A quilt story I really want to tell.
Too much time is spent on Instragram, moments snatched here and there. Enabling me to dream of much inspiration, aspiration --but in reality not enough time or expertise! However I instantly was taken by the quilt below. Cath's new nephew is framed most beautifully on this masterpiece. @cathmosely on Instagram made a gorgeous, vivid and bright rainbow baby heart quilt with a Kona Solids Roll Up / Jelly Roll. I scoured the net to find such a vivid Jelly Roll, only to be put off by the brutal shipping / postage charges from overseas. A light bulb moment ensured I raided the stash. I had a half jelly roll of Vintage Modern left from a previous project. I auditioned the fabrics several times, enlisting the help of family and friends to ensure the colours ranged from darkest to the lightest. Using a black and white filter on the camera also helped with colour placement / colour values. Absolutely brilliant. This magnificent work of art has been designed and made by the talented @cathmosely on Instagram Enlisting the assistance of my SIL the ever so prolific quilter, she had a pattern draughted whilst I was still muddling about at home. My SIL drew up a pattern, raided her stash, and made the quilt below. She is so quick, and so inspiring. Masterpiece from the SIL! Now for mine to be quilted, bound and gifted.
May 1st already! Can you believe it? That means it is time to start a new section of Gypsy Wife. Today I'm going to show you how I made Crazy Anne, one of the blocks in this month's section (section five). Only I'm not too sure if I made the centre section correctly, so follow my lead at your own risk! I began by making the centre rectangles (and this is the part I'm not sure about). I felt like I should off-set the two pieces at each end by quarter of an inch so that when I pressed the pieces open the diagonal went corner to corner exactly (see both pictures). When you see the picture of the finished block, you will be able to see why I am not sure if this is correct. The rectangle should measure 4.5" by 2.5" at this stage. Then I laid all my pieces out to check that I was happy with the fabric placement and so that I could put the pieces together without muddling them all up. I stitched the centre three pieces together, then I made the corner units. These are fairly straightforward, just follow the instructions in the pattern. Each corner block should measure 4.5" square at this stage. Sew the top and bottom row together, being careful not to accidentally rotate any of the blocks as you move them to your machine, then stitch the three rows together. You will be able to see in this picture that I didn't get sharp points in the centre where the star point meets the centre square. Maybe you are supposed to, maybe not? I'm not fussed, the great thing about Gypsy Wife is that it is such an explosion of colour and blocks that a few dodgy points go largely un-noticed.

I recently received a request for two butterflies a Monarch and a Blue Morpho. This is my first attempt at quilling a Blue Morpho butterfly. I hope I have done justice translating the image into quilling. The most difficult part was finding the right blue shade quilling strips. After many trials with different shades of blue I settled for this one. The strips had a beautiful sheen when rolled which I could not capture with my camera. I made another Monarch ,a detailed one . It took me many hours to make all the tiny tight coils . I made the whole butterfly with a very fine needle tool. Looks like my page is filled with butterflies and peacocks. Thanks for stopping by , Have a great day.

A peek into my love of fabric, piecing, and quilting!
It's the first day of summer and here in Arizona and it is HOT, HOT, HOT! It's definitely time to hole up in my studio and make new things until cooler weather is with us again. This year I got back from my latest trip and started studio clean up. Usually that process begins with putting away my scraps from recent projects, but this time I was confronted with this image. What a wreck! Not only can I not find anything in my scrap drawers, but I also can't fit any more in those drawers. As yo
I visited yesterday 5th Main Quiltfestival in Aschaffenburg. Just wanted to look around and see all the quilts shown. I didn't spend much time there and didn't buy any fabric from the shops there - sad to say, it's cheaper to order fabrics from US than buy them in Germany. And with prices almost twice as high here... well, I have to be in a really big need to buy any fabric in Germany. Another bad thing which I noticed were the prices of books. I planned to buy some. But when I saw the price of 36€ for a book which interested me, I decided to wait and check the price in an online shop (I buy book via amazon; prices are really good, sending fast and free). As you may imagine, the same book, new with free shipping was cheaper. And how! It costed only 23€ in amazon! I can understand few € difference, but not such huge one. Well... :/ The main purpose of my visit were quilts. Lots of quilts. Many traditional ones, few... hmmm... let's say extravagant and some, on which I could stop my eyes and looks with a pleasure :) Here are my few personal favourites (I don't have many photos): I like mini quilts more. Those exhibited on the festival were really wort seeing. This is my fav. Wonderful piece of art. Such tiny details, wonderful taste for colours. A masterpiece! Hugs

Are there any of you who also have this problem??? I already made this quilt!!! But I just HAD TO make it again! You can see the original Fox among the Birches quilt post here. I never used to have this problem. You see, I don't have the talent of being able to look at a stack of fabric and envision how it will look once cut up and pieced into a quilt. To help me with that problem I purchased the Electric Quilt (EQ7) program back in November of 2013. Last year I wrote about how much I have been enjoying using the EQ7 program and listed some of the things I like about it here in this post. My problem now is that whenever I use the EQ7 program to draw up a new pattern design, and fill it in with different fabrics and colours, I alway end up making more than one colourway that I wind up wanting to make! Another reason I wanted to remake this quilt is that I had come up with a new way to piece the legs for the walking fox and shared about that at the Let's Bee Social in this post. So now today I am sharing the Fox among the Birches using Kona Steel for the background instead of the Kona Mushroom. I used a dark grey thread on top and plain white Gutermann thread in the bobbin. And I love how well it has blended in with the background and yet remained rather subtle across the orange foxes. The background is Kona Steel. The birch trees are made from Minimalista by AGF Studio and a dark and light black smokey looking fabrics. The foxes are Kona Kumquat and Papaya. The backing is a new stash addition (my first one this year!) from Bobbie Lou's Fabric Factory and is called Out Foxed by Michael Miller Fabrics. Normally, I first attach the binding to the back and press toward the front before topstitching to finish. But this time I sewed it onto the front and then pressed to the back. Then I stitched in the ditch along the edge of the binding, catching the folded edge on the back with the bobbin thread. It's a bit trickier. But I like the thinner binding edge to be at the front sometimes. And then you aren't cutting off the points of your piecing either. The "Fox among the Birches" baby quilt finished at 38" x 45" and was the 39th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels ordered from Ikaprint. You can find the Fox among the Birches pdf pattern here in my shop. Linking up to Finish it up Friday with Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts Am I the only one? Today let's look at the Contrary Wife quilt block. Now the one I'm going to show you how to sew is not the Contrary Wife block that shows up on the first page of Google if you do a search for it. In fact, there are several quilt blocks called Contrary Wife and I'll probably be doing tutorials on them in the near future

I have been working so much lately and have had no time at all for fun sewing. But I’m determined to carve out some time very soon so that I can breakout of this burnout I’ve been feeling! So I was browsing my saved folders today and I thought I’d share a few items that are on my short list of things to make! 1. Patchwork Duffle bag by Knot and Thread Design High on my WIP list is a Patchwork Duffle bag from Kaithlyn of Knot and Thread Design (@knotandthread). I started one of these last year and would really like to finish it this year! I’d love to make a few for my girls for road trips too! They’re so fun and Kaitlyn makes bag making easy for someone like me! 2. Alpen Belt Bag by Center Street Quilts I’m also dying to make an Alpen Belt Bag by @centerstreetquilts. Kristina’s reels help someone like me who is a visual learner. I’m definitely making one of these this summer. 3. Rainbow Selvedge Quilt by SpunstrawI’ve been collecting selvedges forEVER. I’d love to finally make a selvedge quilt this year! This rainbow version by @spunstraw looks absolutely amazing. I might need to copy her! 4. Quilt Blocks by Silvers Stitches I ran across these blocks by @silversstitches on my explore page and I am OBSESSED with them. If I didn’t have so much on my plate right now, I’d drop everything and make an entire quilt of these blocks! It’s going towards the top of my quilts-to-make wish list! 5. Basically Anything by Inside the Paper BoxEverything @insidethepaperbox crochets is gold. Jessie amazes me with her talent! I’m only at granny square level when it comes to crochet but I aspire to be like Jessie when I grow up! What about you? What are you working on or wish you were working on? Let me know, maybe I’ll add a few more items to my list! 😁

20 years ago, we sold these hearts at Doodlet's. Oolie and I have been talking about them lately, both of us having the image fuzzy, but definitely stuck in our memories. When she was here a couple of weeks ago, we were in my studio and I SCREAMED!There they were - sitting in a frame along with several other little treasures I had collected. She was looking at things and I was showing her something in particular and THERE THEY WERE!!!!!! Oh, Happy Day.... close-ups above and belowWhat you do NOT see is that they are smaller than a dime (!!) Each would sit on my thumbnail quite easily and barely cover it. So luscious and so inspiring to me......and to Oolie.
