Sometimes you simply have the best of days and yesterday was one of them. After an early start and a gorgeous drive from one side of our country to the other side (unfortunately on my own, so no pictures of the beautiful sunrise over the frozen fields) I was early to arrive in beautiful Zutphen for the trunkshow and workshop by Edita Sytar that Petra Prins organised. As usual Petra took really good care of us, look at the goody bag that was waiting for us! And the mug in the picture was part of the goody bag too, we used it for our coffee/tea, Petra said to take it home with us afterwards, because she ‘doesn’t like washing up’ J ! The morning was taken up by Edyta’s trunkshow (with some help from her husband, Michael) ! Soooooo many beautiful quilts: And can you believe that this was just a selection of the quilts we saw, very difficult to make a choice for the pictures in this blogpost. This is a hard working lady, Edyta told us she owns more than 500 quilts she made herself…… and a loads of antique quilts too (I forget the number she mentioned… was it over a hundred?)! She gave a great presentation of various techniques some of which she also demonstrated during the workshop after lunch. In our goody bag we found a little kit to make a pincushion, I did start on mine, but was too busy chatting and looking at the quilts again to finish it. After all this of course I visited Petra’s shop, always a pleasure as was seeing some familiar faces during the workshop. And visiting Zutphen, such a beautiful town. After the long drive back home I had half an hour to change before a very special evening: a wonderful dinner hosted by a friend who decided she would celebrate her 50th birthday in style, by booking a complete restaurant for all her girlfriends and female family members! A special menu: and little cards she made to put in front of our plates so we would know each other’s name and our connection with her, a great idea and so thoughtful! I got home well after midnight and a just a little worse for wear, after the champagne and the wine, but hey, it was a special occasion and a special day! And while I was making this blogpost just now my (very wise) friend sent me two pictures which I thought I’d share with you: Thank you to Petra, Bep, Gerda, Esther, Edyta, Michael and my friend (50 is the new 30, I know it is ;-) !! ) for such a wonderful, memorable day full of fun and inspiration! Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We survived the weekend without Daddy here. Saturday we headed to the firehall breakfast where Emmy ate a pig’s worth in bacon (ironic since I don’t eat pork), and Sawyer ate a healthy stack of pancakes and syrup and we socialized with neighbors. After that we... Read More »

A SINGER Attachments Set, featured in a wrinkle-finished black metal SINGER case - all original. Attachments are Featherweight 221 and 222 compatible. This is one of the most coveted and desirable sets to own for Singer Featherweight Attachment Collections. Scarce to find, especially complete and in such nice condition. The attachments in this specialty Singer box fit and work perfectly on the Featherweight 221 and 222 - the Narrow Hemmer, Adjustable Hemmer, Ruffler, Binder, Quilter, Underbraider, Tucker, Seam Guide along with three bobbins, thumb screw, pack of needles, and two original Singer screwdrivers. The perfect set to keep handy! Each attachment is formally held in place by metal clips, making it easy to return each attachment and tool to its proper place when not in use. Take note of the Underbraider attachment. As you can see from this link, the Underbraider allows for that "certain something special" on a fashionable garment or craft project. Would be fun to use it to embellish a quilt block or handbag. Paying close attention, you will see that the underbraider guides the braid through while the quilter foot (without the bar) feeds and sews on the backside of the fabric - making the braid appear as if it is "floating" on the front surface. I took extreme close-up photos so you could see that the thread is hardly even noticeable, so be sure to look at all the photographs. Your purchase includes the following: SINGER Metal Boxed Attachments Case Ruffler Tucker Binder Underbraider Narrow Hemmer Adjustable Hemmer Quilter Seam Guide & Thumb Screw Large & Small Screwdriver Set Original Singer pack of needles (3) Featherweight Bobbins Replica Leaflet with Attachment Placement

The past 3 months have been jam packed with life changes and new stuff...but it's all good. Two of the biggest changes have been buying a new home which we moved into about 2 weeks ago...woohoo! The other "move" has been creating a new website. My favorite oldest daughter, Jenny, created my first website many years ago. She absolutely insisted I needed one and I couldn't figure out why. Seriously???? It has served me well and she has worked hard to keep it updated but I've outgrown it...it's time to move to a new "home". My new website should be launched in the next 24-48 hours so please keep your eyes and ears open for an announcement of my move. It will still be cindyneedham.com. As always I love to receive feedback from all of you and look forward to hearing back on the pro's and con's. My old website, as well as my old blog will be disappearing once the new website is launched. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all in my new "home". Hugs, Cindy

Summer is cruising by and I'm struggling to keep up with it! I'm wondering where those lazy days of summer disappeared to. It seems like it's been a few years since I've seen them! Hmmmm...may have something to do with the age of my kiddos! Back in May I was asked by my client to custom quilt this quilt she made for a Kaffe Fassett display at HMQS. Here's a bit about it... "Each year the Kaffe and Friends exhibit becomes bigger and better. Our group that started 7 years ago, has expanded from 15 ladies to about 45, and instead of being held in only one quilt shop, we now have three classes held in two different shops in Salt Lake and Ogden. The ladies, and one gentleman, are creative and exciting to be around. We used Kaffe Fassett fabric lines, and others that work well together, such as Brandon Mabley, Phillip Jacobs, batiks and more. This year the class consisted of Dresden plates in assorted varieties, small. Large, funky, stripes, solids, cutouts, inserts, paper pieced, and any other kind that the imaginations could create. The instructions were given each month and the members could select their own color scheme and decide on their final layout. We have skylines, underwater scenes, checkerboard backgrounds, gradations, trees, aborigional walkabouts, and many I have not yet seen. Join the movement starting again in January of 2015, at Elaines Quilt shop in SLC, or My Heritage in Ogden. The instructor, Kaye Evans has some more exciting ideas for the upcoming year. Call the shops for more information." This was one of the biggest quilts I've custom quilted...and definitely the most colorful! I love it! Honestly, I had so much fun quilting this (which I usually can't say about a quilt this large). I had no plan when I started quilting, other than to bring texture to the quilt. Because it's such a colorful quilt, I knew intricate quilting designs would get lost, so simple lines in various designs was my goal. I took about a bzillion pics. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! :)

The Half Square Triangle (HST) quilt block may be one of the most basic blocks but there are so many ways to make them! Recently I revisited my Sun Salutations quilt pattern (a quilt entirely constructed out of HSTs) and did a bit of math to make a smaller version. Once you know the basic formula
Hello again! I can't believe it's been a week since I've posted! My summer is still in full swing around here and time gets away from me too fast. I hope all of you are enjoying your summer as much as I am. Today I wanted to show you the project that I took along with me on my camping trip. My project was inspired by a photo that I saw on Pinterest.... using 5" squares that are sewn together and then adding crochet. You know that I love to add crochet edgings on several of my fabric patterns so when I saw the photo...I was inspired and started immediately! I just kind of made up my blanket as I went along but I have now discovered that there is a tutorial by Corey@Little Miss Shabby and a flickr group and it's a crochet along as well! It's called the Fusion Blanket Crochet Along. Fabric/Crochet fused together = fun!!! I love the fact that I have been able to use up even more of my precut leftovers from Sew Cherry, Daisy Cottage and Millie's Closet. I chose to use "I Love This Cotton" yarn in 68 Aqua that I bought at Hobby Lobby. It's so soft and the color is yummy and goes with all of my fabrics...and is 100% cotton which is a big plus for me. I like to work with natural fibers as much as possible. I have several squares completed so far... they really work up fast. I did a single crochet into each buttonhole stitch and then a double crochet into each single crochet and that's all! Easy peasy. *Take note that on the corners...I did 3 stitches instead of one:) I love the scrappiness of my blanket... I put some of the squares up on my design wall together to see how they will look when I crochet them together. I will just use a single crochet stitch when joining them and I think I will leave the holes in the intersections...I like how it adds a lacy kind of look. Of course I will make the final decision on that when I join them all together:) I know that today is Tuesday... and week 5 of The Great Granny Along!!! I don't have anything new to show you yet...but Jodi has some new blocks...so go over and see them! All of the beautiful blocks and quilts that are showing up on the flickr group are just amazing!!! It's been so fun to see all of them over the last 5 weeks:) Next post...I will be showing you a sneak peek of my up coming fabric line. Until then...have a quilty kind of day:) xx Lori
