Lace making is a very old tradition in the Maltese islands; Gozitans are particularly famous for it. We are speaking about the real hand-made stuff (bobbin lace) - machine-woven lace pales in comparison. Unfortunately it is a dying crafts, as it involves long hours of intricate work, and the income most of the time does not justify it. Here you can see the skillful hands of an expert Gozitan lace maker working with silk. In the background you can see a good example of a finished product. Shot on location in one of the lace shops at the Ta Dbiegi Crafts Village, Gozo.
Fernando Navarro Ruiz (1867-1944) was a Spanish photographer. In 1890 he opened a photographic studio in his hometown Totana and until 1916, when the studio was closed due the development of the possibilities of amateur photography, he was considered as a magnificent example of popular photography, focusing all its activities in what we would call social documentary of Totana. These portrait photos below were taken by Fernando from between 1896 to 1916.

I've finally been doing a little bit of arty stuff after quite a long break from it. The mojo went, life got in the way and some good and not so good things needed most of my attention! However, at last I've picked up a paint brush and been creative - I've painted a few lace bobbins and here they are sitting on my desk in an old teacup while waiting for the varnish to dry on their little heads. For anyone interested I posted about bobbin painting a few weeks ago here. I'm linking up with WOYWW this week.

Hungarian fiber artist Ágnes Herczeg (previously) continues to create delicate depictions of quiet moments. Formed from colorful lace and found wood, each small scene floats in mid-air and is attached to a piece of wood. Whereas in previous work, Herczeg used unusually shaped wood fragments as part of the figural elements of the scenes, in her more recent pieces the wood acts as a frame. You can see more of the artist’s work on her website and Instagram. More
