Epic adventures are only part of the appeal of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth books. What really set Tolkien apart from other fantasy writers was his skill at crafting entire worlds—and at showing how important language is to history and identity. How much do you know about Tolkien's linguistic world?

We have finally read the thought provoking, charming, cry worthy book, "Wonder" by RJ Palacio August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face Wonder was published in 2012 and has had so many rave reviews and has been discussed by many book clubs and hundreds of classrooms and schools. What better way to represent "Wonder" than by to make the food themed around elementary school!? Our menu may look different this month and that is because we asked each member to bring their own sack lunch filled with the foods that they always wanted to find in their lunch boxes when they were in elementary school! This was our first ever SACK LUNCH FOOD SWAP and it was AWESOME!! {Drinks} When you think elementary school lunch how can you not think of chocolate milk cartons? We had chocolate milk and juice cartons for book club members to spend their .50 on. {Sides & Salads} Since everyone brought their own sack lunches, we thought it'd be nice to have a couple of green and grain salads for everyone to eat just in case someone didn't like something in their lunch. Plus, we have also have several gals who are either vegetarian or gluten intolerant so this assured there was SOMETHING tasty for everyone . Chocolate pudding in a small cup makes for a great presentation of the silky smooth pudding. Kelly made them look extra fancy by adding a dollop of whip cream and chocolate shavings on top. What a perfect way to have individual servings all ready to go. Here are some small square dessert cups for a more modern look. - Jello - We can't do a school lunch themed book club without the infamous jello jigglers! You can use any type of jello or chocolate molds to get these in the shapes you want. {Main Dish} Our first ever Sack Lunch Food Swap! We told members to bring whatever they liked in there sack lunch. This could be what they wish they had for lunch when they were little or a cheese burger and fries from their favorite fast food joint. This idea can be as creative and easy as you want. Angie had the brown paper sacks and name tags ready at book club so when the ladies showed up they put their lunches inside. This way all the sacks looked the same. {Desserts} We wanted a few desserts that the girls could have after their sack lunch dinner to reward them for eating their veggies. ;) Snickerdoodle Cookies Peanut Butter Bars {Sack Lunches} Before we ate, we played HOT POTATO with all the lunch bags to determine who's lunch you ate because let's face it, in elementary, whatever was in your friends lunch always looked 10x better than the soggy peanut butter and pickle sandwich your mom packed for you am I right?! How perfect is Carissa's picnic style table for all of us to eat at?? It felt very much like a cafeteria table which makes me wonder, what kind of "clique" would we have been labeled if we all sat together as 5th graders? Possibly, the book nerd table... I love it. Thank you Summer Nicole Photography for all the beautiful pictures, you always do such a fantastic job of capturing the events of our evenings perfectly. (I am going to steal your camera next book club and take some pictures of you!) Thank you to Carissa for hosting this book club. Your home is beautiful and thank you for opening it up to us. Thank you to Angie for moderating the book club. You are so amazing, talented and creative. I always know you will come up with such an amazing book club night.
