The View From Inside Beach The View from Inside Beach and from a kayak just off the shore, is of rocky islands and steep cliffs, a protected lagoon and jagged reef across Seldovia Bay, and out across the mouth of Kachemak Bay and lower Cook Inlet, to the tall volcanoes of the Alaska Peninsula. This is the perfect place to watch the sunset, the ebb and flow of tides, and the boats coming and going. This is a digital print from original cut-paper artwork by Alaskan artist, Valisa Higman. Artwork is 10 in. wide and 8 in. tall plus a 1/2 in white boarder. "My cut-paper artwork all starts as a sheet of black paper. Carving away at the background using an Xacto knife, the images are revealed in an intricate lacework of lines. Using the black as my foreground, I fill the negative space by piecing together layers of paper in vibrant colors and textures. As a finishing touch, I add the last details and shading with paint. My work reflects my love of community, nature and all things nostalgic." Prints are on archival matte paper and sealed in a plastic sleeve with a backing.

If we continue spewing pollution into the atmosphere, our climate will only continue to change, and the oceans will be very different than they are today. Ocean temperatures will rise, and with that, rising PH levels will make the water more acidic. It's simple chemistry and a sad fact. So how do we solve this problem? Artist and ocean advocate Courtney Mattison has made it the mission of her ceramic sculptures to remind us of the ocean's beauty and inspire preservation. Her "Changing Seas " series, previously featured on our blog, is Mattison's first major work towards this goal.
