National guidelines for what bus stop flags should look like are a relatively recent phenomenon, and when Greater Manchester's main towns each had their own bus operator it was usually a clear guide to whose boundaries you had entered. Salford's bus stops were green and cream, like its buses, and were seen across the city but also in the smaller council areas where Salford had an agreement to provide services such as Swinton, Eccles, Prestwich and Whitefield. This particular stop was on Lower Broughton Road in Salford, and lasted well into the mid-1970s long after Salford City Transport itself had ceased to exist.
