Yesterday, I showed you a card with THE Perfect Bow! I want to tell you how easy it is ... Because none of my cards or bows are perfect I call it the EZY BOW! Here's how I tie my bows: You need about 40cm for wide ribbon like this, only about 25 cm for ribbon half as wide like the 1" satin ribbon I showed you last time. 1. Wrap the piece of ribbon around your two fingers (hold them as if you were playing: scissors, paper, rock) with the short end of the ribbon at the front. 2. Bring the long end up and through the holes made by your first and second fingers. 3. Wrap it around behind and to the right. Leave your thumb in place under the loop of ribbon. 4. Poke the long end into the hole held open with your thumb. This ties a knot around the ribbon. 5. Pull the long end up and to the left to tighten it. 6. Turn your hand over and you can see the knot that is made in the centre of your bow. Just slide it off your two fingers, trim the ends to size and ... 7. There you have it the EASY Perfect Bow! Hint: I attach it to my cardstock with a dimensional adhesive spot, or a mini glue dot works just as well. To get a neat pointed edge I use the Paper snips and fold the ribbon in half lengthwise to get a nice notch cut into it.

Materials Ribbon (approx. 3 yards) Ribbon wire (or floral wire) Scissors Wire cutters Instructions Curl ribbon over to create the center loop and pinch it at the base. Twist the tail of ribbon where your fingers are pinched so that the front side of the fabric is facing up. Fold the ribbon under to make the first loop.
Hi everyone!! I've had a few requests to show how I made the bow on the front of the Brie Box for this week's Tool Time Tuesday. If you missed upcycled Brie cheese box, you can click here. Here's the bow from the box...quick and easy!! Here is the second bow I will be demonstrating... For the first bow, you will need a length of ribbon for your desired size bow and a smaller strip (about half the width of your main ribbon) for the center. If you do not have a smaller width ribbon to match your main ribbon, you can cut a piece length wise. However, you will need to put Fray Check on the cut edge so it won't unravel. Place ribbon horizontal on flat surface. Take the left side of the ribbon end and fold over just past the half way mark. Glue with a dab of hot glue, fabric glue or tack with thread. Now fold over the right side just over the middle and secure with a dot of hot glue. Turn the ribbon over. Place your narrow center ribbon over the middle. Turn over and glue down both raw edges. All done!! Poof up the loops on both end or you can leave them flat for a more tailored look. I hot glued it to the front of the box. Bow #2... This is always my "Go To" way to make a bow. Take a length of ribbon... Cross over the 2 tails, making sure both ends are rights sides up if your ribbon has a wrong side and a right side. Now take the top section and bring it down behind the center crossed area. Bringing this center section down will form the 2 loops of the bow. This is the point where you will need to adjust the length of your tails and the size of your bow loops that you want. Once you make a lot of bows, you will be able to "eye" the size of things. Now pinch and gather the top part you just brought down and the crossed areas of the center. To secure the bow, you can use a thin matching ribbon, sturdy string or floral wire. For wreaths I use wire. For gift packages, gift bags or decorative accents, I use thin ribbon. Tie the ribbon tightly around the center cinching up all the ribbon. Don't forget to trim the tail edges...either "V" shaped notch, slanted on the diagonal or straight across with pinking sheers. Quick and easy bow without having to tie it like your tying your shoes, because those bows never turn out even for me. Now you can add your cute bow to anything... Have fun making your own bows!! ~Karen~

Last holiday season I posted a tutorial on how to make glitter ornaments. The questions about that tutorial keep on coming - and it's now about the ornaments so much as the bow on top! So today we're talking all about how to make the perfect (double) bow. Silhouette School weekly contributors Becky and Glenna from My Paper Craze are here to share their expertise in the bow making department! What's an ornament without a cute little bow for flair? Today, we'll show you how to make an easy double bow in less than a minute with nothing but your fingers and some ribbon. It's not exactly a Silhouette tutorial, but it is definitely need-to-know for crafters! First, you need some thin ribbon, preferably double-sided. I specifically chose not to use double-sided ribbon, just in case you were wondering what the big deal is. Measure out about 32 inches, give or take a little. You can always trim the excess. Now grab your ribbon and follow along! Pinch the ribbon about one-fourth of the way down and drape it over you fingers. Take the longer piece of ribbon and loop it back around your two fingers. Pay close attention to the photos and how the ribbon is looped around each finger. On the second time down, you'll come back to the front of your fingers instead underneath. Loop back up around the tip of your finger and loop to the left. Now tuck the end of your loose piece of ribbon through your two fingers, where they come together at your hand. Pull the loose ribbon end around the back and tuck it under where the ribbon crosses (kind of like tying your shoes). At this point, you can cinch it up and pull the loops together to make the bow. Now just slide it off your fingers and fluff your loops until you're satisfied. If it doesn't come out the first time, don't despair, you can actually untie this and try again with the same piece of ribbon! Can you see the difference with not using the double-sided ribbon? It's not a huge difference, it's more personal preference, but double-sided ribbon is recommended for consistency in the design. Now on to more crafting, you have to make ornaments to put all these bows on! Note: This post may contain affiliate links.
