How to turn scraps into bookmarks. Turn leftover scrap paper, scrap booking paper, cardstock etc and turn them into beautiful bookmarks!

Eure Steffi

Hello! Club Scrap Design Teamer Kay here :) Sticking with this week's Club Scrap Creates blog theme, here I am with a Dynamite Dozen of my own things that I like. I have to admit, I want to list several things my awesome co-workers have already. They have such good taste, so there may be some duplicates. Here it goes: 1. Miniature Stuff. Little bottles, tiny books, etc.... I seem to be drawn to tiny objects, so darn cute, they make me happy. 2. Club Scrap's White Pigment Ink. The reason is rather black and white...it's just so cool stamped onto black cardstock. 3. Heart with Wings. I have a necklace with a heart/wings charm, and I adore Club Scrap's From The Heart Wings Of Love stamp because it has that image on it. I'm glad my college roomates don't live in town because they probably would have talked me into a tattoo of it by now (LOL). I saw this wooden heart and wings piece (shown below) attached to a picture frame in the sale bin at a local craft store, I had to carefully cut and pry it off with a large knife (well, after buying it) so that I could paint and attach it to the lid of my altered book music box project. 4. Music Box Project. Speaking of that altered book music box project shown above, here is the inside. It's one of my favorite extra curricular projects. Still on a music box high from my retreat classes last year, I want to make even more! We still had the "Fur Elise" music mechanism in GHM, so it was fun to cut nooks into this old book and install the music box into it - one of my favorite altered creations. 5. Lunch or dinner outside at a local favorite restaurant. Once the weather gets nice enough in Wisconsin, I have to go enjoy the outdoor dining at Fratello's Riverside Restaurant. It's a cool old brick building on the Fox River that used to be a Vulcan Hydroelectric Power Plant waaaay back in its day. Anyway, they have couple of tables set up for outdoor dinning where I certainly like spending some time. 6. Soldered Charms. Here is the little collection I happen to have on my dresser. 7. Flower gardening. I go to the Farmer's Market when I can for veggies, so I have more space to grow flowers. Marilee snapped this pic of me picking dahlias in our yard. 8. Giving flowers from my garden. I used the dahlias just picked to hopefully brighten a friend's day. 9. Book Board. I certainly can't forget Book Board with all its infinite possibilities. It would be difficult to count how many project prototypes I've cut and made from Book Board. 10. Anything with a cool quote added to it. That gets me every time. 11. Graceful angel statues. 12. Any kind of project that I can incorporate family photos into! Of course, my favorites can change with the wind, but this concludes my dynamite dozen list for today! Hoping your day is filled with at least a dozen "things you like". Thanks for stopping by, Kay Williamson of Club Scrap

Hello my dear friends, I bought myself some new rubber gloves ~ one left hand and a right hand ~ and I got to do my felting at last. I can now finally share my new felted nests with you. I have had so much fun making these and this time I made them spring time nests. I used many new types and colors of wool to give the effect of fresh moss, dried little twiglets and spring time colors. And this time I added a new little idea and twist to the nests which I came up with while I was working on them. Remember these? I had asked you if you could guess what they would become and the answer is ... ... little book page leaves!! I wasn't too sure about the shade of green I chose for the leaves so I made some more but without the color wash and I liked them if not just as much as the green ones, maybe even more. I not only got carried away taking many photos again but I also got carried away in making many nests as you will see and ... I still have 4 more on my worktable right now waiting to be finished! Combined the felted nest and paper leaves make these lovely creations! ... Springtime nests ... ... just be waiting for some little bird to come and call it home. I made a bigger one ... ... and smaller ones ... ... some with green leaves .. ... and some with white ... ... some with little flowers ... ... and some without ... ... but each one just as pretty as the other never the less! I hope you have enjoyed my newest creation today. You can still find my felted nest tutorial on the right side of my blog under my free tutorials if you wish to try it for yourself. I hope you are well and life is treating your kind. Have a peaceful and creative day, Karen B.

Inspired by some various projects I've seen for using up scraps, I decided to make an alphabet matching game using some of my ridiculous amounts of scrap fabric. And of course, the project kept growing as it went, and is taking a while to perfect, but I think the outcome is going to be great! I may even use this same idea/pattern to attempt an alphabet quilt. No, I don't actually know how to quilt. Yes, I'm crazy. I decided to break this project up into multiple posts because I think otherwise I'd end up with one monstrous, confusing tutorial. So today I'm posting about the beginning of the process, and the free printable pattern! For the letters I used Arial Black - I wanted a font that would be easy to trace and cut out, and the letters would be very clear. If you make your own pattern, be sure to choose a sans serif font - one without the little lines at the edges of the letters - because they are much easier to cut out, and also easier for kids to identify. ex: A A The one on the left is a sans serif, the one the right is not - it has serifs. Here is the printable pattern for all of the letters. Then came the tricky part - coming up with something for each letter that could be easily identified when just the shape was cut out of fabric. And that a young child would know - or at least mine would. It took a little while, a little cheating (X and Q are really hard!), and the help of my sisters, but I finally came up with shapes for all the letters! (still trying to come up with a few letters here) Some of them I modified from clip art and other pictures I found online, and many of them I drew myself (I'm really proud and surprised by this! Maybe I can draw after all! But only basic shapes...) But I finally got all of them the right size, and (hopefully) identifiable shapes. So here is the printable pattern for all of the matching alphabet shapes! Once you've printed out your pattern, start cutting them all out. It takes a while to cut out all the little pieces, so you can start on that while you wait for the rest of the tutorial! :) A few of the shapes might be harder to identify, so let me explain. J is a jellyfish, but it's going to have ric-rac/ribbon tentacles, so I didn't draw them on the shape outline. Q is for queen, but this one I kind of cheated and did a crown. The rectangle for X is for "x marks the spot" and it's a treasure map - I have some awesome pirate-themed fabric that is perfect for this one! Is this one cheating too? I think it might be... And the circle for Y is for yo-yo. I'm going to attach a string/ribbon to it. Once it's all finished, I'll have the matching game magnet book pages with all of the letters and shapes. One of the fun things about these patterns is that they can be used for so many other things - as stencils, coloring pages, other matching games, really anything. If you come up with a fun way to use them, please share! More on actually making the plush magnetic versions from fabric scraps coming very soon!

Here's a simple and quick way to pretty up a plain notebook. We love adding lace patterns—like this coffee table project here! This technique works best on canvas or fabric covered notebooks. Here's how you can make your own: 1. Supplies: Notebook with a fabric or canvas front, fabric spray paint, lace, scissors, packing tape, and a trash bag. 2. First, cut out a piece of lace slightly larger than...
