Shot by Steve Marais at Berlin’s Teufelssee with giant mermaid Frieder Sell, the series pays homage to the rich heritage of LGBTQIA+ individuals who have sought and still seek solace and connection at this picturesque little lake, tucked away in the Grunewald forest. Shooting in this queer safe space invites reflection on the interplay between societal norms and free self-expression, and perhaps fosters a deeper understanding of love and inclusivity.

In mathematics, a knot is any embedding of a circle into 3-D Euclidean space, R3. Think of it as taking a piece of string, tying and twisting it up however you like (without passing the string through itself or cutting it), and then gluing the ends together. It is the same as a common knot, except the ends are stuck together creating a closed loop. In the same way a prime number is not divisible by any number other than 1 and itself, a prime knot cannot be decomposed as a connected sum of nontrivial knots. I associate different knots with different variations of the traditional Chinese tune, quot;Jasmine Flower.quot; Variations, fresh takes on something old, create interest and beauty-- in math, music, and life. I hope you enjoy my music and would love to hear from you: [email protected] Artist Bio: Stephanie Chou's compositions combine elements from classical and Chinese music with jazz harmonies. “See Naples and die,” Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe of _Faust_ fame espoused in his book _Italian Journey_ in 1786. Leaving behind his claustrophobic fame, his duties as Privy Councillor in the Duchy of Weimar and a long-term flirtation, Goethe, like many rich men of his day, travelled to Naples as part of a Grand Tour and found the city so beautiful, so opulent, that he knew that he would die without regret after visiting its shores. That and the fact that there was hella debauchery going on.
