Vorige week maakte ik deze goddelijke vegan pasta bolognese met wortel pappardelle. I know, klinkt enorm gezond he? En dat is het ook! De bolognesesaus barst van de vitamines en is daarnaast ook súper smaakvol. De gehakt vervangen we door een plantaardige vleesvervanger gemaakt van erwten en quinoa. Geloof mij, je zult het vlees echt […]

I used to love Rafaello so much, but I can’t eat it anymore, so I finally decided to make a raw vegan version! I can happily report, that my first attempt was a success and I can now enjoy (raw and vegan) Rafaello again! *does happy dance, screams and cries with happy tears*. To make the healthy version of Rafaello, you will need: -4 tbsp of raw coconut butter (I made my own with coconut flakes and coconut cream) -1 cup of shredded coconut -15 almonds (peeled or unpeeled) -3-4 tablespoons of agave nectar or honey (depending on how sweet you like it) -1 tsp vanilla bean paste -extra shredded coconut for coating OPTIONAL -If you buy coconut butter, you can skip this step, which was probably the most time consuming thing to do, even in the Vitamix. I threw in 200g of coconut flakes into the blender, added a splash of coconut cream and blended it for about 3 minutes - with breaks to stop and stir etc. The mixture was absolutely roasting at the end as well, so I would advise you to just order coconut butter online or get it in a health store. You will need 4 tbsp of it. INSTRUCTIONS: -Put your coconut butter (preferably creamy) in a food processor (I used the Vitamix again), add shredded coconut, agave nectar and vanilla bean paste and process until smooth. -Form little balls, with an almond inside and roll them in coconut flakes. -Put your healthy Rafaello bonbons in the fridge for 20-30 minutes and enjoy! TIPS: -You can experiment with the texture and sweetness, depending on how creamy and sweet you like it. You don't have to be very precise with the quantity of the ingredients either and you can always add a splash of coconut cream or more coconut butter etc to make the mixture slightly more sticky. (I realise that the cream I bought is not 100% clean, but I couldn't find anything else and I only used it, because I didn't have a jar of coconut butter) I also made a chocolate version for my husband, with added cocoa powder and Choc Shot Sauce. That's it - super easy raw vegan Rafaello bonbons! If you use coconut butter, it will take you about 10 minutes to make these and they will have a more creamy texture than my version. They are absolutely delicious! Do you love Rafaello? Are you excited to these? SHOP VITAMIX: Turn on your JavaScript to view content

As promised, here is the second part of my smoothie week :) You can read my first post, with my own smoothie recipes here. I only had two more days left, but I also wanted to share the recipes included in the little booklet I received from Alpro. I must admit, I was a bit sceptical about the beetroot concoction, but I gave it a go anyway to see, if it is tastes nice. I really enjoyed my #alproam (Alpro Almond Mornings) smoothie week and it made me realise how much I actually miss having a glass of fruity goodness every day. I usually drink a lot of smoothies in summer, but don't feel like having cold drinks in winter, so it was a nice change. I also got myself a juicer and started drinking freshly made vegetable juices every day and I am feeling very energised. I think I might do a juice and smoothie cleanse soon. I will make sure to share my experience on the blog :) Anyway... Here are the #alproam recipes suggested by Alpro UK. All of them are made with their Unsweetened Almond Milk. Remember, that you can use frozen ingredients for your smoothies. They are usually more nutritious than fresh supermarket options anyway! MONDAY: I made the 'Blue Monday Smoothie' for myself and my husband and we both loved it. It tastes like my favourite banana and spinach smoothie, but with added antioxidants from the blueberries. TUESDAY: WEDNESDAY: THURSDAY: I made the beetroot smoothie as well, but it was a bit too rich for my taste. I will probably use half a beetroot the next time. It tasted better than I expected though and the orange added a fresh twist to it. FRIDAY: SATURDAY: SUNDAY: Do you fancy trying any of the recipes included in the booklet? Would you try a beetroot or tomato smoothie? *I was kindly sent Alpro products and a gift bundle in exchange for my Alpro posts

So!

I've decided to start a series of 40s and 50s hair how-tos and this is my first one! These vintage type styles are definitely my favourite to do and also my favourite to wear. There are many, many different ways of doing Victory Rolls but as my first vintage hair tutorial I thought i'd do the simplest version! All you will need: - a few bobby-pins - a comb for teasing - some hair spray - pomade if desired 1. Firstly, part your hair to the side. The side which has the most hair on will be the bigger roll. 2. Lift that section of hair up and comb from the outside. Grabbing the hair, tease from the root to the middle. (never back-comb the ends as that's what causes the damage). 3. Taking the recently teased section, while holding the middle of the hair, flip it round into an upsidedown U shape, this is where you'll begin your victory roll! 4. This bit can be a little tricky, so don't feel disheartened if you're trying to do it for ages and your arms feel like they're going to fall off. (that's what happened to me more than once..!) Holding the hair make a circle. While making the circle work the hair inside the roll. Think of it like you're winding a bit of rope from the outside in. 5. Position it to where you want it. Here you can choose whether you want it small, big, neat, loose. It's entirely up to you! 6. Holding it with your finger in the spot you want it, grab a few bobby-pins and begin neatening it up and securing it in place. 7. Add a few more pins until you're satisfied and give it a little hair spray action. 8,9,10,11,12. Do exactly the same as you did on the first section and then you're done! Woohoo! The rest is up to you, you can wave the left over hair, you can pin it all up, add some flowers, do a chignon. There's so many possibilities haha. I hope you like the sound of the 40s and 50s hair tutorial series. I'm always looking for ideas so please let me know if you want me to do a certain hair style! Also if you try it, show me a picture of it, that would be ace! P.s You can do this hair-do with mostly any length hair. Love from Grace

The Trial of Dr. Kate by Michael E. Glasscock III SYNOPSIS: A doctor who can’t remember her crime. A reporter fighting for the story of her life. Two women at a crossroads in a town that never forgets. In the summer of 1952, Lillian Johnson was found dead in her home, slumped in the wheelchair that had become her cage due to multiple sclerosis. An overdose of barbiturate had triggered a heart attack, but the scene was not quite right. It looked as though someone other than Lillian herself had injected the fatal dose. Dr. Kate Marlow, Lillian’s physician and best friend, now sits in the Round Rock city jail. The only country doctor for miles, Kate cannot remember her whereabouts at the time of Lillian’s death and the small Tennessee town buzzes with judgment. As Dr. Kate’s trial approaches, another woman is determined to uncover the truth about the night of Lillian’s death. Memphis reporter Shenandoah Coleman grew up in Round Rock on the wrong side of the tracks, but unlike the rest of her unsavory clan, escaped her destiny. Now, back in the town she grew up in, she’ll have to turn every stone to keep Kate from a guilty verdict. The Trial of Dr. Kate is the second novel in a four-part series from Michael E. Glasscock III that explores the intricate social cloth of Round Rock, Tennessee. Though each story stands alone, readers who enjoyed Glasscock’s first Round Rock tale, Little Joe, will delight in the cameo appearances in this one. Having read the first book in this series and reviewed it on this blog, I was looking forward to the opportunity of reading this second one and thankful for the ebook copy received from the publishers to be able to read and review it; but unfortunately did not find it to be as interesting or as captivating. The characters were not as well developed and although there were relationships being formed throughout the novel this book did not seem to be as full of story and life as it's predecessor. Cameo appearances were mentioned in the synopsis but I can only remember one. As for the reporter "fighting for the story of her life"; well we hardly hear of her writing the story and things are really made very easy for her to gain access to everyone in the town for info on her story of the trial and very little mention is made of the other story she is writing. Having received the book free I did finish it but there were several breaks away from it. The ending was disappointing as it seemed to be rushed and then the added epilogue gave the impression that the author had felt that whole thing needed some closure. I actually was not that interested in what would have happened to the characters after the book ended because of not having felt the closeness to the characters that I had in the first story. The Trial of Dr. Kate by Michael E. Glasscock III http://www.michaeleglasscockiii.com/ Book 2 in the Round Rock Series Published by Greenleaf Book Group Press Released in Oct 2013 Have you read this or any others in the series? I would love to know if you agreed or disagreed with my view of this one. Disclaimer: I would like to state here that although I did receive a free copy of the ebook this review is completely my own opinion of the book and was not written to any deadline for the publishers.

One of the best ways to make our work in the kitchen less of a hassle is really to make it easier to do or quicker to do or both. One way to do this is to have some simple but very practical tools. I have picked out 5 things that I automatically think of when I am considering what I use often or a lot of to make things easier for me around the house. Yes these are 5 Things I Don't Think I want to have to do Without. 1. Clip-its Both IKEA and Lakeland have really good sturdy clip-its and in a good variety of sizes. However you can buy them almost anywhere now but they may not be just as good a grip. How can we seal many bags without some of these??? USES Bread bags Bags in freezer Large crisp bags 2. Long Handled Spoons LAKELAND sell them but I have also bought them from pound stores I have some that are bent so that they will sit on the edge of a mug or glass and some that are plain but I also have 2 (not pictured here) that I got in South Korea that have a larger wider spoon part whereas the others are more of a teaspoon size. Who doesn't need something with a long handle to do some scooping??? USES Tall glass ice cream sundaes Large coffee mugs Getting to the bottom of jars of jam etc. 3. Kitchen Scissors LAKELAND, IKEA, Pound stores and any supermarket now. Different colours and sizes available, but do get ones with a good comfortable grip because if you get hooked like me you will use them constantly. Who doesn't have lots of occasions when it is so much easier to cut with scissors than to chop with a knife??? Well Not Tomatoes anyway! USES Lots of meats and vegetables are actually easier to cut using the scissors than a knife. So convenient for cutting foods into foods already cooking on the stove. Also how else do you open those horrible strong plastic bags that seem to stretch as you try to pull them apart? 4. Silicone Basting Brushes LAKELAND and also in pound stores. The round ones I have found to be softer and more flimsy. But the flat ones I absolutely adore. Who wants to battle with pieces of greased proof paper or kitchen towels to try to grease items??? USES Oiling and basting roasts Putting lime or lemon juice on fish Spreading jam or any other similar mixture on cakes etc. Greasing dishes. 5. Resealable Bags IKEA have the best and at such a good price. These ones seal easily and well not like some others you can find other places. They have two different boxes you can buy with two different sizes of bag in each so between all four sizes you are equipped for just about any eventuality. Great to have bags that seal so well that the contents don't leak over everything else in the fridge or freezer and bags that can be reused over and over again. USES DIY accessories like screws. Transporting any type of food stuffs. I have never tried soup in one but thicker foodstuffs are fine. Freezer use as well as fridge use. I reckon you could tell me of a few things you don't want to have to do without either. If so let me know in a comment.
