Parable of the Pencil You will be able to do great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held by someone higher than you. It is ok to experience a painful sharpening from time to time. The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside. Be men and women of honor, relying on your inner core values and morals. You will make mistakes. Everyone does. That is why pencils have an eraser. Make your mark. Make a difference wherever you go.

We are working on a "big picture" of the Sacraments in Religion at school right now. I created these notes for the kids with the four main ideas we keep coming back to: Jesus' mission, the Church, the Sacraments, and Grace...and how they are all related. Here is my version with a little color added to make it pretty. You can print out my copy of the notes by clicking here: Or you can print the blank notes to have the kids fill in by clicking here: You might also like our Sacrament Symbols notes or some of the other activities under the Sacraments tab above.

For this weeks handout I thought the April 2010 the New Era Magazine would be perfect. It is a special issue: dating for beginners. I thought it had some really good topics, and talks. It is $1.50 a magazine. They can be ordered HERE or call the LDS Global Service Center 1-800-537-5971 You can view a pdf of the magazine HERE. If you wanted to just print a few articles from the magazine. But I thought for only $1.50 it would be fun for them to have the actual magazine

Today we talked about David and Goliath and how David had courage. You can find his Scripture Hero Chart to download here. We watched the LDS Scripture video about David and Goliath (28). We also watched Veggie Tales: Dave and the Giant Pickle which is a fun little version of the story and promotes self esteem. We then measured about how tall Goliath was (nine feet) with yarn and hung it up so that we could compare how tall we were to Goliath's height. I am around the same height David probably was so that gave them an idea of how much bigger Goliath was. A Year of FHE has a fun coloring page and great lesson. We also talked about "Goliath's" that come into our lives (peer pressure, bad language, etc.) and how we combat those things (prayer, Holy Ghost, going to church, etc.) This lesson has some great ideas. The boys had a great time acting out the story. We used marshmallows instead of slings and rocks. We had a pretty fun day talking about David and Goliath.

We have been pretty bad at doing Family Home Evening the past few months because we haven't been able to figure out the balance between us doing something and including Aidan. In Relief Society the other week, we were asked to set some goals to improve our spirituality and other areas of life and I had this brilliant idea to come up with FHE ideas and lessons that we could include Aidan in. I just put a basic header with the topic of each lesson. We'll talk about what we can related to the subject and then do the activity. Some of these ideas are better for a younger toddler and others are for an older toddler. Those with an asterisk are for holidays and special occasions. I've hyper linked some of the ideas to their sources. All of the songs are from the Children's Songbook unless they say otherwise. PRAYER Song: A Child’s Prayer #12 Activity: Use the prayer puppet.
