Relief Society Visiting Teaching Message Ideas for April 2017: Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood My Thoughts: I just have to say what an immense blessing the priesthood is!! Just sitting here, I have been thinking about all of the ways my life has been enriched and blessed because the priesthood keys have been restored to the earth! Everything that is done within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is by way of the priesthood. The power to organize this church and translate the Book of Mormon was done so through those keys and power restored to the Prophet Joseph Smith. My own life was immediately blessed, by the priesthood. I was born into a family where, my parents were sealed in one of God's holy temples. Making it, so once I was born I was born in the covenant and sealed to them as a forever family. My father holding the Melchizedek priesthood was able to give me a name and a blessing as a baby and preside over our home. Then, when I turned eight years old I made the decision to join this church and again my father was able to use the priesthood which he had been ordained to use to baptize me and confirm me a member of the church. Having been confirmed and given the great gift of the Holy Ghost as a constant companion has greatly blessed my life. Throughout my membership in this church the blessings of the priesthood have been through every aspect of my life. I've grown to look forward to attending church, to be counseled and taught, as well as to renew my baptismal covenants, through partaking of the sacrament. Another huge blessing and event in my life was making the ultimate oath and covenant with the Lord and my husband, as we were sealed and bound together for all eternity. This marriage and sealing covenant I take very seriously. It is what binds my husband and children to me. It blesses and strengthens my life. Another place where I have felt the incredible blessings and power of the priesthood is as I have served in callings. When we are called of God and set apart, we are done so under the direction of the priesthood and by priesthood power and authority. I rely on that in my callings. Knowing that I can receive guidance and revelation for my calling and those I have stewardship over is huge! I know that as we keep our covenants that we make with our Father in Heaven, our lives will be blessed. We will be able to have the influence of the Holy Ghost in our lives and our lives will be enriched! We can all be partakers of the priesthood as we make those sacred covenants with our Heavenly Father! ***************************** Sometimes it's fun to give our sisters something when we go and visit them! Relief Society Visiting Teaching Message Ideas for January 2018: Keep In Touch with Her Anytime, Anywhere, Any Way My Thoughts: I love that the focus in Visiting Teaching is on ministering to each other as sisters. As I have thought about this, my thoughts have turned to my Savior. He is the prime example of how to minister unto others. He truly loved those who he served, he was never too busy. We too can follow our Savior's example and love those whom we visit. This month I thought it would be fun to get to know the sisters that we visit. So the sister I go with and I each brought something we enjoy. I brought a bottled water and a true lemon packet and she brought some delicious cookies and a recipe for them. I loved that as sisters we were able to get to know each other a little better. They learned I don't drink carbonation and love some flavored water. I learned that my companion loves to cook. And we both learned some great things about the sisters we visit, things they they enjoy to do. Part of ministering is being a friend and getting to know each other. We really have so much to share with each other, talents, thoughts, abilities, etc!! Oh and I love this quote from this month's message: "Making personal connections and listening with an attitude of love is the essence of visiting teaching." ***************************** If you'd like a little get to know you questionnaire to give the sisters you visit, I made one up: (Since I am late getting this out... You can totally use this any of the other months) You could give it to them and have them fill it out, or you could just use the questions as prompts to talk about when you visit them. Or you could even send it to them in a text. I hope these ideas have been helpful. I know I'm incredibly late posting these, but they are just too cute to not share. I'll be honest when I heard there would be no more visiting teaching I got a little sad. I look forward to making and sharing these with you and (when I have my act together) sharing them with the sweet women I get to visit teach. So I'm going to keep sharing ideas each month, and probably a few extra knowing me and my brain. I'll try to include a mix of religious/LDS themes and quotes and a few general so you can give them to anyone no matter if it's someone in your family (siblings, husband, child, parents, grandparents) or friends (neighbors, ward members, people with shared callings, etc.)! When I think of April I obviously think of April Showers! This little note is perfect for those little "drop" bys. I think it would be so cute to give your favorite body wash and a luffa for something little for their shower. You can find these in the travel section at Walmart or Target for only a dollar or two. The great thing about this idea is that it can be paired with lots of different inexpensive items. Like a little bag of lemon drops or other yellow candy. THESE old fashioned lemon drops are SO good! Of One Heart Before I get into all the adorable details for this months visiting teaching message I wanted to thank you all for your support on the giveaway I had this week! Everyone that entered and checked out those amazing Etsy Shops are such sweethearts! Thank you for your support and a huge congrats to Sarah Osborne on being the lucky winner! Seriously I'm jealous! haha This months Visiting Teaching message is all about becoming one with one another. This means that by showing love, compassion and accepting others we become closer to each other and we are able to please our Father in heaven by doing what he has had planned for us all along. We grow closer to each other when we share each others burdens and show kindness no matter what they may be going through. This month I was inspired by the book, The Crayon Box that Talked By Shane DeRolf. I love the simplicity of this book and that no matter how young or old, everyone can relate to this book and learn something from it. It's a book about a box of crayons that don't get along with each other. A little girl hears their conversation and buys the box and goes home to color the prettiest picture. Only after they all work together, they see how needed and important each one of them really is. I love this part of the book, "We are like a box of crayons. Each one of us unique. But when we get together...The picture is complete." So with Back to School in full swing the theme just fit! I think it would be such a fun gift to give the sisters you visit teach-the book with this little tag or calendar, but if you wanted other options I have loads more too! Like these adorable little crayon decorations that are in the clearance Dollar Bins at Target. I got mine for 50 cents, but I've heard they've dropped even lower. Or if you've been giving the calendar every month like my cute Grandma, you could give these little pencil clips just attach a magnet to the back. Or just give them the printout so they can put it in their IKEA frame. I feel like everyone always love art supplies, and giving crayons with this message is a no brainer! All of these items were less then $4 and the lowest was only about 20 cents. I love the option of the crayon Twistables. Super cute and easy to use! Pair your choice of crayons or colored pencils with this super cute little coloring book all about how we can become 'Of One Heart." Not feeling the actual crayons? They have the cutest new nail polish that would go perfectly with this theme! The perfect collaboration with Sally Hansen and Crayola! Give them their favorite color so they'll love it even more! If you're feeling a little crafty I have the cutest idea for you! I found more crayons at Dollar Tree and grab a container while you're there. They had glass ones too if you'd prefer that. Then just hot glue the crayons around the side of your container and you have the cutest little gift to give! I seriously think it's the cutest thing. If you use a glass container you could put fresh flowers in, but I opted for cardboard and fake flowers! So many adorable options! What is your favorite!? A Fun Handout Idea and Printable Focused on JOY, Great for Ministering, Teacher or Leadership Training & So Much More, This pandemic sure has made us become accustomed to change. I currently, serve in our Stake Primary Presidency. Normally at this time we would have already done our summer visits with all of our wards, we would have trained our new primary presidencies, we would be sitting and listening to beautifully inspiring sacrament meeting programs and we would have done home visits for ward conferences. We have missed being about to do all of these things, we love our Primary presidencies and Primary children!! Normally in November, we would hold leadership training with all of our presidency members. This year we decided to split it up so we could properly social distance. We felt it vital to meet, to express our love and support and have the presidencies share any concerns and questions, as well as ideas. Our president, found this quote from President Nelson, that we thought was just perfect to handout to our Primary Presidencies and Choristers. I love it! The quote comes from a beautiful talk from October 2016 General Conference titled, "Joy and Spiritual Survival". We know that in this life we are going to experience hardships, we will get uncomfortable, our circumstances might not be ideal, but through it all, we can have Joy, as we focus on our Savior!! Another quote from the talk is, "For Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is joy!" I whole heartedly believe this!! I wanted to share the printable we used on the blog. It's such an important message, especially in the world we live in today. There is hope and we can have joy!! Click the Free Download Button below for the free printable. I have loved coming up with new love notes/ministering messages each month, you've probably noticed that I can't just pick one! :/ Hopefully it will give you lots of options though! This month has been full of sunlight and sunshine! Even if it hasn't been full of some sun for you this is the perfect pick me up for you or a friend. This quote from President Hinckley has always been one of my favorites. How often do we focus on our problems or sadness instead of focusing on our blessings? There is so much joy to be had on this earth and it will help us so much more to focus on the positive! These tags can be paired with so many different things! I was thinking Sunny D gummies, lemon candies, any yellow candy, or even sunglasses. Have you tried these Sparkling Ice drinks? They are actually really good and perfect for a hot day! Our sister's in our church monthly visits our sisters and present a spiritual message and check on their personal welfare. This month's is on Marriage is ordained of God. After reading the message this is a handout idea that came to mind. As a couple works individually towards the Lord, they also get closer to each other. This handout is interactive and shows how they achieve this. You can use this idea for your visiting teaching if you wish. First I cut a piece of blue card stock in half longwise. Then I die cut a heart out where I wanted the fold line to be. I did not want to cut through the whole way so I positioned my cut plate only over the part I wanted to cut. I then folded at the bottom of the cut out. This left a space at the bottom back that was longer than the front, this is because the people attatched later kind of hang down past the edge. I then used a die to cut out figures representing a man and a woman. I copied the part of the message that went with his handout and pasted to the inside of the card On the cover of the card I punch 3 holes using a 1/16th inch hole punch as shown in image. I then punched two holes in each figure as shown. They are slightly angled on purpose as they will be sliding up the string on an angle. I then cut string about 18 inches long and threaded through the top holes in a figure try to center mid way on string then thread top piece through hole on top of card and the lower piece through the bottom side hole on card turn card over and pull string end towards top of card trying to keep them even tie in a knot at the top hole as shown then pull leftover string towards bottom of card and knot off two pieces together this will be your pull cord to lift figure closer to the lord. I then made a small tab to put over to keep it on the side of each person so the strings didn't get tangled. Thread other figure onto card as done for first figure but on the other side of card, going through the same top hole. Finish off the same as for first string Turn card over and gently pull figures to the bottom of the card I then used a small piece of pop up adhesive to attach a heart to each figure, being careful to NOT cover the string Then I printed a small image of the Savior , die cut it out with a circle punch and attached it to the front of a larger heart On the back of this heart I added several pop ups and then adhered to top of card, centering inside the die cut card base heart and being careful, again, not to stick to the strings. You can now pull on the strings and see the figures move towards the Savior and also get closer to each other. This is them both at the top To pull them back down turn card face over and slide knot back to the top. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. It has been a while since I posted, Thanks, Tammy

The Visiting Teaching Message for May is to be selected from one of the talks given in our most recent General Conference. I loved Elder Cook's "Parable of the Purse", and knew I wanted to make a lesson aid centered on this sweet story: When I was recently assigned to a conference in the Mission Viejo California Stake, I was touched by an account of their four-stake New Year’s Eve youth dance. Following the dance, a purse was found with no outside identification. I share with you part of what Sister Monica Sedgwick, the Young Women president in the Laguna Niguel stake, recorded: “We didn’t want to pry; this was someone’s personal stuff! So we gingerly opened it and grabbed the first thing that was on top—hopefully, it would identify her. It did, but in another way—it was a For the Strength of Youth pamphlet. Wow! This told us something about her. Then we reached in for the next item, a little notebook. Surely this would give us answers, but not the kind we were expecting. The first page was a list of favorite scriptures. There were five more pages of carefully written scriptures and personal notes.” The sisters immediately wanted to meet this stalwart young woman. They returned to that purse to identify its owner. They pulled out some breath mints, soap, lotion, and a brush. I loved their comments: “Oh, good things come out of her mouth; she has clean and soft hands; and she takes care of herself.” They eagerly awaited the next treasure. Out came a clever little homemade coin purse made from a cardboard juice carton, and there was some money in a zippered pocket. They exclaimed, “Ahh, she’s creative and prepared!” They felt like little children on Christmas morning. What they pulled out next surprised them even more: a recipe for Black Forest chocolate cake and a note to make the cake for a friend’s birthday. They almost screamed, “She’s a HOMEMAKER! Thoughtful and service minded.” Then, yes, finally some identification. The youth leaders said they felt greatly blessed “to observe the quiet example of a young lady living the gospel.” 6 This account illustrates the commitment of our young women to Church standards. 7 It is also an example of caring, interested, dedicated Young Women leaders all over the world. They are incredible! This experience made me think about what I carry in my "purse"; what things I surround myself with and how ready I am to be an example and to serve at any given moment. With this in mind, I made a paper bag purse filled with activities and little surprises that help us live "the parable of the purse". To make your own you will need the following: 3 paper lunch sacks (white or kraft) 2 pieces coordinating scrapbook paper ribbon for handle button or other embellishment sticker sheet band-aids gum First take your 3 paper bags and lay them on top of each other, alternating the open ends and the ends with the flaps. Fold the bags in half and stitch together with a sewing machine right down the middle. You could also try stapling or hole punching (and tying the ribbon handle through the holes to keep it all together). Fold your bags in half then glue scrapbook paper on the front and back of the purse. I used the end with the fold on it as the front of my purse. Next trim out the interior pages of the purse from the free download, and adhere. The first page of the download has a strip of words to be trimmed out separately as tags. Cut them out as rectangles with extra space in front of the words. I then used a small hole punch so I could thread the tags onto paper clips. I happened to have these fun circular clips, but regular office supply paperclips work great as well. These will identify the meaning of the goodies in our paper bag purse, as well as keep them from falling out of its pockets. The first pocket contains a sheet of stickers, and is clipped shut with the tag reading, "to cheer". I thought it would be handy to have some fun stickers to cheer up a friend with a letter, or to stick on a child's hand or nose when a distraction is needed. See a struggling parent in church or at the grocery store? Perhaps a sticker or two for the child will calm things for a small moment. The next pages are blank to write down favorite scriptures and thoughts or journaling. After that we have a birthday calendar, to record friends' and family's birthdays for the year - a nice place to be reminded of a special time to show a little extra love. I put some band-aids in the pocket behind this page closed with the tag that reads, "to comfort". Paper cuts and skinned knees can be soothed in an instant! The next pages are a couple of my family's favorite recipes - perfect comfort food. The last top page has the lyrics to the hymn, "As Sisters in Zion", along with comments made by Elder Cook in his talk. The bottom page has some tear-away compliments to give to oneself or another person needing a smile! Cut the strips along the dotted lines, then glue just the top portion to the paper sack. Behind this are some pieces of gum in a pocket closed with the tag that reads, "to speak sweetly", reminding us to be kind and gentle in all that we say. Now it's time to put the finishing touches on the paper bag purse. Cut a flap shape from coordinating scrapbook paper that will go over the top and partially down the front and back of the folded purse. I first used double-sided tape to adhere my ribbon to the underside of this flap. I then glued the flap to the purse and embellished with flowers and a button faux closure. Hope you enjoy these paper bag purses, and the parable behind them!

Relief Society Visiting Teaching Message Ideas for October 2017: Enfolding with Love Those Who Stray My Thoughts: I really have a special place in my heart for this month's visiting teaching message! When I was serving as a Primary President, I attended a meeting where it was said that President Monson, is not just the prophet for the church, but rather for the whole world. So, that also means that as leaders everyone in our ward boundaries is under our care, whether members of the church or not. This message really hit me. It made me look at my calling in a whole new light. That all primary children in my ward boundaries were under my care, my love for them grew and I wanted nothing more then for them to feel that love and inclusion. Since then, this is how I have tried to serve in my callings. Our Heavenly Father truly loves all of His children, He desires all of them to receive the blessings that He has in store for them. I love this scripture: "No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—" (D&C 121:41-42) The key to this life is to see others as sons and daughters of God. We are each given our agency. Our friends, family members, neighbors, etc all have the opportunity to choose for themselves. We though can have a profound influence as we stay true to our values and covenants. As we love them, stick by them, support them and treat them with kindness. It doesn't mean we agree with their choices, but their choices don't have an effect on our love for them. It doesn't change the fact that they are God's children, nor His love for them, which is perfect. I would like to end with this beautiful message from President Eyring, “I have prayed with faith that someone I loved would seek and feel the power of the Atonement. I have prayed with faith that human angels would come to their aid, and they came. “God has devised means to save each of His children.” (Oct 2017 VT Message) I too testify this to be true, sometimes it takes a lot of patience and long suffering. But if we are praying and loving then our Heavenly Father will help us. He will never take away someones will, but He will help in softening a heart. ***************************** Sometimes it's fun to give our sisters something when we go and visit them! That They May Be One I love the message for this month! All about recognizing and accepting the Lord's will for us and then listening and obeying. When I first read this message I continuously thought of the Mormon Pioneers. In Utah we celebrate their lives and example on the 24th of July, because that was the day they entered the valley so many years ago. I can think of countless examples of each saint choosing to accept the will of the Lord no matter how hard it would be on them, or what was in store for them. So no matter if you live in Utah or not I think July is a perfect month to celebrate these amazing pioneers. I think as Latter Day Saints we all share a bond with these early saints. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. -The Living Christ Call me crazy, but whenever I think of pioneer treats I think of taffy; and the taffy at Chocolate Covered Wagon is perfectly old fashioned and delicious. They have so many flavors like cinnamon, pina colada, banana, blue raspberry and vanilla walnut-just to name a few! Grab a bag of this fun mix of taffy and fill these adorable pails with them add a little bandana liner and you are good to go. Or if you're still on the calendar train, pop this little printable (found below) in your IKEA frame with some fresh new ribbon. An adorable old fashioned magnet would be super cute if you're doing the magnets or any fourth of July magnet would work perfectly too! Or wrap them all up in one big bandana for a treat for the whole family! I also wanted to share some pioneer stories with my visiting teaching sisters so they could have specific examples. Add this to your handout and let them read these short stories throughout the month. As we endeavor day by day and week by week to follow the path of Christ, our spirits asserts its preeminence, the battle within subsides, and temptations cease to trouble.
