French artist Soasig Chamaillard has taken some standard images of Catholic worship - statues of Mary - and jazzed them up a little, adding a pop culture focus to something that was once purely spiritual.

Dolls are a beloved toy out there and most kids love to play with them, although sometimes, people take their fondness for dolls into adulthood and never grow out of them. It is quite trendy today to recreate dolls and repaint their faces to make them look more detailed and realistic, and that is exactly what Spanish artist José Francisco Cerezo Roldan does.

I removed this guy's blonde hair, replaced it with a brown handmade wig with highlights, worked on his tan for days, augmented his body work for weeks, and carefully repainted him so I could put him up for adoption. I have let a lot of handsome miniatures go over the years with no problem. But, this one seems to be glued to my hand, and i cannot part with him, sigh!

The details are just astounding.
Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann Noel Cruz is one of the most versatile & distinguished repaint artists in the doll community. He is most recognized for his character & celebrity based dolls due to their uncanny resemblance to the people they portray. His dolls are derived from several models like Gene, Tyler, Sydney, etc, by various doll-makers such as Robert Tonner & Franklin Mint. His repaints as well as his portraits are done with intricate detail to the point of being naturally lifelike in essence. Highly regarded among collectors and artists alike, Noel attempts to raise the bar and bring a fresh take to the common mass produced doll with every face he paints. Noel's specialty is with one of a kind repaints. The beauty of repaints is that almost no two are exactly alike just as no two artists are alike. Visit my web site at www.ncruz.com

Barbie has been scrutinized for years over everything from her controversial body proportions to her outfits and accessories to her careers. But there is one aspect of her persona that Nickolay Lamm feels consumers have glossed over: her heavy makeup.“I think it’s a little bit too hyper-sexualized and I think people don’t say anything because makeup has been on dolls for so long,” says Lam
Artist Sonia Singh collected discarded dolls and gave them "makeunders" by repainting their faces, giving them new shoes, and dressing them in new clothes.
Zee is a full repaint. His blonde factory hair was removed, and he is wearing a handmade permanent wig.
In 1999 a lawsuit was filed by Barbie manufacturer Mattel Corp against artist Tom Forsythe over his photograph of a Barbie in a Blender (as a comment on crass consumerism says the artist). Five years later on July 27, 2004 Mattel lost the suit and had to reimburse Forsythe $1.8 million in legal costs because the judge in the case ruled that it ran counter to the first amendment. In celebration of free speech and fair use, FreeCulture.org created National Barbie-in-a-Blender Day.
