Green Tara DT Layout - Moments December 2012
I have had the front of this trivet pieced for about a year! Every week or two I see it in my drawer but I haven't been inspired to finish it until yesterday :o)
You may recall that the purpose of this monthly challenge group is to take our scrapbooking to the next level, to stretch our creative process and to grow as artists by embracing challenges that make us think, work and grow. It was my turn to post the challenge this month and this is what I wrote: "Inspiration Elevator has been such a tremendous experience for me! We have explored our style, stretched our single pages into two, documented our fears and regrets, scrapbooked our beliefs, worked with less than perfect photos and have even gone vintage! Hopefully we have each grown as a result of being a part of this group – I know I have! One of the fun things about scrapbooking is working with our photos. We get to pick and choose our favorite photos and have fun recording the memories behind them. So this month, I thought we could stretch our creativity by having some fun with our photos! I assume we all work with digital photos, so this month’s challenge will work for everyone. I want you to pick a photo and then alter it in some way using your favorite photo editing program. I would like to see something more than just making your photo black and white. Maybe use a special effect, add a frame, play with text, etc. There is so much you can do! Play with your photo until it conveys a particular look or feel that will help you to express your memories associated with that picture. Then add it to your page! When you post your finished project, please share how you altered your photo, and why you chose the effects you did. (Maybe you could even post a before and after of your photo!)" I had a particular photo in mind that I wanted to work with. It is a photo that I took last summer of my niece Sarah. As pretty as the photo was, I thought I could play with it a bit to make it stand out even more. The is the photo I began with: This is the photo after editing it in Photoshop Elements: My hope was to create a more ethereal feel to the picture to somehow express how much I love my niece. I used three different overlays on this photo to achieve the look I wanted: Patchy Fog, Hazy Spots and Gold Light Streams. The overlays are from Portrait Pizzazz for use with Photoshop. I was really happy with how it turned out! Then I paired my finished photo with Kaisercraft's Pickled Pear Collection of papers and stickers to create my layout. Lots of layering, some stamping (postage and coffee stain stamps), my favorite ribbon and a pretty little border along the top of my page completed the layout I was hoping for! I hope you will stop by and see what the other designers on this adventure have created: Christa Uttley Laura Whitaker Audrey Yeager Lisa Moen Laurel Seabrook Ann Jobes Cathy Harper Sue Sykes Lisa Spiegel If you would like to take up the challenge this month, please post a comment below and I will be sure to stop by to see what you have created ♥

Ciao a tutti! Veronica Scrap Blu.

Lately I've been on a kick to try to use more of my scraps. I have a lot saved up, and I'd love to start using them more in my quilts. I designed this super scrappy flying geese block to use some low volume prints, gray prints, and some prints in your favorite color - (right now mine is green) and I named this block the Scrap Bin Geese block. Here's what you'll need for one block: 12 (2.5" square) green print scraps 6 (2.5" x 6.5") gray print strips 6 (2.5" x 6.5") low volume strips Step 1: Using a pencil, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each of the 2.5" green squares. Step 2: Lay out all of the block elements as shown above, with the low volume strips on one side and the gray on the other. Decide where you want to place each green square. Step 3: Flip over the green squares so they are right sides together with the low volume / gray strips. At this point you want to make sure your drawn lines are going in the correct direction (see photo above). Step 4: Sew directly on the drawn lines. Step 5: Trim each seam allowance to about 1/4". Fold open each green triangle and press. Step 6: Next, sew sections of block together in strips, using a scant 1/4" seam allowance (see photo below). For example, sew strip 1 to strip 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6, etc. Press seams open Step 7: Sew rows together, using a scant 1/4" seam and matching up the center seams. Once all rows are sewn together, press seams. Block should measure 12.5' square You can mix things up by swapping which side the gray prints are on like in the photo below. And here is a sample of what a whole quilt would look like! This is made of 30 blocks (6 rows of 5 blocks each) and would measure 60" x 72". Looking for more quilt block tutorials? Hi everyone! Gabrielle here with you today to share with you my first project as a Shimmerz Educator! I was so excited to get my happy little hands on some of the NEW Inklingz and was just amazed by the beautiful effect you can get with them. As soon as I saw the color 'Blue My Mind' from the Inklingz, I knew I had to do something whimsical with it. I pulled out some polymer baking clay (Sculpey or Fimo) and made a mermaid tail to act as a center-piece to my canvas design. I also made a few little accent pieces (Starfish designs) to add to the canvas as well. The mermaid was made by sculpting the clay by hand (basically rolling the clay in the palm of my hands and forming a tail) and the 'scales' were added by using the tip of a pen (with the pen retracted so that the ink tip doesn't touch the clay). I used the pen tip on the starfish as well to create a little textural pattern. I baked it for 15 minutes (275 degree oven) and gave the piece a coat of Gesso....now it is ready to paint! I gathered together a bunch of my gorgeous Shimmerz products and an 8"x10" canvas and got started. Here is a list of the Shimmerz products I used for this canvas..... Shimmerz Products: Inklingz (Blue My Mind, Miner Miner 49er), Texturez (Patina), Spritz (Treasured Hymn), Vibez (Egg Noggin', Jenni B Blue), Dazzlerz (Tutti-Frutti), Shimmerz (Key Lime, Olive Green). Dusty Attic Chipboard: (NEW) Sea Grass, Grass Clusters, Mini Grass clusters #2, Mini Corner #2, Title Alphas And to make it easy to follow along, I created a video tutorial to show, step by step how I created this canvas. Enjoy! Here are a few close-ups of my project.... The Inklingz create such a wonderful two toned, shimmering effect, I think my favorites are in the 'Gold' collection, I know I'll be using these again and again! As you can see in the video, Shimmerz products are easy to use. The Inklingz are a little different because they are a dry cake, much like a watercolor pigment cake. You just add a little sprtiz of water let it sit for a moment and do a little stirring with your paint brush. The more you stir, the thicker and more luxurious the paint becomes. For my chipboard piece I used some Shimmerz paint, they have wonderful little flecks of mica in them that not only add glitter to your design but even a tiny bit of texture as well. And finally here is a photo of the corner cluster of embellishments I added to my project. I hope you enjoyed my project and that I've inspired you to give a mixed media canvas a try. If you would like to purchase some of the NEW Inklingz or any other Shimmerz products, just head on over to the SHIMMERZ STORE .....and remember if you would like a FREE bonus Shimmerz product, when you put your order in just put my name 'Gabrielle' into the 'INTRUCTIONS TO MERCHANT' area and you will recieve a FREE full sized bottle of Dimensionz or Shimmerz or a sample sized jar of Dazzlers or Textures in the color of your choice! Note: right now you can get extra savings on your Inklingz by purchasing full sets of the Pearl, Gold or Metal color groups! Thanks so much for stopping by today and checking out my project! xo www.gabriellepollacco.blogspot.ca
