This easy to use no prep product has 40 different pieces that students can mix or match to create custom-designed animal lapbook reports. There are 20 with writing lines and 20 without lines. This project might be just the thing for review of writing skills and vocabulary pertinent to nonfiction reports. Rather than include animal faces and graphics for kids to copy, cut, and paste I decided to include a blank “picture piece” for kids to draw their own version of the animal they might choose for their reports. This way you won’t have your students doing “cookie cutter” animals. Kids can color and add details to the other pieces for originality. I added core standards for grades 2-4 on pages that could be posted in a classroom, ESL Insights, which is a guide to use this product with ELLs, and a new paper option for report writing. My students really enjoyed creating these lapbooks. They are really great organizers, too for further writing. Teachers who need portfolio writings can have their students use these lap books as springboards. I included a report template that could be used in addition to the lap book. Was this an unfortunate coincidence, or the MO of a serial killer?” This video is available on YouTube for free. The link to the video is included with the download. Several years ago I stopped using accompanying worksheets to videos I show in class. Too many times students are more focused in answering the questions, rather than absorbing what they are watching. But, I wanted the students to be actively engaged with the video. So, I started using “Video Reflections”. The video reflection handout has two columns on it. Student write what they have learned on the column on the left. They write down any questions they have on the column to the right. At the end of class, each student needs to tell the teacher something they learned, or a question they have. When given a choice, most students would rather have this type of assignment, compared to a worksheet. Forensic Files: “Shoe-in for Murder” Video Reflection Activity This assignment is a Video Reflection of Forensic Files: “Shoe-in for Murder”. A woman was murdered in her home, as her young daughter hid in her bedroom. The investigators use shoeprint and other evidence to solve the crime. The video is approximately 25 minutes long. “Terrified, the young girl hid in her bedroom while her mother was attacked and stabbed to death. The day was May 12, 1994, when Crystal Perry was viciously murdered in her home in Bridgton, Maine. Investigators had a wealth of evidence: shoe impressions, distinctive blood drops, and the killer's DNA. What they didn't have was a basis for comparison. Nevertheless, eventually Michael Hutchinson, 32, was found guilty of murder in the 1994 slaying at Perry's home.” This video is available on YouTube for free. The link to the video is included with the download. Disputed Documents Case Study Activity Description This is designed to be a group activity. The class is split up into groups. Each group is given an article about a particular historical incident involving a Disputed Document. The groups then reads through their article, and fill out the Disputed Documents Case Study Activity Handout. The handout has the following areas to be filled out: Name of case Date Location Significance Description of the case Conclusion After the students fill out their handouts they brief the class about their case. There are 4 separate Disputed Document Case Articles included. These are the names: Arthur Perry Graham Backhouse Hitler Diaries John Magnuson The Study Guide is TWO pages long. It has key vocabulary words that the students need to define. There are also 8 open response type questions the students need to answer. Both Word and PDF versions are provided. This will allow you to modify the lesson to your individual classroom needs. (You cannot copy or modify any part of this lesson to offer others for free or for sale.) The Justpardy Review Game PowerPoint has a similar concept to the game seen on TV Game Play Suggestion: Set up tables in front of the classroom, 1 table per team. Divide the class up into 3-5 team, depending on class size. Have each student taking a turn coming up that teams table at the front of the class. Rotate, so each team gets to pick the Answer on the screen. Each team representative in the front of the class writes down their answer. For each correct answer the team gets a point. The team with the most points when the game ends wins. I found that doing the game this way, each and every student participates. This prevents that one student from dominating the game. This is a fun way to review for a test. The PowerPoint is fully editable. This will allow you to modify the lesson to your individual classroom needs. (You cannot copy or modify any part of this lesson to offer others for free or for sale.) Quiz: Introduction to Physical Evidence & Forensic Odontology 8 Multiple choice type questions Answers are provided Quiz: Footwear Evidence, Tire Impressions, and Document Examination 8 Multiple choice type questions Answers are provided Test: Introduction to Physical Evidence, Forensic Odontology, Footwear Evidence, Tire Impressions, and Document Examination 26 Multiple choice type questions 4 Short answer type questions 2 Open response question Answers are included The Introduction to Physical Evidence, Forensic Odontology, Footwear Evidence, Tire Impressions, and Document Examination: Portfolio/Reflective Journal is an assessment tool where the STUDENT picks how they want to show you they have mastery of the subject. These are some suggestions: Make a collage Comprise a song or rap Construct a mobile Make a poster Assemble a scrap book Traditional answer in writing (in a "project" form) Other ideas you have (check with me first) This assignment can be an additional assessment for students or the main assessment used. Here are just 5 benefits of using social narratives with your students; They can help your students to understand different social situations. The story can break down social situations into smaller, more manageable parts. This can help students to understand the situation and what is expected of them. Social narratives can help to increase social interaction by teaching students different behaviors.
