Hello everyone! how are you guys faring during this lock down period? Some days I'm super productive, some days I'm so lazy to do anything. I managed to make some baby Octopus for my little girl. It's the same pattern as my Octopus cupcake but with a little bow. It's super simple and doesn't require a lot of time. It's a beginner friendly project and i have included lots of step by step pictures in this post. Read below for instructions on how to make these adorable Octo babies. Materials needed: Worsted weight acrylic yarn in any two colours of your choice. 3.5 mm crochet hook. 8 mm safety eyes. Tapestry needle. Polyester fiber fill for stuffing. Stitches/ Abbrevations used: R - Round / Row. Ch - Chain. St - Stitch. Sc - Single crochet. Hdc - Half double crochet. Dc - Double crochet. Inc - Single crochet increase (2 sc in same st). Dec - Single crochet decrease (2 sc together) Sl st - Slip stitch. This pattern is written in US crochet terms and worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise. Head: With main colour yarn, R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: Inc in each st (12). R3: [ sc, inc ] x 6 (18). R4: [ sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 6 (24). R5: [ sc in next 3 st, inc ] x 6 (30). R6 - 10: sc in each st (30). R11: [ sc in next 3 st, dec ] x 6 (24). Insert 8 mm safety eyes between R8 and R9 with 6 stitches in between. R12: [ sc in next 2 st, dec ] x 6 (18). Stuff the head firmly will fiber fill and stuff as you go. R13: [ sc, dec ] x 6 (12). R14: dec in each st (6). Weave in the ends and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. We use popcorn stitch for making tentacles. Popcorn stitch explained: 5 double crochet in the specified stitch, pull up the loop on your hook and carefully remove the hook. Insert your hook from front on the top of first double crochet stitch and grab the dropped loop from behind and pull it through. Finally secure the stitch with A chain (see pic below for reference). Note: When you make the first popcorn stitch, you will chain 3 (which counts as first dc) and 4 dc in the same stitch. You will insert the hook on the third chain of the first stitch and continue the other steps of the popcorn stitch as usual. Tentacles: R1: 8 sc in magic ring (8). R2: 2 sc in each stitch (16) and sl st to the first st. Work a popcorn stitch in the first st, *skip one st, make a popcorn stitch in next st*, rep ** 6 more times and sl st to the first st. You will now have 8 popcorn stitch made in a round that looks like a flower. Bow: With any yarn colour of your choice, In magic ring, *Ch 2, hdc, dc, hdc, chain 2 and slip stitch into the ring* twice. Pull the tail to close the ring. wrap around the middle of the bow 3 times and make a knot at the back. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Assembling: Attach the tentacles to the head. Add in the bow to the head around R5. And your Baby octopus is now done! I really hope you liked the tutorial. Don't forget to share your makes on Instagram with the tag #littleloveeveryday. Also i'm having a sale in my Etsy shop. Get 20% off on all patterns till the end of April. Stay safe everyone! Better days are ahead :)

I made this cute little fella for a young lady who is a HUGE Groot fan. She has very serious medical problems that impairs her quality of life and keeps her wheelchair-bound. I wanted to make this for her. I searched Pinterest and found a few I liked but was unsettled how I wanted to make him. Groot Size: approximately 8-9" tall Materials: --5.0mm hook --#4 worsted weight yarn (light tan/brown and green) -- the coloring on my pics is a little off from editing --black embroidery thread for mouth --2 black eyes --polyfil --stitch marker --1 Chenille stem --tapestry needle for weaving U.S. Stitch Abbreviations: Ch: chain Sl st: slip stitch St: stitch(es) SC: single crochet Rep: repeat MR: magic ring FO: fasten off Special Note: I worked this pattern in the round. Use your stitch marker to keep track of the beginning and ending stitches. Move stitch marker up as you start each new round. Directions: Head: For the most part, I followed the blog of Twinkie Chan for the head portion with a few slight changes. Here is the LINK to her blog. Note: I did not make stems for the top of the head but I did make and attach 3 leaves. After that, her Baby Groot was made like a tree. I wanted mine to have a body and legs. On my first attempt, I went up in increase stitches to 24 - but, I thought 24 stitches was too big. I then settled on stopping at 18 stitches. Body/Legs: 1. For the body, I started with 6 SC st in a magic ring. Pull tail to tighten. (6) 2. 2 SC in each st around. (12) 3. 2 SC in first st, 1 SC in next st. Rep around. (18) 4-10. 1 SC in each st around. (18) Stuff body with polyfil. First Leg: 11. 1 SC in the first 9 st. Sl st join to first st. (9) 12-17. 1 SC in each st around. At the end of Round 17, FO and weave ends. Second Leg: Rep 11-17 for the second leg. Stuff legs with polyfil. Bottom of Leg (make 2): 1. 6 SC st in a magic ring. (6) 2. 2 SC in first st. 1SC in next st. Rep around. Sl st join to first st and FO. Leave a long enough tail to attach to the bottom of each leg. Arms (make 2): 1. 6 SC into magic ring. 2-10. 1 SC in each st around. At end of Round 10, FO and leave a tail for attaching to body. (I placed a Chenille stem - approx length of arm - inside to make movable.) Hand (make 2): 1. For the hand, I chained 2, slip stitched in first. I rep this until I had 5 "fingers" made and then attached to bottom of arm. 2. Rep again for second hand. Leaves: 1. I just made picot stitches (chain 3, slip stitch in first chain and fasten off) and attached throughout. I attached a leaf to each arm, each leg and on the body and head. I saw several pictures that used a long chain of stitches (well, that's what it looked like to me) so I made one and attached from under the arm, around the body and around one leg. I then made a second chain of stitches long enough to wrap around the second leg. I did not count how many chains for each. Attach the body parts and that's it. Happy Crocheting...
