One of the many things I'm working on at the moment is an Altered Book project, with a group of like-minded paper lovers. This is the first time I've tried altered books. I get to work on someone's book for a month, usually with a set theme. This month I've been working on Jenni's book. She has no theme, so its totally up to me what I do with the pages of her Sherlock Holmes detective story book. I decided on a retro theme using vintage sewing patterns, see the image below. I was inspired by a recent project led by Jenni making baskets from paper patterns. I hope Jenni enjoys my "Sherlock Holmes Fashion Investigation" and my weird sense of humour.... Also pictured are some retro pattern magazines I picked up for 50cents at an Opportunity Shop this morning, I can't wait to start chopping them up for book pages and other fantastic paper projects.
I used blue for the first time~
Huswife, needle case or 'where do I put my scissors and thread when on the move?" Yep. Looking for a project to do using my 'scraps' of fabric as I won't be getting to fabric shop for a while. I have seen two types. One booklike. The others more like a long strip. rolled up I have an idea to use my little crazy patchwork sampler. Add another layer and wadding so there's enough padding so I can use it like a pincushion. With some squares as 'pockets'. I have made a start...not quite as neat as other peoples but its very...erm...me. The back of the panel sewed up sides but left small gap so I could pull inside out. I trimmed the excess first though. Sewing in pincushion. Also added ribbon loop and tie next to it for scissors. Added lots of different sized pockets. Including one that was thread reel sizes so I can use it for embroidery or general hand sew stuff. Rolls up and ties with ribbon. Still got a few more pockets to add but its just about finished. Finally Finished Had pockets for cotton reels and embroidery thread. Pin cushion and a little scissor holder.
I fully intended to complete and display this little table-topper and during my first-week-of-July ‘red, white & blue’ extravaganza. But reality hit and it didn’t happen. However, after having this project on my list for 2 years now, I figured I’d just go with the momentum, whether it was past the holiday or not. This was...Read More

I made this album for my sister. The picture inside is an old family picture of us.
Registration is now open I've always thought about how life can be likened to a road, it has straight stretches, but more often than not it also has many winding corners and mountain ranges. As we travel along our road, we also make many stops. Maybe it's to raise children, maybe it's marriage, separation or death. But, no matter what the road is like, we are often blessed to find some fabulous friends along the way, and some wonderful places. I wanted to make a wall hanging that reflected that in a quirky kind of way. This quilt reflects for me the road taken to my house and I would love for you to join me in this journey. The road to my house Make a delightful quilted wall hanging with me. This quilt will be unique and personal to you as it narrates the story of the road to your house. Celebrate your very own journey. Together we will use our sewing machines for some free motion stitching and a little hand stitching to add depth. Add a smattering of teabags, some vintage linen, an assortment of special treasures from your sewing room to embellish and you will have a wall hanging that's very individual and incredible. I will be there every step of the journey to advise you and guide you. Make your wall hanging the same size as mine or make it smaller. As we work together you can follow my directions and explore ideas generated in the workshop or you can be adventurous and put your own spin on your project, whichever road you take, remember, it’ll lead to your house. Play with fabric, step away from the burden of producing 'perfect' all the time. The quirkiness that you lend to this wall hanging will make it unique and a stunning piece of art. This workshop includes recycled new and vintage materials and will allow you to include as much or as little detail as you want to in the embellishing. All stitches are easy and I will help you if you get stuck with easy to follow directions, photos and videos. Work on this project at your own leisure, the wee stitcheries lend themselves to being popped into your purse and taken with you. Finish the hand stitching while you wait for the children, or at home while you watch tv. The class blog will remain open for an unlimited time. COST: $US55.00 START DATE: 11th September 2011 Join me for loads of fun in my brand new class as we share our journeys with each other. Feel free to take my class button above for your blog. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I am always only an email away. As you may already know I’ve decided to take a break from teaching my own programme of textile workshops for now. However the two that I taught earlier this year at The Restoration Yard, near Edinburgh were such a success,
Welcome to my "little" stop on the Club Scrap Constellations Blog Hop. Miniature books made using Club Scrap Constellations papers and stamps. Miniature handmade books displayed in a matchbox. I seem to be a "little" obsessed with miniature handmade books this month! It's like I'm "seein' stars" when I think of these mini book projects. The small scale galaxy print on the Constellations 8.5x11" White Text Weight Print (CST) was ideal for wrapping the covers. The smaller images on the Constellations Unmounted Stamps worked well for decorating for the front covers and inside pages. Each mini book has its own special features. It all started when I made this mini pamphlet stitch book to fit inside the 2-1/2 x 1-1/2" matchbox I had in my stash. (If you're interested in assembly instructions, check out the link for details.) I don't want to bore you with duplicate info, so I'm going to let the pictures do the talking. I guess it just wasn't in the stars for me to create only one mini book. For book #2, I created the world's smallest spiral bound notebook complete with a tiny library card holder attached to the inside cover. Spiral binding created with needle, waxed linen thread, and wooden dowel. Last, but not least...how cute is this tiny book with a nook built inside? I even got to incorporate the Constellations theme with a tiny bottle of glitter "star dust" inside! Below, a few visuals of the mini nook book construction. Wrapped outside book cover. Nook made with matte board cut to fit inside. Wrapped book nook piece is glued to the inside back cover. I think the Nook Book may be my favorite! It looks like I have a good start on a mini matchbox library. It will be fun to make more mini books with other Club Stamp Prints to add to my collection. Talk about "light" reading!!! Ha! Next on the hop is the lovely and talented Shona at Shona Scraps. Be sure to check out what she is up to with the Constellations Kit. Thanks for looking. Kay
