I did some quick art journaling this afternoon: Documented Life Project - Week 14 - Write your name and embellish it. Gelli print with glued on letters.... Journal 52 - Week 13: How Does Your Garden Grow? Gelli print, Sharpie pen because my paint pens won't work, gelli print flowers. Oh dear, I can tell how tired I am as I could have added a lot more details and embellishments to these, oh well, at least I have done them this week. How's your art journaling going?

2016 #9: Mono Printing Hi everyone Sanda (Artfulflight) here, joining you today with a post about Gelli Printing. I am very happy to join the PaperArtsy blog with this post about gelli plate printing and how to incorporate our prints in the projects we make. So, for today I have prepared two cards using two different techniques – easy to make, yet very effective. I chose this theme as I absolutely love using my own printed papers either as backgrounds or just as collage pieces. Step One: I started by applying Fresco Acrylic Paints (Haystack, Chartreuse, Ice Blue and Cherry Red) to my gelli plate and spread them using a brayer. I laid down a stencil and pulled my first print on a piece of white cardstock. Step Two: I dried the remaining paint left on the gelli plate with a hair dryer. Make sure you do this on the cold setting (NEVER try using a heat gun or you will destroy your gelli plate!). Once dry, I then spread a thin layer of black paint on top and pulled a second print. The dried paint from step 2 sticks to the black paint so when you pull the print the pattern will be revealed on top of the dark paint. This will be the background for my first card. Step Three: I painted a few Ampersand panels (gesso-coated chipboard pieces can be used instead) using Brusho and Bister powders. I sprinkled the pigments over the panels and spritzed them with water, let the powders work their magic and left them to dry naturally. When everything was completely dry, I stamped the image with ID02-EZmounted using black Versafine Ink. ID02 Step Four: I cut the window from the first print, added a bit of shimmer using Fresco Finish Metalic Paint in White Fire and outlined it with a black Sharpie pen. I glued down the window, added a bit of stamping using a piece of chipboard and Cherry Red and mounted the stamped panels on a piece of black cardstock for a more finished look. I assembled my card and added as final touches a piece of chipboard, and the sentiment sticker. Card Two Step One: For this second card I was inspired by a technique I first saw demonstrated by Paula Phillips aka Journal Artista. I started by applying a coat of Black Gesso on a piece of cardstock and dried it with my heat gun. Through a stencil I randomly applied watercolour paints to the gesso and dried thoroughly using the heating tool. Step Two: I applied Fresco Acrylic Paints (Haystack, Ice Blue and Caribbean Sea) to my gelli plate and spread them using the brayer. I laid down a stencil, pulled a first print on a scrap paper, removed the stencil and then pulled a second print on the cardstock prepared in steps one. Step Three: This step is identical to step four of the previous card, again I used ID02-EZmounted stamp set. I mounted the stamped panels on a piece of black cardstock, assembled my card and added as final touches a piece of chipboard, and the sticker letters spelling the word “explore”. Here is a video showing my start to finish process, I hope you enjoy watching. I hope you have enjoyed the tutorial, you've got inspired and you are ready to create your own fabulous art using these fun and easy techniques. And I must tell you that working with these high quality PaperArtsy paints and stamps is a dream for any artist. Play, experiment and you'll be hooked to gelli printing as much as I am :). For a collaborative International Dot Day project, every student in my primary school made a dot which was combined into a big mobile! Somehow we managed to fit almost 500 dots on the mobile, glued back to back with yarn in the middle. Prior to our Dot Day celebrations, I made the structure of the mobile. It's a bit hard to see with no dots on it, but the structure was made from 3 wire hangers stuck together to form 6 points. I hung a piece of yarn on each corner, one in the middle, and one half way between each corner and the middle for a total of 13 strands. Of course the yarn strands were arranged in color wheel order in each ring. That's how I roll. I had precut squares of white drawing paper and the students started with that to make their dots. Some used the round-off-the-corner method, and others traced cups or other circular objects to start with. It was a good chance to review rotating the paper instead of turning the scissors when cutting round things. I was super impressed with this kitten dot, cut out by a Kindergartener with absolutely no assistance. A lot of older kids can't cut that well! I had to brag to his teacher about it. :) When students finished their dots, they left them on a stool near the mobile so that I could find two similar sized dots to sandwich. Some of the early finishers enjoyed helping match up dots. When the mobile was finished, I had to figure out where I was going to display the mobile! I was originally thinking that it could hang in the art room but it ended up being way too tall for that. If I had gotten this idea earlier, I would have used a hula hoop to increase the diameter and decrease the height. Luckily, our school librarian was happy to find a place to display the mobile in the library. She was also the first to complete her celebridot- inspired by Eric Carle's "The Very Grouchy Ladybug!"
Here's how it went.
