While working on my Low Tide series, I managed to put together a few pieces for a commission. I liked returning to the rich tones of autumn. It's nice to have a few different projects on the go - jumping between colour palettes keeps things fresh. Commission, one of three. 8" x 10" 17" x 21" framed SOLD www.chursinoff.com/kirsten/

art quilt using only prints with flowers and leaves
This quilt belongs to Diann. Don't you just LOVE those Kaffe Fassett fabrics! I just did a simple overall swirl quilting. I usually only post pictures of custom quilting but it seems like I have not been doing a lot of quilting this summer. And besides, I absolutely love this quilt!
I realised that I haven't added many of these photo's here, so thought I would. These are of my Crazy Quilt with Grandmother's Fans. It took 4 years between 1992-1996 and I sold it in 2009(ish) for $70000AU.

This is Lorna’s Saturday Surprise quilt and it was a 2012 BOM project. Lorna decided to put her blocks on point and added the criss cross sashing design which looks fantastic in the two colors giving it a woven effect. The fabric choices are brilliant and the cool mint green with the red is stunning. **For those of you that are wanting to find this pattern the shop that did the BOM no longer offers it as the shop as changed ownership. So please do not email me asking for the pattern as I did not make it, I just quilted it! Please use the photos as inspiration to making your own** She asked for custom quilting and to just have fun with it so I did! I started with the Beadboard design in the outer border, used my channel locks on my Millennium for this design. Then quilted feathers in the setting triangles, curls in the sashing and various designs in the blocks and keep the quilting light. SID on the sashing strips and around the blocks. Lorna brought extra wide Stonehenge backing which is one of my favorites to quilt on as it is so soft and shows off the quilting very well.
Cathy and I have just returned from a fun weekend in NYC. My son Andrew lives in Manhattan and it was great to have our own travel guide. We spent a large amount of time seeking out wonderful ribbons, trinkets and fabrics. One of the treats of our visit was a visit to Tinsel Trading. We spent many hours in the store and ended walking out with a little bag of wonderful vintage ribbons. Our heads were swimming with all the great new projects we are going to create. On Sunday we took a trip to Eatily. It is a wonderful store with 5 restaurants and every possible Italian food product you could possibly dream about. I would love to have just a few of these wonderful choices at home. Amazing cheese, wine, meat and dessert choices. A trip to New York for me would not be complete without a visit to the Folk Art Museum. This year is the year of the Quilt and they had a wonderful collection of quilts on display both at the Lincoln Branch and the main museum on 53rd. The weather cooperated, we walked for miles and ate some wonderful meals. It was really good to spend time with Andrew and see how well he has adjusted to life in the Big Apple. My head is spinning with new ideas. I am now back home for a few days so a little time to create. Happy stitching Sue

Come on in and join me in a rug cuttin happy dance! It's so exciting to finally have this finished. The idea for the quilt started well over a year ago. The tulips are from Lori Holt's book Quilty Fun. However I started this quilt before her book was published. She originally gave the pattern on her blog for free during a row along. So I saved it. Of course I bought her book anyway with the intentions of making one of her patterns. But you know me...I can't stick to a pattern. In the book it calls for one tulip as a block. Using 4 tulips and some math I came up with the Promenading Tulips block. (not my tree, its Charles front yard) When I get an idea for a quilt it's just that...an idea. The details are always changing and morphing. You can read more about how I came up with the different elements of this quilt here and here. Planning the quilting is another hurdle. The same technique is used in this process which means I do the quilt stare and keep my eyes open when surfing the web. With the inner scalloped border I knew I wanted the quilting to be dense enough to make the 3D effect really stand up, but I didn't want a quilt that was a stiff as board with that quilted to death feel. Finding that balance somewhere in the middle. The decision was made to leave some "poofy" areas towards the center of the quilt. Now I bet you all are wondering about this truck. Ain't she a beauty! There's a story behind her too. A few months ago I was on my way to momma's, of course I always take the long way, winding through the country roads and enjoying the scenery. My meandering takes me through a small town of Providence. It's one of those 4 way stop towns with a church and a few houses. Well I spot this truck (not for sale at the time), how could you not see the bright yellow paint and orange wheel rims. I told myself should I ever drive by and see the owner outside I'd stop and ask permission to use his truck as a quilt prop. Well low and behold about a month later Charles and his wife were standing there just waiting on me! I whipped my ole hunk of junk up in the drive and introduced myself. You never know if people are going to welcome you or not when it comes to country folk, some live out here because they don't like people. But Charles and his wife were the good kind of country folk, telling me to feel free to use the old truck whenever I wanted. They've recently put it up for sale, and I'd love to take it home but....all I can do is wish and dream. Thanks Charles for letting me drool all over your girl! Okay let's get back to the quilt. You've gotta have crosshatching and feathers in every quilt, right? I love the traditional look from the simple crosshatched blocks. The yo-yo placement was marked with blue water soluble pen before quilting. After the quilt was quilted the yo-yo's were stitched in place with a few tack stitches. I wanted to the the 3D effect on those also. POST EDIT on 11-6-2015 The border technique used for this quilt is from the book "Just Around the Corner, by Kari Carr". If your looking for the Inner Scallop border tutorial on my blog, I've removed it, you can read more about it here. The backing is vintage baby prints from my stash. Might as well make the whole quilt scrappy! Thanks for stopping by and dancing with me today! This post has been edited on 5/13/2015 due the huge response in the last couple of weeks. Dumpster Diving 3.0 is FINISHED! 48" x 62" Quilted with vertical wavy lines using Glide thread in Bark. The back was not what I had planned to use - it's better. I did a favor for Jill S. in Illinois and when she asked about repaying me, I suggested she send a few fat quarters. Well - she also sent nearly 6 yards of this striking African print. DD3.0 was the perfect place to use it. I'm super-pleased with the way I was able to marry the two sides for the seam down the back. Of course, there WAS some unstitching involved. I had long-planned to use this black and white striped binding. But after stitching 3 sides in place, I realized I did not like it at all. One evening in the recliner was all it took to remove the binding that can now be used on another of the waiting quilts. I think this green/brown striped binding works MUCH better. Here is the finished quilt draped over our back porch swing. (our aging red swing has a new home and we have a new weather-resistant turquoise model) SO happy with the way this quilt made from loads of scraps turned out. Crossing another one off that 18 in 2018 Quilting List! * * * And for those who have asked, I found the giant "mutant" clothespins online at Amazon.com. Just search for "Darice Super Jumbo Wood Clothespin, 12-Inch" * * * I must also beg for comment amnesty. I'm very far behind in responding and with this week's busy schedule, I know I won't get caught up anytime soon. Please know that I do VERY MUCH appreciate your kind words! Pastel Shades Today I reopened my Etsy shop and decided to sell some of my inchies. I enjoy the process of making inchies. I enjoy seeing a set come together and find new ways and new ideas to embellish them with each set I create unique. Pink & Red There are so many ways to use inchies, in bigger pieces of art, embellishing journals, bags, purses, iphone and ipad cases, jewellery making, quilts.......these are just a few, I'm sure there are many more. I'm selling them unframed to keep costs down and allow you the choice of how to use them. I will however be sending them out mounted on card, ready to be framed. The set of 16 fits nicely into a square frame available from IKEA. I have shown pictures of each set on the listings in the black and the white frames. These two sets are now up for sale and I'm hoping to get more up for sale soon. ******* Update : Pastel inchies set now SOLD but photographic prints are now available of my inchie sets in my ETSY shop. ******
