Rewheeled #5 The Bike Shed
Most custom bikes lead pretty easy lives. Even scramblers and dirt trackers are likely to spend more time on road than off. But this tough Yamaha XT 600 is the real deal—built to follow a rally team through North Africa. It belongs to Boy Janssen, who recently swapped the streets of Amsterdam for a quieter life in the Dutch countryside. 'Some people thought we were crazy, but the move made perfect sense for us,' he says. 'We're in the middle of the best back roads, and living in a house with a workshop.' Boy is now building bikes full time,

One of the most exciting limited production bikes is the Zaeta 530 DT from Italy. So far, it’s been confined to the dirt track—but it will soon be available in road-legal scrambler and café racer configurations. Powered by a DOHC single built by TM, the Zaeta is nimble and fast, weighing around 115kg (250lbs). These images show the latest incarnation of the bike. It has a new aluminum frame—three kilos lighter than the previous tube design—and improved rear suspension geometry. To get the bike productionized and road legal, Zaeta founders Paolo Chiaia and Marco Belli have joined forces with builder

For its latest build, Cafe Racer Dreams has taken a break from Triumph Bonnevilles. The Spanish workshop has turned its attention to the vintage BMW R-series—namely, the 749 cc R75/5 boxer. Now owned by Valéry from Paris, this 1971 model is a thorough resto-mod in the increasingly popular scrambler style. And it looks simply gorgeous. CRD rebuilt '#14' from the ground up with the help of local BMW specialists MaxBOXER. They created a new rear frame, a matching custom seat and lightweight fenders. The sump is protected by a custom-made guard that will brush off obstacles while offroading. The suspension
The Yamaha TT600, introduced in 1983, was one of the very first 600cc single-cylinder enduros -- a lighter, more aggressive off-road variant of the XT600. Said Yamaha at the time:"Yamaha TT600 - For people who climb over mountains, not go around them."In 1993, after ten years of production,

Here’s the latest custom to roll out of the Madrid workshop of Cafe Racer Dreams. Once again, there’s an off-road influence—but this time, the Spanish workshop has taken a dirt bike and realigned it for road use, rather than the other way round. Under the hood, there's not much difference between the Triumph Bonneville and Scrambler. Other than their firing intervals (the Scrambler has a 270-degree crank for extra 'thump'), the bikes are mainly separated by styling cues. Which means that, with a few well-placed mods, a stock Bonnie can be made as dirt-worthy as a Scrambler. Or more so—as is the case with this fire-road-blitzing number from our favorite Swedish surf-moto crew, 6/5/4 Motors. The Stockholm shop's client was bored with his stock 2007 Triumph, and wanted something more suitable to off-road excursions. So he brought it in for an overhaul. “He
