placed on this tag along with a Life Quotes Remnant Rub, Stencil Mark and Chit-Chat sticker. Both tags were finished with a strip from the Industrious Gallery Stickers, two bows made from Crinkled Ribbon, a Ring Fastener and a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic key. Another Flash Card with an image from the Botanical Remnant Rubs can be found in the center of the flap. The left side of the fourth flap features two #8 tags to which have been added Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress inks and adhered to the larger #10 tags on the opposite side. I decorated the tags with another photo, my grandmother's wedding announcement, a flower from the new Emporium Ephemera pack, two bows made from burgundy seam binding that was crinkled, an photo is an oval frame from the Industrious Gallery Stickers with a photo, a Flash Card with a Botanical Remnant Rub and a metal key (sorry - not sure where this is from) and a floral stem from Nature Adornments. The left side of the fifth flap was adorned with photos of my mother and uncle in Industrious Gallery Frames and finished with words from Chit-Chat stickers. The back of the library pocket on the opposite side was decorated with another photo and Label Letters spelling my mother's name. I also attached a gingham ribbon bow by Creative Impressions to the tag front. Here's a close up of the tag front: Finally the back of the tag was stamped with a border from Wendy Vecchi's The Beauty of Art set and a stamp from Wendy's new Art and You set. Close up of the reverse side of the tag: Finally, the last flap was adhered to the back of the folio and a large photo of my grandparents on their honeymoon was placed on top. A later photo of my grandmother was adhered to the top inside flap and a photo with me in it was adhered to the inside bottom flap and a fussy cut image from the Paper Stash was glued over the photo and onto the paper. I had to move from my small studio to the dining room table to spread everything out for this project. Here is what it looked like (I'm embarrassed to say): I would bet that many of you can confess to the same thing! Am I right? Wow, that was a much longer post than I had intended, however, there are so many details I wanted to share with you. Now it's your turn to create something beautiful with this wonderful Collection Folio and share it with us. As usual, head on over to the lovely Linda Ledbetter's site, read the rules for the challenge and start creating! For this 23rd Challenge, Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring a shopping spree in the amount of $50.00 for one randomly chosen winner. Tim and Mario have a fabulous prize package for the winner of the Curiosity Crew Choice. Good luck to everyone and have fun! Susan
Remember when I wrote "Dear New Photographer..." a few months ago? One of the big points I emphasized was valuing your photography and business skills.
I have a secret...come in closer...I'm in a HUGE photography rut right now. My 365 has fallen by the wayside and I go days without picking up my camera. Yikes!! Probably not something I should be telling you guys since I write a blog about photography but it's true.

Topic 13: Time Hi Everyone, Leandra here to introduce a new topic on the PaperArtsy Blog: Time. When I first started getting into this craft caper over 20 years ago, stamps that involved clocks, cogs/ gears, timepieces were among my regular favourites. I love how this images work in numerous situations, and easily provide a focal point. Before we get into the nitty gritty, here is Darcy with the winner for our last challenge which of course was Stencils. Darcy here...Stencils are so versatile, and you have come up with some brilliant techniques over the past 3 weeks. Amazing results have been achieved by reversing the stencil, layering your stencils, bumping, and using the stencil shape to create a transfer. Your finished projects have been stunning, from tags to journal pages, collages with embellies and sunny scrapbook layouts. Sooooo, the winning name out of the hat for Topic 12: Stencils..is...Susan Carol from Faith Words,Faith Expressions Please email Darcy to claim your prize [email protected] It's Leandra back with you to explore Time. First up, here is a short video. As you can see from the video, here at PaperArtsy we have numerous 'time' themed stamps, some quirky, some vintage, and some in the middle. Cast your mind back to 7 days ago, and you may vaguely recollect there was a new Hot Pick with Clocks on it too! Remember this...? But what I forgot to show in the video were these reasonably new stamps from earlier in the year, also Hot Picks. HPXT06 (lots of months/ dates), HPXT07 (large months in various fonts), HPXT08 (days/ timewords). We also have a 'clocks' series in the Ink and the Dog Stamp series. These stamps are 1/2 A4, so that is A6 size, about 3.5" x 5", and are available unmounted or EZ Mounted. These are still some of my favourite images from the Ink and the Dog series. Or if you prefer something a bit more quirky...how about these from Squiggly Ink? Again, there are numbers that are useful on clock faces, but there are also build-a-birds with clocks for tummies! So there are all kinds of stamps, and also plenty of minis that fit these themes already available. So what might you make with these, or any other time-themed stamps you might have to hand? Well here are some interesting ideas for you to consider! Well you could do some simple stamping/ masking and colouring onto AB pages, a bit like the above samples. Maybe you might find some time-relevant words to use in a journal page? Or maybe you will do something very mixed-media style with layers and texture, like these ideas Or this, a submission to Cloth Paper Scissors ? What about some layering of elements for a book cover? Or perhaps a book? I love how the pages are burnt at the edges, this also infers the passing of time, or perhaps how precious and fragile time is? The egg timer and clock are instered into niches, that are also distressed. Really nice book! But this looks like a lot of thought and planning has gone into this wonderful canvas. If you have a load of embellishments lying about, perhaps you might gives something like this a go? More here. There are many more ideas on my Pinterest page . I'll be pinning more over the next 2 weeks while this topic is open. I hope you can find time to join in! Leandra Topic 13:Time You are welcome to share your ideas and link up your creativity to this page. My Mother, unfortunately the early photos aren't dated, but I think the one on the left is circa 1930, the middle 1946-1948. I imagine the center photo was taken at Easter since she is wearing a corsage, they did that back then and there are a number of EAster photos. The other thing is to look at the lovely suit she is wearing. I am sure that she sewed it. My mother was an incredible seamstress and made all my clothes when I was growing up. She tailored sports jackets for my Dad, what a talent she had, I did not inherit her love of sewing!! I used the the beautiful Glitz Love Games for this LO. I love the poppy red in these papers. I made the red poppies, see my poppy tut, link on my sidebar. The wonderful swirly leaves are cut with a Heartfelt Creations/Spellbinders die. The black swirls are stamped images. They are Inkadinkadoo and I got them at Michaels. I like them, I bet you will see them again! Oh the Dusty Attic chipboard colum and pot with the ferns. They are so lovely and add the perfect touch fo class to a layout. I painted the column first with a whitewash of acrylic antique white. Then I used biscotti perfect pearls to paint inside the column and the accents on the column. The pot was painted first with a good coat of biscotti perfect pearls. After that dried I took a very find paintbrush and lightly painted random lines with capuccino perfect pearls to imitate marbling. After that dried I added a coat of Crackle Accents which i discovered does not stick very well to perfect pearls so I painted over it all with Diamond Glaze and it seems to be holding just fine. I also added some gold perfect pearls to accentuate the design on the pot. Ther fern leaves are also Dusty Attic and they have been coated with Olive Vine Glimmer Mist. Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope all your days are stellar!!

This is a photo heavy post, so get comfy if you have the time. Although I cannot tell you all the details on how I made this worn journal cover, I can show and tell the extra bits which I did to add to my project that are not in Tim's book on Page 35! Go to Linda's blog to see more ideas by the Curiosity Crew for inspiration. I started with a brand new Cover. Covered it with Gel medium Then adhered a sheet of gift wrap tissue paper which I had scrunched up. When the front was dry, I glued the inside and wrapped the paper round the cover. Now I had a textured cover, inside and out! I started on the front cover with distress paint and water which takes an age to dry, but I prefer it to air dry than help it with a heat gun as it seems to dry more interesting when left to its own devices! You can see how much paler it dries below! Once this was dry, I had run out of patience so I did the inside with a thin layer of paint and blended it with a baby wipe. This showed up the wrinkles nicely. Once this was dry (which was quick!) I lightly smeared some bronze paint dabber onto the raised areas of tissue paper around the edge of the cover, inside and out. Then I set about making the decorations for the cover and shopped my stash for trinkets. I added distress embossing powder to the clock die to make it look rusted. Here you can see how I plotted my layout before adding my stencils. I discovered a great thing about this stencil, if you stencil it straight first, you can angle it the second time and get a full second clock at the top! as per below! This is the finished base for the front of my cover. The inside looked like this before I added the cut off piece of clock die. I used a brad though my ribbon, the buckle and the clock die to anchor it all in place. This is how it looks from the top The clock face from the remnant rub fitted perfectly inside this Spellbinders cog die. For extra texture I added some flat backed pearls. The safety pin on the spine acts as an anchor for the excess ribbon once it is buckled up. The Antique bronze distress paint that I added to the metal cogs and word strip look almost gold in these photos, but they are quite copper in real life! I added the off cut from the front clock to the inside cover of the back page. This is the buckle closed, as if the cover was full inside. I am still working on the contents! Tim's buckle is such a clever piece of idea-ology. Functional and good looking! So this is my cover, inside and out. If you want to join in this challenge, get yourself a copy of the Compendium of Curiosities 3 and go to page 35. This is an odd numbered challenge, so the sponsor for the lucky draw prize is Inspiration Emporium who are giving a generous $50 voucher! Tim and Mario sponsor an awesome selection of goodies as the prize for the person's project chosen by the Curiosity Crew. To be eligible for this prize, you have to comment on every Curiosity Crews members inspirational piece and stick to the few rules Linda stipulates....

To see more close-ups and to find out how I created the meadow setting for them (and altered the stems themselves, hopefully to preserve them for longer) do come and visit me at Words and Pictures. S@ndy It is so nice to receive a lovely card for no reason at all so I am paying it forward. I have received some very nice cards from friends during our "stay at home" time so will send this one off soon. If you would like to see more information on my card please join me over at my blog here. Barbara During this quarantine time, I'm obsessed to create tags! For this challenge I decided to use a fabulous floral stencil by Tim Holtz matched with Crackle and Embossing Glaze. Visit my blog Yayascrap & more if you want to see the whole tutorial! Toni For Jennie's fabulous challenge this month, I've returned to my beloved Tim Holtz, Tattered Florals die. It's my all time favourite die for making flowers, in almost any material! Hop over to my blog if you'd like to see how I altered this canvas bag and embellished it with home made felt 'beautiful blooms'. ____________________ We hope you will join us at A Vintage Journey this month and share your projects showcasing your blooms. As always we will be selecting some of our favourites as Pinworthies to go on our Vintage Journey pinboards over on Pinterest. Thank you so much for stopping by today. Happy crafting and stay safe. Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be sharing this post today for my Maja Design Team! (I have an awesome MAJA DESIGN GIVEAWAY today....further down the post!) and It's the first Tuesday of the month so that means it's time for the Maja Mood Board Challenge! I made the above page using the September Mood Board as my inspiration. The mood board colors are based on the 'Walking in the Forest' collection, and are just perfect for those autumn photos! The photo I scrapped above is of my daughters best friend, I took this photo when they were are the Maple Syrup festival, they were eating some of those huge smoked turkey legs, and her friend was hamming it up with the turkey bone :) As I mentioned I used the 'Walking in the Forest" collection for this page, here are the individual papers I used from this collection to make up the page... I used a bunch of Recollection blooms to decorate the page, and I found this clay bloom I made a little while back using Fimo and some Pearlex powder and a glass bead, I thought the colors went well with page so I just added it into my bloom cluster. The blue flower is from Petaloo and the chipboard is a border flourish from Dusty Attic that I cut in half and used in a couple of places on the page. I also used another Dusty Attic chipboard piece Berrie Branches to frame the photo. The mask I used around the photo is the Prima mask by Finnabiar. I used the Clearsnap Distress Ink in Denim and Honey. Have I mentioned how much I love the My Little Yellow Bicycle word stamps?! I just adore the swirly font they use, and the words are really the sort I can use for my everyday layouts! MAJA DESIGN GIVE-AWAY!!! Okay now for the fun part! Maja Design is bringing out their NEW Autumn collection called Vintage Autumn Basics! Here is a little peek at the collection.... All the beautiful vintage elements we've come to love about Maja Design papers (Ohhh, lovin' the clock design sheet!) I know I can't wait to get my happy little hands on this collection! But I can go one better than that! I have a full collection pack to give away to someone I will chose from the comments at this blog post! Just leave a comment letting us know which papers have caught your eye in this collection. (We would love for you to 'like' our new FaceBook page as well, if you have not done so already....you can find the Maja Design FaceBook page HERE). When I sat down to start designing the April kit for the Handmade Club, our challenging times were foremost in my thoughts. Given that the majority of us are staying safe and isolating at home right now, there’s more time for crafting… but for many the buying of craft supplies is more difficult, and in some cases not affordable, so I decided to create a kit that would serve you better. April’s kit, The Vintage Dressmaker, is a collection filled with useful craft storage items, so you can make use of what you already have, while organising your craft supplies.
Day 17 - On the Shelf Fabric of course, I really need to use these up. And hanging from the shelf are my grids. Estate sale find. Day 18 - In my bag Not too exciting, but I got a new Vera Bradley for the fall. Wallet, checkbook, glasses and case, gum, iPhone and hand sanitizer. Day 19 - Where I slept My side of the bed. Don't let the innocent lab on the ground fool you, she slept there too. Little one left his blankie. Day 20 - What I read I read on my iPhone, yes on my phone with the Kindle app. I have not read this much in a long time but it makes it so easy. I have read these books months ago and I am currently reading Ethereal. Hoping to see The Help very soon. The Hunger Games is coming out as a movie too. Day 21 - A pretty pattern Grandmother's Flower Garden This quilt was made by my great grandmother, probably in the 1930's or 1940's. My Aunt had the quilt top and she gave it to me. I had it quilted and finished the binding and now it lives in my bedroom. Day 22 - Trees Pink Tabebuia Tree I took this back in March of this year, these are not at all blooming in FL right now. I absolutely love this tree... The bad part about FL is that we do not get the fall leaves changing, but we do get this for a couple weeks.
Are you excited to enter into a new year? I am! I see some wonderful new adventures waiting for me just around the corner! I have decided to start a year long personal challenge. I have chosen 52 words and listed them in random order. I will use one of these words each week as an art journal inspiration prompt. I have created a hashtag to go with this series: #artlove52. I will be adding photos to Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram with this hashtag. If you would like to join me, please do! Add the hashtag #artlove52 to your posts so I can find them! I would love to add some random #artlove52 creations from other people to my blog posts, so please join in! Please feel free to save the image above and print it out for yourself!
Oh how I love an "Anything Goes" theme, which is what's happening this week over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog! Since there were no rules and limitless freedom, I decided to make a rule for myself (counter-productive, I know). That rule was to finish the inside of one of my favorite folios. I always love doing the outside, but I admit to dropping the ball when it comes to making the inside spiffy, too. But not this time! I did it all and here it is: LOVE these new Tim Holtz Photobooth strips! I added some words to the front and some washi and paint to the background. I mixed lots of different Tim Holtz paper, but mainly used the Wallflower collection. And you know I love the Found Relatives cards, too, but I didn't realize I loved the backs of the cards as well! For the top flap, I used the back of a Found Relatives card and stuck the word, "Possibility" in the center, then decorated with more stenciling and paint. For the bottom flap, I used the front side of a Found Relatives card and again added some stenciling and inking, as well as a word or two. For the outside of the bottom flap, I went with Tim's classic clocks and kicked them up with some color. All the fun word stickers you're seeing are from Tim's new Big Chat and Small Talk lines. Here it is with all of its inside flaps and panels exposed. The products I used on my folio project are available at Simon Says Stamp. The 100 Day Project is a free, global art project. Every year, thousands of people all around the world commit to 100 days of exploring their creativity. This year will be my seventh year participating in The 100 Day Project. This year I will be doing 100 Days of Paper, Fabric and Stitching.
To delve deeper and make a commitment to myself, I started a 52 Week Challenge. Starting... NOW!
Hi and welcome to a new challenge at Fashionable Stamping, and this time we would love to see your 'alterations', but don't forget, as we are a stamping challenge we still need to see some stamping. We are again sponsored by Flonzcraft who are offering a random winner a $20 gift cert. to spend in their online store. A few weeks ago you might remember I made a book cover following this tutorial, and I have been wanting to try the technique again, decided on a refresher but for some reason the video wouldn't play after about 30 mins. so I improvised! - I missed out the black layer, and did a bit more spraying!! Still love the results. I almost forgot to take a picture of 'before'! I wanted roughly the same colours as before, but this time I also used Perfect Pearls Forever Violet mist, and instead of finishing with a dry brushed layer of white to highlight, I used Adirondack Gold paint, and then Aquamarine Treasure Gold over the top. For the inside, as we are a stamping challenge I made my own papers to line the box. I used Distress inks, Tumbled Glass, Dusty Concord, Iced Spruce and Wild Honey, and then spritzed with water, love this effect. The stamps are Tim Holtz, and Inkylicious branches that my butterfly is escaping from, I also used Crafters Workshop masks with Embossing paste for the script and the butterflies on the side panels. My very talented teamies have some wonderful alterations to show you, so please pop over here for some wonderful inspiration. I am entering this at Our Creative Corner - Anything Goes Simply Create Too - Anything Goes Craft Room Challenge - Make your own papers Eclectic Ellapu - Anything Goes No Matter which challenges - Things with Wings Thank you for all your lovely comments lately, I really do appreciate them, especially as I haven't had much time to return them this week - I have made the Wedding Cake - 4 tiers, plus 1 extra just in case there isn't enough! DD has finally made her mind up on the Invitations, so a start has been made there too. Have a great Sunday whatever you're doing. Avril xx
Hello and welcome, My name is Vicki Boucher, and I am from Melbourne, Australia. Tonight, is the latest Colour INKspiration Challenge #CI167 this photo was chosen by Colour INKspiration Crew Member, Bronwyn. The chosen colour combination for #CI167 is Pretty in Pink, Basic White and Basic Black. As well as the chosen colours you may also like to add Very Vanilla, Basic Beige, Crumb Cake and metallics to your project. We also allow 'Ivory', 'Bronze' and 'Natural Tones' in the Stampin' Blends. If you don't have all the colour palette, feel free to use the closest SU substitute (ie: Bubble Bath instead of Pretty in Pink.... for example). The challenge will run for almost 2 weeks until 7pm (AEST) on Monday 24th June 2024 details to follow at the end of my blog. I just love this colour palette and the inspiration photo is gorgeous! Pretty in Pink was on top of the list when I first saw this new In Color, it's so much fun! I used Attention Shoppers bundle for my card and the circle die from the Spotlight on Nature dies is perfect to showcase the shopping bags in the trolley. I used the paper piecing technique by stamping the gift bag image onto Pretty in Pink 2024-2026 In Color 6x6 Designer Series Paper and also on Basic White cardstock. Then I fussy cut out the images and added the white carry bag handles to the pretty pattern paper. To create the left gift bag, I drew pink polka dots using Pretty in Pink Stampin' Write Marker. The bags are full of gifts which was fun to do. The inked up black and white background was using all of the smaller images and some of the sentiments onto Basic White cardstock panel leaving some white space in between the stamped images. On the other side of the stamped panel, I added a strip of Pretty in Pink In Color DSP and Pretty in Pink Bordered Ribbon. I created a large pink bow by using Pretty in Pink Bordered Ribbon, to do this I use the Paper Snips and cut along the center of the ribbon until there's enough length to tie a bow. Losen the strands by gently pulling the strands away and then carefully tie into a bow. Tip, make sure you don't have any glue on your fingers or else the threads will stick to your fingers. To finish off the card I heat embossed the sentiment and added a few of Pretty in Pink embellishments to the card. I hope I've inspired you with the latest challenge and I do hope you'll join in. We so look forward to seeing a variety of projects using the challenge colours. Please ensure that your project is new and made specifically for this challenge. Challenge guidelines: Create a NEW project made specifically for this challenge. Use all of the challenge colours (or close substitutions) unless stated. Upload only ONE picture per entry straight to the discussion wall and NOT in an album. Colour INKspiration Challenge #CI167 will run until 7pm (ADET) on Monday 24th June 2024. To get your creative ideas flowing, make sure you check out the Crew's Project in the CI167 Album. Please click on the link here to join the challenge.
