Floral designer Louesa Roebuck shows you how to make transcendent eco-luxe compositions with seasonal flora foraged from the West Coast.Foreword by Obi Kaufmann, bestselling author of The California Field Atlas“The way of the flowers” has been studied for centuries, but as acclaimed author, artist, and floral designer Louesa Roebuck demonstrates, one needs to understand the rules in order to bend them. In Punk Ikebana, Louesa composes stunning arrangements and installations that unite the cultural traditions and elegance of Japanese perspective with exhilarating freedom from convention.Working with seasonally foraged, gleaned, and sourced flora from various regions of California, Louesa reveals how cinematic floral sculptures can be created by embracing the abundance right outside your door. Inviting nature’s often-overlooked treasures into your space means improvising in a moment of time, in a particular place. Exuberant compositions are created with what is on hand, establishing a harmonious dialogue with the flora, space, color, vessels, and textiles readily available. Aligning her deep commitment to the environment with her love of foraging, gleaning, and sourcing regionally, Louesa inspires you to cultivate your own vision and invite the wonders of the natural world into your home. Lakis Mouratidis
This is a supplementary activity for your Charters of Rights and Freedoms unit. Once you have introduced the Charter follow up with this search and find puzzle. It comes with the jumbled illustrations puzzle, a matching worksheet (match the freedoms and rights with the descriptions in the chart) and a bonus activity. See the preview for a look at all the student pages. How to Use: Distribute both the picture search and the worksheet (bonus chart as well, if you wish). Have students match the freedoms and rights with the descriptions in the chart. Then, students search to find illustrated examples of each right and freedom listed and number them using the numbers next to each matched right and freedom in the chart. They should be encouraged to find the very best examples of each. Bonus Activity: Students sort the pictures into the regions of Canada that each represents. Note that there may be more than one correct way to complete the chart. Comments, Questions, Suggestions? Contact me at [email protected].

This is one of my favorite books to use in my quilt social studies unit that I teach to my second grade class! This story written by Deborah Hopkinson depicts the life of a young slave that creates a quilt to secretly tell the way to freedom. My product includes vocabulary printables that can help review the words that might need a little explaining before reading. The unit also includes a page of pre-reading questions that I like to use for morning work. It kind of jumpstarts the conversations between students predicting what the story will be about. Follow that with a three-page study guide or comprehension review with short answer questions. Also included are two extended writing worksheets. My new addition is a homework sheet. Have you ever had a hard time trying to think of meaningful things that your students can do for homework? My homework sheet plans your homework for you. Students will have a choice each night between two assignments. Some are more hands on, but I tried to leave one option for students to do on their own if parents aren't available to help. The other option is slightly harder but the option for the typical student that wants to learn a little more and has the ability to research. Enjoy Everyone! We've been learning in Social Studies about how slaves secretly communicated with each other. One cool way they did this was by making a freedom quilt. Each patch has a special meaning and when the quilt is sewn together it tells slaves how to escape on the Underground Railroad. You all did a great job making our quilt!

"Woman, Life, Freedom" in Farsi "Zan, Zindagi, Azadi" is a slogan that originated within the women-led Kurdish movements. This slogan transcended its initial context and garnered global recognition. The phrase rapidly became a universal rallying cry, symbolizing resistance against oppression and the fight for women's rights. The origin of the slogan can be traced to the Kurdish freedom movement of the late twentieth century. It was first used by the Women's Protection Units in Kurdish mountains in early 2000.
