I don't know if you have a "quilting bucket list", but I sure do! And a cathedral window quilt was at the top of that list! There's something so elegant and perplexing about how they're constructed and I always love a good challenge of figuring things out and stretching my skills and this quilt did just that! I first d

Imagine my excitement when I learned Renee Nanneman (fabric designer for Andover and publisher for Need'lLove) chose my Cotton Daisies pattern to create this beautiful quilt using her new fabric line, Beehive. And...it's hanging in the Andover booth at Quilt Festival in Houston! Cotton Daisies quilt pattern can be found on my website: Laughyourselfintostitches.com Digital Downloads and Mailed Patterns Renee was so gracious to take a couple photos for me and i asked her to make sure she was in each picture!! She is the kindest person! Renee added a gold flange to her Cotton Daisies quilt, which adds such a nice touch! The quilting is gorgeous too! I can't take any credit for it...but whoever quilted this for Renee...it's wonderful! Here is my Cotton Daisies quilt. I literally pulled fabrics from my stash to make this and when i saw Renee's quilt, oh my gosh!! I loooove the softness of her Beehive fabrics! And the pattern cover...showing an alternative colorway...i think this quilt has soooo many color options! Looking for the pattern? I have it available in instant pdf's or mailed copies. Find them in My Etsy Shop And if you wait a bit, (Renee is at market right now) I bet she'll be offering some Cotton Daisies kits using her Beehive fabrics/pattern included! Thanks for stopping by! In case you missed it, the Deco Quilt pattern is now available! If you haven't already read my initial blog post about the two-color Deco quilt that I made, be sure to check that out here. You'll find my inspiration, pattern sizes fabric requirements and other details about Deco. Okay! My last Deco quilt to share with you is quite possibly my favorite one! This was my last Deco quilt to design....mostly because I was really held up by choosing colors! I initially thought that I had my colors nailed down, then I got about halfway through sewing all of my blocks and I HATED it. It was nothing like what I envisioned in my head! I loved all of the colors individually, but they did not work well together at all. I was in a little bit of a time crunch, so I was really bummed that I changed my mind. I actually wasted a whole day contemplating whether or not I should start over. In the end, the colors weren't sitting well with me, so I decided to start over! Thankfully, I used my Kona color chips to find other fabrics, and I ordered some fabrics online with expedited shipping. Once they arrived, I was still a little bit skeptical that it would turn out how I wanted, but I jumped in and hoped for the best! . From top to bottom, the fabrics are: Magnetism, Smoke, Bellini, Rose, Deep Rose, Sienna. This is how I used them in this quilt: Color 1: Sienna - 1/2 yard Color 2: Deep Rose - 1/3 yard Color 3: Rose - 3/4 yard Color 4: Bellini - 1/2 yard Color 5: Smoke - 1/2 yard Background: Art Gallery Fabrics Magnetism - 3.25 yards We have quilt kits to create this exact quilt in our shop! I sometimes like to stick with only one fabric manufacturer per quilt, especially if I know that it's going to be on the cover of a pattern. But since I originally thought that I was going to use all Art Gallery Fabrics for the quilt, I kind of had my heart set on using AGF Magnetism for the Background. When the AGF colors didn't work out and I had to make the switch to Kona, I decided to keep the Magnetism background because it just felt right. I would say a comparable Kona option would be Gotham Grey...but it's slightly more

When i arrived back from our trip to the seaside i got on with hand quilting this scrappy summer quilt, and after just a few evenings it was done :) ...i quilted it round the edge of each square and then diagonally across the middle of the squares..........i chose a red and white striped binding for it, inspired by the striped awnings of the flower market in nice........ ..............i love the prints in this quilt, as well as the floral feel and the bright fruit appliques and i liked how the red and white striped binding brought it all together............. .................the backing is a gorgeous pam kitty picnic fabric with cherries and roses on yellow...... .............i love all kinds of quilts and a huge variety of patterns, but i know i will always want to make ones with simple squares (and maybe a bit of embellishment) every now and then...... ..............i enjoy using text prints as a decorative feature too, and love how they look with a colourful image appliqued on top, like the cherries below which are sewn onto a patch of sew mama sew fabric......... ............i took pictures of this quilt all around the house, as usual following the best light, as well as avoiding bright sunlight..........here it is on an old chair in front of a book case on the top floor of our old house............ ...........sometimes i like to add buttons to my quilts, and i had a little look at these fruit buttons from just another button company to see if any would look nice on my new quilt............. ...........i decided just to add the lemon slice to the patch which had lemons appliqued on it....... ...............here is daisy whirling and twirling with the new quilt.........the children use the quilts and the crochet blankets to make houses and tents and to wrap up their toys and each other :)............. ...............we thought the chicken might look pretty with the quilt too...........it is a money box and full of loose change at the moment so is very heavy............ .............just as my summer quilt is finished we are feeling autumn in the air............the weekend was a mix of autumn coolness, strong winds, grey days and some sunshine..........we had a special outing to a lovely garden where i took this photo of the golden dahlias............ ..............and i will leave you with this photo of the gorgeous zinnias which have been brightening up the cutting garden recently...........though a snail or two have been secretly munching on them over the weekend and the effect was not a good one.............. ..............thank you for visiting me today, lovely readers, it is so good to see you...........and thank you too for taking the time to leave a comment, it is always a treat to hear from you too :).............i hope you have a wonderful week ahead, wherever in the world you may be..............back soon xxxxxxxxx

Hovea is the perfect pattern to take your time with and enjoy the process of quilting. Hand quilting your Hovea jacket is so rewarding, and today I’ll be sharing with you a few tips for hand quilting your Hovea jacket or coat. After taking the UpCycle Stitches Sashiko course last year I was so excited to jump into applying what I had learnt to a garment. I hand quilted this Hovea jacket over the course of a week whilst my eldest Bunny was recovering from having our wisdom teeth removed (more on that later) and it was the perfect project for snuggling on the couch with her watching movies. Let’s go! Baste and Pin Basting and/or safety pining your quilt sandwich together is very important for a number of reasons. This will not only make […]

My list was smallish for this week - try to finish 6 cat blocks and cut out the sashing ready to go.✅ - sew on the hanging sleeve to my background filler project❌ - take some photos of my Christmas quilt. I think I will put that in my Etsy shop for sale even though it is a bit late now...well, there's always next year.✅ The last bit of the cat quilt went quicker as I could see the end. I chain pieced along saying the names of the individual cats as I was sewing along so I would not get confused. Must have been really focussed as I did not mix up their faces 😂 Ran into a bit of trouble as I thought I had oodles of background fabric. Well, as it turned out it was just enough. Had a mild suspicion when I started to cut out the sashings. I have a table which tells me how many pieces I can get out of one strip. for the sashing it was 4, 10-1/2in pieces per strip but as I was starting to cut I noticed that I was only yielding 3 pieces! I then cut my outside borders as well of which I needed 8, 4in strips so that ate up a lot of fabric. In the end I had to cut some off some length from my border strips to make the sashings go the distance. A few anxious moments there and I thought that in the future I will put my background fabric away with the UFO. As years pass I do forget what I am working on or better said what I have stuffed away somewhere and it is just too easy to cut into your background fabric when you actually need it. Lesson learnt. Here is the completed quilt top It turned out so pretty, just like I had envisaged it. The quilt will measure about 57in x 66in. Had to go yesterday to look for some backing and batting and spent half a fortune acquiring it. Washed the backing and now just have to find some spare time to put it all together. Looking forward to quilting this. Today then I finally put up my Christmas quilt in my Etsy shop. It is a bit late but what can you do. There is always next year. Its a pretty little quilt. I used wool batting which makes this nicely soft and a little bit puffy. The quilt measures 32-5/8in x 47-1/2in, so a good size for a bit of a fun festive wall hanging to adorn the halls. Glad this is done so that I now can concentrate on other projects. Again, planning is the magic word rather than jumping around all over the place which I have been doing over the last few months. Linking up to To Do Tuesday #51 over at Quilt Schmilt. Karin

How to sew a quilted coat: tips on choosing fabric, a coat pattern and a quilt pattern plus tips on how to make your coat fit!
When I think of crafts, I picture these weird-looking items floating on Etsy like eternal shipwrecks that rise to the surface every time you genuinely need something. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with pursuing your hobby, but it’s a whole different story if you’re trying to make money out of something you wouldn’t buy yourself. Hence, there’s an entire craft-shaming movement that humorously mocks such instances.
