Wall art that combines the rustic, natural pallet wood charm with a more modern version of animals. My children have inspired me to create many animals that are not the literal representations of the animals, but a stylized version. Utilizing old wood from discarded pallets with varying levels of aging, allows for the contrast in texture and colors to define the shapes. Each piece of wall art is unique due to the characteristics of the wood from the pallets. The Bat is 25" width, 13.5" height, and 1" thickness. It could be hung outdoors to continue weathering like the wood has been doing for many years, the product is glued with poly-urethane waterproof glue.
Pumpkins are as popular as versatile, believe it or not. Laura has made these lovely and rustic looking reclaimed wood pumpkins.

I have SO many pallet boards laying around. We live by a big industrial warehouse and I see them almost every time I drive by just leaning up against the dumpsters. I can't just leave them there!! This pallet pumpkin was super simple to create- I just cut the pallet board to length and used my jigsaw to make the rounded edges so it looked more like a pumpkin shape. I also used my jigsaw to cut the leaf out of a pallet board. After I painted it I thought it needed a little something so I stenciled the little "fall" on there and called it good!!
I really liked the garden pallet posted by Cultivator Landscapes last week, so I started looking at what else you could do with pallets. I found some treasures…

What is wrong with me this year? My annual goal is to pretty much be done with all my Christmas shopping by Thanksgiving. Ask me what I've accomplished this year - - - zero, zilch, nada! Ok, I pick up stuff for my boys all year long when I find good sales - then I stash it away and hope that I remember that I have it. But that's it! Really. I usually make some handmade gifts along the way too and have those ready to go for Christmas gifts - but again, this year, nothing. I've wandered down to my craft room a few times in the last few days and searched around for a project that calls to me. Once again - nothing. However - just so I don't feel too badly about myself, I have been crafting with my boys this week -some really fun Thanksgiving kids crafts. I'll post those in the next few days when we put the finishing touches on them. So, as usual, when I get busy . . . or lazy . . . I do a little blog stalking and look at other people's great ideas. So I present for my viewing pleasure . . . crafty things I liked this week. First up - there's something about 2 by 4's. There are some talented crafters out there that can take a piece (pieces) of wood and turn them in to the simplest, yet cutest crafts. Take for example this 2x4 Turkey - just in time for Thanksgiving. Craft Goodies posted its tutorial over at Ucreate. Next I stalked across a new favorite craft blogger - Under My Umbrella. Talk about taking 2x4's to a new level. Here is her 2x4 Snowman. Easy and yet so fun.UMU's 2x4 Christmas Tree was the first of her projects that caught my eye. She has a couple of different versions of this tree all using the same wood pieces. This tree is my personal favorite. Then she came up with this 2x4 Santa. Love him!And if 2x4's aren't the easiest crafts you can undertake - how about this absolutely adorable Rock Snowman at Not Just a Housewife. I know 2 little boys who are going to love this one as a craft project in the next few weeks. Now - I'm off to clean house and cook Thanksgiving Dinner with all our favorites. Oh - and I will try to stay warm in the "Blizzard of 2010". And - - I have a few craft projects floating around my brain that are beginning to call to me. Let's see how motivated I get.

Reclaimed oak planters made entirely from pallets. Planters can be made to order for design and size. All planters shown in the pictures are oak and left the natural beauty of the wood, protected with multiple coats of marine grade polyurethane for many years of wear through harsh weather and water. Please specify if you would like it stained a different color. At this point I have some reclaimed cedar siding that could also be used without the polyurethane sealant if requested. Cedar/redwood would be a different cost. Dimensions: As an example of the dimensions pictured, the chevron shaped planter is approximately 40" high and 24" wide, the state of Ohio is approximately 42" x 28" and the state of West Virginia is about 36" x 36" overall with all the weird outcroppings, all are about a total of 5-6" depth from the wall. Planter boxes are random lengths but all about 4" deep by about 5" high. Please message me with any questions, I love taking special requests and custom orders :) Buyers in Alaska and Hawaii please message me for shipping. Usual US rates do not apply. Thanks a bunch! Annie
Artist CommentsFound, reclaimed and resurrected- an abstract wood relief ;painting; in an assortment of soft and hard woods puzzled together within a salvaged antique window frame. I am a collector and gatherer of everything left behind, overlooked, tossed aside. From abandoned barns in Maine to kitchen remodels in Massachusetts to a razed rectory built in 1893- each piece of wood carries a history and a past and now a new purpose. Each piece of wood has been individually cut and sanded by hand, some may receive a color treatment of stain or paint, some will be left in their natural state, before the entire piece is finished with Tung Oil. Your artwork will arrive ready to hang, signed on the back.About the ArtistWhen asked how she became an artist, sculptor Heather Patterson replied, “I just seem to be built that way.” Heather is passionate about creating, and is constantly inspired by her daily surroundings and experiences. The artist’s body of work is governed by her mission to reassign meaning to materials that have outlived their perceived purpose. She works with reclaimed wood and window panes to produce geometric wall sculptures that may remind the viewer of abstract modernist paintings. Modernism conjures an underlying tension in Heather-–a “vibration,” she calls it. Each sculpture is created without a premeditated plan or sketch, but is instead governed by feeling and intuition.Nearest Place Not HereHeather Pattersonwood on woodOne-of-a-kindSigned on back201629 in. h x 17 in. w x 3 in. d8 lbs. 0 oz.
