Just had to show you the two amazing mini-quilts I received from my lovely little guild's swap with the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild in B.C. Click on the above link to see all the little lovlies. I made two to swap so I received two in return. The first one was made by Kate Davies. It is just so darn cute! Love the little umbrella girl with her fancy puddle boots. The free motion quilting is so creative, just perfect. Thanks so much to Kate. The second one was made by Phyllis Janzen. Such beautiful hand applique and hand stitched binding. My favourite text print for the background. Thanks, Phyllis, so glad I received your little creation. Here's the two minis that I made for the swap It's just about to start raining, so I am off to my sewing room to finish the last block in my "Paper Shredder Quilt" Hope to have it all sewn up into a top in the next few days. Hope you have a quilty day!

I’ve been quilting for 20 years, and I didn’t hear about 3-yard quilts until about 5 years ago. Facebook Live was becoming a more popular way for companies to sell and I began working with a shop that was looking for new designers to showcase. As I began watching their shows, I saw all these … Continue reading What and Why 3-yard Quilts
Recently I got to spend some time quilting on this lovely wool folk art quilt made by a customer. I just love it, and marveled at each and every block as I worked on it ~ so much so, I just had to share some photos :) The quilt maker, Margaret shared with me that it was a labor or love done in collaboration with her mother, Pat who did some of the embroidery and cotton fabric applique on it. What a special work of art :) You can see this lovely piece in person soon ~ Margaret says it will be shown at the Milltown Quilters Show April 27th thru 29th here in Columbia Maryland at the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. Information on the Quilt Show can be found Here on the Milltown website. ~ We'll be vending at the show too, so stop by and say Hi when you come!

Absolutely stunning embroidery piece by Narumi Takada of boot prints and animal tracks1 in freshly fallen snow. Just lovely.
After all these petals I’ve been doing I thought it might be time to re-do this tutorial for those of you who are newer to the blog. I just love this way of doing petals…it saves TONS of time. First, cut out a petal template using heat resistant Mylar or Templar. Trace onto the wrong side of your fabric and mark. Cut ¼ outside marked line. Make a small running stitch in the seam allowance. I’m just using regular thread here, nothing fancy. Place onto your pressing surface. I hold the corners in. Pull thread until the seam allowance wraps...
Update: The pattern is complete! You can purchase a copy at my Etsy Shop: Inventive Denim So I finally finished clipping the jean quilt, then brushing, washing and drying and here are the finished results! I love the way it turned out. I thought I liked it before I clipped it but I really like it now that it's been clipped and washed. I've made this type of quilt in the past and this time I decided to "prep" the raw edges prior to washing and drying. I've noticed that sometimes these kind of quilts need to be washed several times to get the full fraying effect. So, this time I "brushed" the raw edges with a hard bristled plastic brush- think of your toliet bowl brush- the kind with really stiff bristles (I didn't use a toliet bowl brush, however!). Here's what the quilt looked like as I progressed. I scrubbed the edges backward and foreward before it ever went into the washing machine. It was really frayed and oh-my-gosh it sure shed! It seemed to do the job, though, because it came out of the dryer (first time) perfectly frayed! I just love this type of quilt and I love that I am using up someone's discarded jeans to make a whole new creation. Thanks so much for stopping by! Heather :)

Help! I need two new cat block patterns to finish a new quilt comission. Got cats you can spare? I'm making the quilt as a Christmas present for my friend to give her friend. It needs to include five cats, all based on the recipients actual five cats. I'd like to use a different pattern for each cat to make them unique, but I only have three patterns. Here are the restrictions for the block patterns I need: * must feature a whole cat, not just the face (like the ones i'm showing here) * representational of a real cat, not cartoonish * must be pieced, not appliqued or paper pieced * must include cutting directions for a 12" block - or at least a 10", I can add a border if needed Can anyone help???

This is a PDF digital download pattern. This pattern has been a long time coming and was such a labor of love. I share a bit about my journey with this project in a recent and very personal blog post. I invite you to check it out. Anyway, The Drishti Quilt Pattern is finally available (November 1) and ready to help you create your next favorite quilt!! With just enough technical difficulty to keep an experienced quilter engaged and motivated, and detailed enough to allow a confident beginner to be successful, the Dristhi Quilt pattern is a great choice for all levels. It comes with 4 size options, is fat quarter/fat eighth friendly, full of options for changing the size, layout, etc., has a coloring page to help you plan, and is full of loads of tips and tricks to help you create with success. Photos 10-20 are pattern tester samples. Some may represent the options that are possible for changing up the pattern in small, creative ways and may not follow the exact pattern as I have laid it out. This is one of the many things I love about this pattern. I want quilters to play with options and find ways to use the pattern to make an original and interesting piece. #10- Megan @cartellastudios #11-Sandy @thaicharmllc #12-Lindsey @peartreedesignsco #13- Stacey @twoterriersstudio #14- Sarah @acorncornerquilts #15-Alicia @modernvintagehandmade #16- Deb @debkonopka #17- Sashanna @sashannahartmaker #18- Michayla @quilts_a_la_mode #19- Heather @creativequilts #20- Megan @vivikquilts **This pattern is a digital PDF download.**After purchasing, you will be sent an email with a link to instantly download your pattern. You’ll have a limited number of downloads. This block is in the mail and headed to my February block swap partner, Mary. Her preferences were neutrals and orange. I had some really pretty orange batik in my stash. Hope it arrives OK and that she likes the block. It is simple, but I liked the sharp contrast.
