Niki won his third and final Championship in 1984, with Prost beating his team mate Lauda to the title in 1985, and until the latter stages of the final race of the 1986 season, the Australian Grand Prix, Prost appeared set to finish second in the Championship, behind Mansell, but Nigel suffered a rear tyre failure at 180 mph and crashed out.
