What is refraction? Find out with this selection of refraction of light experiments for kids. Bend a pencil, reverse and arrow and more
Student groups rotate through four stations to examine light energy behavior: refraction, magnification, prisms and polarization. They see how a beam of light is refracted (bent) through various transparent mediums. While learning how a magnifying glass works, students see how the orientation of an image changes with the distance of the lens from its focal point. They also discover how a prism works by refracting light and making rainbows. And, students investigate the polar nature of light using sunglasses and polarized light film.
Light waves are often referred to when discussing reflection, refraction and diffraction. However, these behaviours also apply to other waves
Your kids and you will be amazed at what you see with your own eyes an image flips in the opposite direction when placed behind a glass of water!
Have you ever imagined seeing a pencil whose tip has been intricately carved into a tiny train, or perhaps seeing traffic light signals brilliantly adorned with vivid LEDs on the pole? That must be some rather crazy concepts, right? Well, not so much when you take into consideration other things you are about to witness in this post.

Halloween is around the corner and I want to do some special science experiment to celebrate Halloween. This Zip Lock Bag Water Refraction is good to try. I draw a pumpkin and a ghost, the pumpkin will disappear in water, but the ghost.
Let’s teach about the reflection and refraction of light for 5th grade. Even though this can be a confusing topic, your students will reach mastery in no time with these interactive activities for reflection and refraction, as well as absorption. What are reflection and refraction? I’ll be honest; before I started teaching 5th grade, the ... Read more
Students may think a straw looking broken in a glass of water is magic. Use this fun and engaging ideas to help students master the concept of reflection and refraction of light energy.
See how a pencil bends in water and learn how light waves travel through water with these science experiments that look at the physics of light refraction!

Light refraction is the bending of light, or the change in direction of the rays as it moves past a boundary. For example, when light crosses through a window, it is refracted and can create a rainbow. A prism illustrates this theory. As light passes through the prism, it refracts and separates into an entire ...
Watch light refraction in action when the arrow changes direction in this easy science experiment for kids
Here is a super simple, yet magical, experiment on refraction of light. Learn the magic of science in this water refraction trick.
The ancient practice of sitting in circle. The circle is the primordial shape that embraces all, spiralling into the infinite. There is no beginning and no end. We sit in circle as a practice of remembrance that we are never alone on this human journey. We offer our raw experience, our vulnerability, through opening ou
