Am I the only one who is ready for this Winter to be over? Spring Break is right around the corner and we still have freezing temperatures here!! This week we have been looking at the ugly, freezing, dark skies and rain. We wanted to turn it into something beautiful! Begin with a white crayon and draw the horizon line. there should be a big emphasis on drawing OVALS instead of circles. Students figured out that you can see the white crayon BETTER when the paper in on their stool UNDER the table! So I let them draw on their stools! Can you see the white crayon in the picture? Some students added a rainbow, lightning bolt or other details Then I swiped the ENTIRE paper with a wet rag to begin the wet on wet watercolor I used Sargent Liquid Watercolor Magic for this. I use it ALOT because of the vibrant colors. We used turquoise, Blue, and black Ovals should be very small at the top of the horizon, but gradually get larger as they go down the page. Use a straight edge for the rain drops. The must TOUCH each puddle First, paint some large blue "blobs" on your paper. Then paint around the blue with black and watch it blend with the blue and the wet paper!! I have some siblings at my school working on a special project and they painted the background with the rain idea and it turned out great! Here is a link to the kind of watercolors I use for EVERYTHING! There are different sizes if you want a smaller set. You can put them in muffin tins or ice cube trays on the tables. Everyone knows that April showers bring May flowers. What better way to celebrate spring and the rainy season for some than with this wonderful stitch along pattern from Digital Misfit. I've decided to transfer my pattern using water soluble stabilizer. I simply traced the pattern onto the stabilizer and secured it with my hoop. I decided to start the middle to anchor the fabric and the stabilizer. After I am completely finished I wills wash away the stabilizer and have a wonderful piece of embroidery...I should probably stop here, before I get ahead of myself. I can't wait to see how everyone stitches up this wonderful Spring shower.

I sure have missed my craftivity posts lately! I am back today with not just one, but TWO cute ideas for spring. First...April showers...For this one, we did umbrellas and raindrops! I copied an umbrella pattern likes this one HERE on bright spring colored paper, and cut a few million blue rain drops. Actually, I must give credit where credit is due...I had a student helper cut out all this stuff. Lol, it was really awesome! Then I let my kids pick their umbrellas and they wrote speech words on those, as well as the raindrops! We got in TONS of repetitions with this activity!Here are some final shots! This group all wanted to glue theirs to a bigger sheet of construction paper, but I had some that just glued to their umbrella. Both were super cute! This was their speech homework for the week :)

Hang paper raindrops from an umbrella. Put song names on the rain drops. When a child picks a raindrop put in on the board in a circular motion and it will become petals of a flower (on a stem already taped on the board).
