An office chair / side chair designed by Eliel Saarinen for Suomen Valtion Rautatiet (Finnish State Railways). This present example from the Hallintorakennus administrative building in Helsinki. Produced in oak, marked with a paper label from Finnish State Railways, detailing which floor and room of the building the chair was produced for. Working in the same era as Gunnar Asplund, Le Corbusier, and Gerrit Rietveld, and others, we see a similar ethos in this design, one of rigor and stripping of ornamentation. Later, Axel Einar Hjorth designed pieces in a similar vein in the Sportstuge-series. Eliel Saarinen is considered to be Finland's most important architect and designer alongside Alvar Aalto. Eliel's son, Eero Saarinen, later went on to become one of the world's most important midcentury architects.

ADKX is located in Adirondack Park, the largest protected natural area in the contiguous 48 states, comprising six million acres (one fifth of New York State) of forested mountains, pristine waterways, and 105 towns and villages. Canoes, stage coaches, a train car, a station wagon, and a snow mobile are on display and visitors may tour a private railroad station and Pullman car, with audio soundscapes, that once transported millionaires and L and N Railroad executives like August Belmont, Austin Carin, and Henry Walters. An eastbound Burlington Northern coal train snakes through the curves at Sully Springs, North Dakota, on June 29, 1994. The train is led by specially-painted SD60M No. 1991 to honor U.S. troops serving in Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War. A large seal of the United States graced the mostly white front of the locomotive. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
