Voting has opened for the Bloggers Quilt Festival. You can vote for 3 different quilts by clicking on the little heart in the upper right corner of the thumbnail photos at the bottom of the post HERE. That link goes to the scrappy category where my Paper Dolls quilt is entered. There are many more categories that you can find HERE--lots of fun browsing! Finally, the last of the Halloween Hexies! The Spider The pattern packet says this is a Zombie, but it looks like a Mummy to me?!? The Haunted House--what's behind those glowing red eyes.....! I spent the weekend setting up my next group of hexies. I usually do 15 at a time since that's how many designs come in each month's packet, but since I am so far behind, I am choosing fabrics for 45--yikes! My wool scraps are sorted by color in plastic bags. I save even the tiniest scrap since they are usable in the hexagons. You can see I have a horrendous mess on my hands! And on the floor too... Once I get the fusible pattern on the wool, I rough cut the pattern design pieces, put them with a background hexagon, and stack them. Then I can put all those bags away and get on with the next step in my process: When I have some time to sit, I can trim the pattern pieces and start placing them onto the backgrounds. Then they will be fused down and ready for stitching--the perfect little take along project. There maybe a better way to do this, but it's seems pretty efficient to me. I plan to do some cleaning today--kind of obvious, I guess!

I have been asked many times about my method for hanging Mini Quilts, so I thought now was a good time to share my method with a quick and simple tutorial! I've been using this hanging technique for a couple years and love it! Not only is it easy, but your mini will hang flat...no drooping corners! While working on a quilt made of scraps, I had enough scraps from scraps (?) to make a mini quilt for this tutorial! 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" Mini Quilt Naturally you will need a quilt to make this tutorial work! You will also need the following: 2 - 3 1/4" Squares 2 - 3" Pieces of Twill Tape or Ribbon 1 - Piece of Wood (size to be determined later) Cut 2 - 3 1/2" squares and 2 - 3" twill tape. You can use any width of ribbon or twill tape. Mine happens to be 1/2". Fold your squares in half and press. On the backside of your quilt, place the folded squares in the top left and right corners of your quilt and pin in place. Place your ribbon approximately 2 1/2" on either side of the center of your quilt pin. (Placement will depend on how big your quilt is) The ribbon pieces will keep your quilt from pulling away from the board, keeping it flat and perfect. I don't tack the twill/ribbon down at the bottom. The smaller ones stay nice an snug to the board. If you use tags, now is a good time to add that too! Stitch 1/8" around to secure the pinned pieces. Finish your quilt by adding the binding in your usual method. Next, the wooden slat! If you wash your Mini's, do so before you cut the piece of wood to allow for quilt shrinkage. I use a couple different sizes of wood. Both are less than 1/4" thick, and either works perfectly well. I get my pieces at Home Depot, but I'm sure there are other sources that carry the same thing. The first piece is a precut 4 foot length. The second piece is used as screen door trim, and comes in all different lengths. Measure across your quilt from just inside your binding and subtract 1/2". Mine was 14 1/2", so I want the wood piece to be 14". This will still keep your quilt flat, but also allows for a little wiggle room to adjust for hanging. Mark the center of the board, drill a small hole and viola! you have the perfect hanging system for those amazing mini's! Before you drill the hole, make sure it's large enough to fit over the head of the nail you will be using. I have my husband deal with the cutting and drilling for me, not that I couldn't do it...he just likes to feel needed sometimes! I found that these little gadgets work great!! You can find them in the picture hanging section everywhere! (Home Depot, Joanns, Target) There are many different ways to hang mini quilts/wall hangings. This one is my favorite and works the best for me. I used a modified version of this method for a large 3 foot wall hanging. Instead of ribbon, I made four 'hanging sleeves' from fabric across the top. I did tack them down on the bottom because they were bigger and I didn't want any issues. I hope this is a useful tutorial! Do you have a favorite method to hang your Mini's? I would love to hear what it is! LINKING: Let's Bee Social WIP Wednesday Tips & Tutorials
Hi Everyone, Here is the first of the blocks for our big push to get finished with our quilt this month. I Was literally buried under fabric last month and unable to get even 5 minutes to get these tutorials done. I have had the blocks finished the video filmed since the middle of August. Speaking of Video. I am not posting it with this block. This is a super easy block and I am pretty certain you can do this one without the video. I do have video for it and it will be posted with the next post. The video incorporates all of the last 4 blocks. If you are using the Cricut Maker to cut your blocks you can find the cut files for this block here. My Brother and his Wife just had twins, I was excited for the chance to dream up “matching” quilts for the sweet babies. Being a boy and a girl I knew I needed a fairly gender neutral design, that could be feminine and masculine at the same time. My sister in law had decorated the […]
The best way to start off a week is with a parcel of new fabrics... and I was particularly thrilled to get these Lecien prints from Sew Deerly Loved because they're so hard to find. Not sure, but I think there's still more at the shop. I also picked up...
Being that I’m a swap addict, I participated in the latest Aussie doll quilt swap on Flickr. There were two parts to the swap – one was the regular doll size quilt swap and a second swap (for anyone interested) was a Christmas runner swap…well yes, two swaps at once… how could I resist? The regular doll quilt swap – my partner was a little quiet on Flickr and even now, I’m not sure if she has received her mini quilt. I couldn’t hold off any longer and decided that it’s time to share. This is the doll quilt which I sent to my partner. It’s 4 x NY Beauty blocks and I have to admit that it was difficult to part with this quilt. For the longest time I wanted to try to make these blocks and this was the perfect excuse. The fabric is called Baby Jane by Eric & Julie Comstock of Cosmo Cricket for Moda. I was so lucky to have an amazing swap partner and someone who I’m friends with on social media. For the longest time, I’d been drooling over the doll quilt which Jess of Scrappy n Happy was making. Can you imagine my surprise when I received my parcel and saw that it was from Jess!?!?! Yay!! Here is the beautiful quilt which Jess made for me. The applique is just amazing. Isn’t it just stunning? Not only did I receive this beautiful quilt, but Jess also sent me a gorgeous little zippy pouch made with fun owl fabrics. Yes, she knows me well. Thank you Jess. I loved it! Receiving this doll quilt inspired my wall of mini quilts – here are many of the doll quilts and mug rugs which I’ve either made myself or received through swaps. There area couple of others, but they’re being used in other areas of the house. The second part of the swap was the Christmas runner swap. This is the Christmas runner which I made for my partner Nora of iQuilt. I used some of my favourite Aussie Christmas fabric for the star centres. Christmas koalas are just cuteness! This is the runner I received from my partner Kirsten of Gemini Stitches. And lucky me, it’s double sided. I can’t decide which side I like more, so I’m alternating it every couple of days. Thanks to Kirsten of Gemini Stitches and Nora of iQuilt for organising the swaps. Okay, back to the sewing room. I have a few more cushions and a quilt to finish before Christmas and then I’m freeeeeeeeee.
Mini quilts are a wonderful way to accomplish a particular pattern or technique without investing lots of dollars into fabric and batting.

One of the hottest things among quilters online these days is swapping. People swap blocks, small quilts, particular fabrics and more. I thought it would be fun to show you some of the swap blocks I've made and talk about how a swap works. Of course there are endless variations, so this is just the
