Diamond Ripples Quilt Pattern by Meghan of Then Came June. This pattern is great to display your favorite color tones and create movement in a quilt. The pattern comes in a solid and a scrappy version. It is an awesome scrap buster too if you choose the scrappy version! And each version also includes square and rectangle options in baby and throw sizes. The pattern gives yardage and FQ requirements depending on what size and version you choose. Pattern assumes the quilter has advanced beginner to intermediate sewing skills. **This is a downloadable PDF, being instantly delivered to your email after your purchase is complete. Your download will only be available a limited amount of times, please remember to save on the computer instead of on a phone. Feel free to print out as 8.5"x11". The PDF includes a color it yourself quilt diagram! Pattern is for one person use only. Do not copy, redistribute or sell. You may sell quilts made using this pattern on a small independent scale. Please credit the quilt pattern to Then Came June. The Colors used in the Cover Quilt are all Kona Cotton: White, Shell, Bellini, Silver, Ash, Steel and Charcoal.

In a world of hustle and bustle, silence seems like a reduction in man- made noise: no car engines or buses or motorbikes, no horns or music blaring, no screaming children or adults, no loud talking on cell phones. When these are all reduced we say that it is quiet when actually there are probably still a lot of sounds around: insects buzzing, birds singing, wind blowing, rain splattering, waves crashing. We often find these sounds soothing and relaxing. Whether in the midst of man-made or natural sounds, the sounds most difficult to block out are those within our own minds. For many of us there is a running commentary continuously playing in our head and this is the most difficult place to find silence. And yet there is no true silence without the ability to interrupt the monologue in our mind. In this quilt I have attempted to convey the idea of inner silence. The bohdi leaf represents the spirit which is floating noiselessly on the surface of a pond, perhaps a meditation image to focus on when seeking inner silence.

Welcome to everyone here for the Modern Appliqué Illusions Blog Tour! I enjoyed getting to know author Casey York over lunch at Quilting LIVE in Atlanta, right before the book debuted, and I’m pleased (but not surprised) to report that her book is equally enjoyable. The illusions Casey explores in Modern Appliqué Illusions are those that lend a sense of perspective to the flat surface of a quilt. She explores the concept through lots of different techniques and approaches, which makes for plenty of inspiration. Casey is absolutely the right person to present these ideas—her solid grounding in art history enriches and contextualizes the technique discussions. She interprets classic methods of perspective from Western art in fabric and thread rather than paint or ink, and I really enjoyed learning about the theoretical background while seeing the ideas put to use in quilts. I was also struck that, though this is first and foremost a book about appliqué, Casey goes into detail about how she also uses quilting to enhance the appliquéd perspective effects. So often quilting instructions stop at “quilt as desired,” but Casey, for example, gives precise dimensions for how to plan the radiating quilting for Tunnel Vision (shown above) while explaining the underlying concepts so you can adapt them to your own designs. The perspective-quilting techniques are easily achieved on a domestic machine, as Casey shows by quilting many of the book’s projects herself, which I always appreciate from quilt-book authors. In a quilt like River Bend, I love that the appliqué, fabric choices, and quilting all contribute to the overall composition as well as the sense of perspective, turning a relatively simple quilt into much more. The general rule of thumb is that quilting shouldn’t cross over appliqués, but Casey’s quilt Ripples is a great example of why rules of thumb aren’t set in stone: she quilted concentric circles to suggest ripples on the surface of the water above the koi, which is a fantastic way to reinforce the sense of depth introduced by the appliquéd shadows. That only scratches the surface of Casey’s ideas for bringing perspective into your appliqué, so make sure to check out the book for more! (You can get signed copies from Casey’s shop.) Or leave a comment below for a chance to win a free copy—just tell me what interests you most about appliqué, perspective, or both before the end of Monday, 11/17/2014, Pacific Time, and I’ll draw a winner at random. (The printed book giveaway is open to US addresses only, but non-US residents are welcome to enter for a chance to win an e-book copy.) Entries are closed. Congratulations to commenter number 3, Janie, the winner! I’ll be in touch by e-mail shortly. Stop by Casey’s blog (she’s talking about her Grove quilt today, which has more interesting quilting to suggest rounded tree trunks) as well as the rest of the blogs on the tour—GenQ is up tomorrow! 11/10: C&T Publishing 11/11: Jenifer Dick/42 Quilts 11/12: Debbie Grifka/Esch House Quilts 11/13: Pink Chalk Studio 11/14: Shannon Brinkley/Bottle Tree 11/15: Pellon 11/16: Kevin Kosbab/Feed Dog Designs ← You are here 11/17: Generation Q Magazine 11/18: Krista Robbins/Sew What's Cooking? 11/19: Fat Quarter Shop/Jolly Jabber 11/20: Violet Craft

This quilt was juried into QuiltCon 2024! This quilt is minimal and subtle. It is the last in the series exploring pintucking and quilting. For this quilt, I topstitched two contrasting threads on the face of the pintucks. Then by adding the twist when the pintucks were sewn down, the colors appear and disappear. All my quilts are original designs, created, and sewn by me. They are numbered and labeled on the back with a tube for hanging.

Today, I would have been greeting Laura and Charlotte, just a couple of my students, to my Flutter class at the Garden of Quilts event but as you are aware, there are no classes, lectures, demos or trunk shows this year (above picture taken at LAST year's Garden of Quilts event). Flutter is such a fun, happy and lively design that we patterned with Hidden Shoofly as part of our TWO Designs in ONE Pattern concept!! Do you want to know why? If you look closely at the Flutter block, you'll see the Hidden Shoofly block right in the center! Its the simple ADDITION of Quick Angled Rectangles to the top, bottom and sides of the Hidden Shoofly block that creates the Flutter block! Do you see it now? Pretty neat, huh?!!! I may not be teaching my Flutter class today but I do have Gem Stone Brights Flutter kits available here! Flutter typically takes a Fat Quarter bundle but we wanted you to experience the FULL color range of the Gem Stones Brights prints. Your kit will consist of 1/3 yard EACH of ALL the Gem Stones Brights prints plus background and binding! As you can see from the Flutter blocks above, the color shifts in tone and in others, the color shifts to a different color all adding to the charm and beauty of Flutter! If bright and white is not your cup of tea, we are also offering Flutter in our original Gem Stone prints on black ground here! Until next week, Happy "Flutter" Quilting! Gerri
