The Sol Top is a classic tank top knitted in all over stocking stitch with folded trim straps. The simplicity of the shape and stitch allows for experimentation with yarns and colours. We have knitted ours with 2 colours held together to create a marled effect, and also experimented with a striped scrap yarn version. Knitted in one piece from the bottom up, the Sol Top is knitted in the round until reaching the armhole, then worked flat on half of the stitches to form the back and then the front. Stitches are picked up around the armholes and trims knitted in the round, casting off whilst folding the trim in half. This pattern provides easy to follow detailed instructions using the following techniques: Long tail cast on, knitting in the round, knitting flat, knit, purl, stocking stitch, decreasing, folded cast off, picking up stitches, cable cast on.
EDIT: For tassels, add the bookmarks you want to your cart, then separatley, add (+1 tassel to order) To your cart and the quantity for how many bookmarks you would like to receive said tassel! The tassels are 75 cents each! When I make my prints, I end up with a lot of scrap paper and scrap rubber as I cut all my paper by hand. I decided to finally make use of a lot of my scrap paper, and use them in creating these adorable miniature botanical prints and bookmarks!! The size for all of them varies as they are from scrap paper, but you can pick between longer and shorter varieties! For reference, the designs themselves for the first five styles are all about 3 inches, so give or take a few inches depending on the amount of paper around the print. With inspiration from scrap-booking where you put different pieces together for a pleasent harmony, I worked this child cardigan using different stitch-patterns. Along the way I was thinking that this would be the perfect bridesmaids cardigan, or a cardigan for special occasions.. And I really enjoyed working it, it was great fun to knit the different patterns: from the moss-st (seed-st) edges, the petal border, the honeycomb and the roman lace. They all worked so well together:) Design: Classic lines to ensure the best possible fit for your baby/toddler. Construction: The cardigan is seamlessly worked bottom-up. Lower body is worked side-to-side, sleeves are worked in-the-round. At underarms body and sleeves are joined and work is continued in one piece. The upper body is shaped by raglan-decreases, Sts are picked up for neckline and button-bands. Sizes: Cardigan: finished chest circumference, when buttoned: 3months 41cm/16” / 6months 45cm/16.75” / 9months 48cm/19” / 1 year 52cm/20.5” / 18months 55cm/21.5” / 2y 58cm/23” / 3 y 60cm/23.5” / 4y 63cm/24.75” . Materials I recommend that you use a sport weight yarn with great stitch-definition. I used the sport weight ”Pashmina” from Madelinetosh to work the cardigan. This yarn comes in skeins of 329meters/360yards. You will need approximately 270/310/350/390/430/480/520/575 meters = 295/340/385/425/470/525/570/630 yards to work the cardi. Yardage might vary from yarn to yarn and from one knitter to another. Needles: Choose needle size to obtain gauge. I used needle size 3.5mm/US4, this is a suggestion only. For the lower body you might use a circular or straight needles. For the upper body I recommend a circular needle. For the sleeves you might use a set of dpns or a circular needle (if working the magic loop). For the neckline and button-bands you can use a circular or straight needles. Notions: 4 removable stitch-markers, separate holders, buttons 13-15mm/0.5-0.6” across. The pattern All measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches. All necessary stitch-counts are given. There is a schematic. All patterns are written out, row-by-row (round-by-round for sleeves). Please note that there is no chart. Knitting skills The pattern gives you the occasion of trying out some new stitch-patterns. However, all the patterns are easy to work, no special skills are needed. To work the cardigan you should be able to cast-on, bind-off, pick up sts, working in the round, working simple decreases and increases.
Kawandi is a style of quilt created by the Siddi people of India, traditionally done by hand. It is truly scrappy and improvisational. While I like doing hand work, I was also intrigued by faster machine methods. I've listed some resources at the end of this tutorial if you are interested in creating Kawandi by hand, want to see another machine tutorial, want to see some footage of Siddi creating Kawandi by hand, and a discussion of creating Kawandi in your own style. This tutorial describes a new way of creating Kawandi by machine. These are NOT traditional Kawandi, but inspired by the joy and movement of Kawandi-style. I started with a background piece of fabric approximately 8x10", a piece of batting of the same size, and many scraps of batiks or quilting cottons. 1) Place the background over the batting, right side up (this is a quilt as you go technique, so the batting is incorporated from the beginning. 2) Place 4 scraps in the corners, right side DOWN - NOTE I'm using batiks in these examples, so its hard to tell that these pieces are upside down. In this image, you are looking at what will be the WRONG side of those scrap corners. 3) Begin UNDERLAPPING adjoining scraps into the corners. Fold approximately 1/4 inch on the side that will go UNDER the corner. Again, the scraps are placed upside down. Pin the piece in place along the edge. This will be machine sewn. 4) When you get to the next corner, fold the 1/4 inch on both sides of the scrap because it will go under 2 pieces of fabric. 5) Continue folding and underlapping scraps, pinning along the outer edge until you get the entire edge filled. Notice that it doesn't matter if you use short scraps, or long scraps. And again, its impossible to tell from this image because I'm using batiks, but you are looking at the right side of the background, and the WRONG side of the colorful scraps. 6) Sew 1/4 in seam all the way around the edge, removing pins as you come to them. 7) Clip the 4 corners close to the seam, being careful not to cut the thread. 8) Turn right side out by flipping each scrap over the seam. Use a tool to poke out or pull out the corners. There should be no raw edges of fabric along the edge of the piece because they are either in the seam OR they are folded under. 9) Carefully press the outer edge - taking care not to press the batting, as it might melt depending on fiber content. 10) The result is a piece with finished edges like this: 11) Top stitch close to the edge, This will secure all the folded under edges of each scrap. 12) When you are on the 4th side, approaching the beginning of your stitch line, turn the corner about 1/4" or 3/8" before you get there, to start the 'spiral' of stitching. The next steps are done just like Kawandi by hand, but you continue sewing on the machine. 13) To place the next piece, fold under 2 edges. Finger press or iron as necessary. Overlap the unfinished edges of previous scraps. 14) to place a color into a long strip, fold under 3 edges, staying aware of where you will place another scrap to overlap. 15) To keep a small scrap straight as you sew over the edge, it may be necessary to use long tweezers or stiletto. 16) Continue placing scraps and sewing in concentric rectangles, into the center. Note: this picture is from another project than the ones above. 17) Prepare the final scrap by folding under all 4 sides, and sewing the ever smaller rectangles/squares of stitching. 18) For the piece made of batiks, I decided the center "squares" looked better on the diagonal. Although not traditional at all, I've already broken so many 'rules', that I just decided to make this mine. Also, I'm aware that traditional Kawandi have 'folded flowers' in the 4 corners. Include them if you wish. Make it yours!
