It is native to the eastern, southeastern, and south-central parts of the United States, from eastern Texas to southern New Jersey. It grows in wetlands and prefers a damp, rich soil. Do not allow to dry out, although it tolerates drought better than Bidens laevis. Plant by sprinkling seeds over damp potting soil, do not cover with soil, mist lightly, then cover pot with Saran Wrap until germination, approx. 2-3 weeks. Perennial, after it flowers cut back stems and it will resprout with new growth many times over; flowers in mid fall though the winter and early spring. Attracts native pollinators.

Solidago leavenworthii is a PERENNIAL growing to 1.2 m (4ft). The species is pollinated by many different types of native Insects. It is noted for its ability in attracting wildlife. It is found naturally growing in damp pinelands, on edges of ditches, wetlands and in disturbed areas. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers a consistently moist but well drained soil but will tolerate periodic minor flooding and drought. To grow scatter seeds on top of damp potting soil, mist lightly…do not cover or bury seeds with soil. Keep germination pot in shady area and covered with Saran Wrap until germination occurs….usually around 2 weeks.
