The subject this week for the 52Frames photo challenge was “rule of thirds.” My photos have not been selected in the top 52 for quite some time - even though many the comments are most complimentary - it doesn’t seem to matter. After all, it is a contest of sorts and it is nice to get selected. However, since about April of this year when a fellow framer pointed out to me that my photo was trending on the main page website, my photos have consistently trended since then. It usually occurs on the day after the album opens, sometimes sooner. And it stays trending for about 8 hours or so. I think it has a lot to do with the number of likes it gets. I’ve spent a lot of time building up a base of fellow framers who live all over the world. Additionally this is a great hobby that keeps me occupied in so many ways. The subject matter dictates where we will go on a morning walk in search of something that might work. This subject took us to downtown DC near the White House. This image of the tattooed couple was my husband’s favorite. Sometimes I should overrule his choice even though it is usually right. Several people said they preferred the alternate to this one. Maybe that would have made the difference? Probably not.
In my taste finding expedition, I’ve found myself being drawn to more complex and narrative pieces which juggle multiple elements. I’ve always loved looking for structure in whatever I’m loo…
When taking pictures of knitting, framing your photograph is a crucial step in making sure you tell your story well. Here are some tips.
A fun take on traditional color-blocking, the Rule of Thirds Sweater is an intarsia knit perfect for a gradient or statement color combo. It’s got gently tapered sleeves and a thick crewneck, and it’s worked up in hyper-fluffy yarn. This sweater is knitted in a mixture of flat panels and working in the round. We begin by casting on for the body panel hem before starting the main intarsia pattern and working our way up through some neckline shaping. We’ll repeat this for a second panel. From there, we’ll seam the shoulders and pick up stitches for a ribbed collar. From there, it’s ~sleeve island, bb~! We’ll shape the tapered sleeves with simple, routine decreases that are nice and easy to keep track of! Fast forward a handful of repeats, and we’ve reached our breezy ribbed cuffs, designed to fit loosely over the wrists. At some point, you’ll seam down the sides of the body, too. And there you have it! Any bulky-weight yarn will work here! You’ll need 4-10 skeins total at 150 yards apiece depending on size. All yarn and notion information can be found in the pattern! Tested by @sarahlizknits, @wipsbykayla, and others!!
