Take your longarm quilting skills to the next level and create a beautiful piece of art by quilting a Dream Big Panel. Learn how I quilted my first one and what tricks I figured out the hard way.
So many of the longarmers that I follow on social media have been sharing pictures of these amazing panels that they have been quilting. Although I feel I was a little late to the party, I couldn't resist trying my hand at one too. The panel is from Hoffman fabrics and it is a digital print called "Dream Big." It comes in a lot of different colorways, but this purple was my favorite. Here you can see it just after it was loaded before I added any stitches. Figuring out what to do in the center was the most challenging part. A lot of others filled the center with pebbles, but I knew I wanted something different. A gave myself a few chalk lines as a guide, and chose to use a few pebbles and petals with lines that followed the print of the fabric. Once the centre was done the fun began. Feathers!!! I was able to quilt the entire panel with one color of thread. I chose my favorite 100 wt thread - Microquilter in baby pink. I two layers of batting - Quilter's Dream Puff on top of Quilter's Dream blend. The last design choice was deciding what to do where there weren't full petals. I choice tight parallel lines. I'm glad I chose a fairly a white backing for this one as I love how the quilting design looks. And one more photo just because I can. I sent this panel off to the quilt display at our local Art Centre, and I can't wait to have it back and find a home for it!
This pattern is designed for Hoffman’s digitally printed Panel “Dream Big Dahlia Panel”. Digitized for all types of longarm computerized quilting machines. The complete design is 42.5”x 42.5”. No segment is bigger than 12” in height. You can also use this design for a whole-cloth quilt. The complete design is divided up into 60 segments. No segment is taller than 12". I have left a “buffer zone” between segments so that there is no matching of points. Fit the design in its specific area and then quilt, Easy and straightforward. Available quilting machine formats in the digital download: BQM, CQP, HQF, HQV, IQP, PAT, PLT, QCC, QLI, and SSD. The quilted panel in the photos is quilted by Jane Prestidge.
This listing is for a digital quilting and embroidery design for the Hoffman Dream Big 44" panel. The file types included in this download are: bqm, cqp, dxf, exp, hqf, iqp, jef, pat, plt, qcc, qli, ssd, txt. vp3 and pes. You are not purchasing the panel, just the files to digitally quilt the panel with. There are 49 different designs included in this download. Each feather petal is an individual piece. Not a row. So you can fit them in on the dream big panel easily. I did not include an outline for each flower petal in this download. They are in red in the thumbnail pic to indicate where the flower petal is at. I did not include them because they never line up right. It's easier to outline them yourself or use the mark function on your longarm to mark the area and then stitch it out. You can also not outline the flower petals. I have quilted it both way and both are effective. *There are no refunds on digital downloads.

I've been busy. In January I went to the Handi Quilter head office for National Educator training in Salt Lake City. We had a great time getting to know each other better and learning from the Studio Educators and one another. We had a bit of show and tell. We had been challenged to quilt ice dyed panels that we had been given at 2016's educator training. I blogged about my efforts here. In addition to these quilts we were showing, some of us brought other quilts to show. Kelly Ashton showed a

See how I quilted the Hoffman Dream Big Holiday Panel. This panel is so fun to quilt and is the perfect place to do free motion quilting
I just finished this dream big panel for a customer. It has a bit of Christmas feel to it doesn't it? Nothing but free motion feathers all over, what a joy to quilt. I know these panels have been around for quite a while but this is the first time I've quilted a red one and I gotta say, it did give me a bit of Christmase Spirit! I hope as you are safe, healthy and filled with Joy this holiday season. This quilt has two layers of batting, quilters dream wool over 80/20. I used 60 wt glide and bottom line thread on top. I think the center has 40 wt Glide. I used Celery, a tan, read and dark green thread. Just a flurry of feathers!
