This is a super easy and fast to make quilt. It is inspired by a vintage weaving pattern but the supersized design makes it fresh and modern. Precut friendly. The pattern uses 10" squares packs, also known as Layer Cakes. Two Layers Cakes plus background fabric will make up to a Double (or small Queen) size quilt. The fabric used on the cover quilts is WooliesFlannel by Maywood Studio. The pattern contains the information needed to help you replicate the Ragged Flashback quilt. This handmade rag quilt, made with flannel and cotton fabric, is a great gift for a new addition to the family. The measurements for this quilts at 30”x36”. Rag quilts should be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. You can either air dry the quilt, or place it in the dryer on a low heat setting. Rag quilts are designed to fray over and develop a “ragged” appearance over time. To maintain this look, trim any loose threads or frayed edges with scissors as needed. Avoid pulling on the frayed edges, as this can damage the quilt.

I did manage to make some progress on a few UFO’s at our guilds retreat on the weekend. The first project was a Ragtime quilt that I had cut out using my GO cutter last spring. The flannels have a winter theme with snowflakes and mitts and will look great on my couch all winter. This UFO was taking up a lot of space in my fabric bins so it was good cleaning those out. I was able to quilt all the blocks at the retreat but then put it away to work on another project. When I got home I knew I couldn’t just put the blocks back in the bins so on Sunday I got to work piecing the quilt together and it is now DONE! I love that all the fringes are done with the GO cutter, that is such a time saver. My other UFO project was my Scrappy Jewel Box blocks that were given to me by my guild members when my term as President was over. You can read about this quilt here. I was able to finished this quilt top…what do you think? Well to be honest …I love how the center looks and the inner navy border but am disappointed in my other two border choices. I’m picking them off tomorrow! It needs a much darker outer border as the second and third borders just blend together too much and when I laid it on my bed the borders just didn’t look right. So now I’m on a mission to find new fabrics for the borders and that’s not easy when the nearest quilt shop 150km away. I’m thinking a dark navy with a pop of bright colors in it for the outer border. I was hoping to quilt this one in December but it will now have to wait until my border issues are solved. I don’t want to rush with this quilt as it is very special to me and I want to finish it right. Now on another subject, the bay finally froze over yesterday at it was getting down to –15’c at night. It has been slowly freezing in sections and you can see the layers in the photos how the older ice is whiter and the newer ice clearer. I’m hoping the clear sections stay clear so I can start using the ice as a backdrop again for my pictures. But don’t worry it will be a few weeks before I venture out there :)
Unique hand dyed indigo Shibori denim fabric bundle in lovely designs. This fabric comes from a white pair of denim jeans which I have reclaimed and dyed using the Japanese technique of Shibori, which is achieved by folding, tyeing and resist dyeing. The result is lovely unique fabric for all sewing projects! This is a pack of 5 different sizes, 3 large and 2 small, I have shown the sizes in the photo. I have included larger pieces which are great for larger projects such as bags, cushions etc . The pieces still have seams and ragged edges which I leave on as my customers say they add character to the fabric! All fabric is hand dyed by me, is washed, ironed and ready to use. This is a handmade throw size rag quilt made from reclaimed denim. The front is made up of various blue denim colors and blends with quilters cotton in sock monkey print and coordinating red in a checkerboard fashion on the back. It has a grey fleece inner layer which makes this quilt super soft and comfy. I consider this a heavy weight quilt that consists of 48 - 9 inch blocks that are sewn with an X and ragged for a unique look. It is a nice ample throw size measuring 48 inches x 64 inches and finished with a binded edge. It has been washed and dried one time after construction to induce the fraying process and will continue to get softer and fluffier with each washing. It's the perfect size for snuggling on the sofa to watch TV or to take outdoors to watch winter sports. All seams are reinforced at the block joints. With care it will last a long time.
