Today i thought i'd write about this old red and white checkerboard quilt of mine.....there have been so many enquiries about it over the years even though it is such a very simple design........ .................the picture below is one of the most 'pinned' of all my blog pictures..... ............so in answer to those lovely readers who have asked for details about this quilt here are a few.....it is made from 4inch squares and i paper pieced it by hand ( quite a few years ago)........ .............i used any scraps of fabric from my stash for the coloured squares as long as there was some red in the pattern..........then i arranged them alternately with plain white squares to create the classic checkerboard pattern.......there are 225 squares altogether......... ...........when the squares were sewn together (in rows of 15) i added a 3 inch white border all round.... ............i decided to hand quilt around each square just inside the seam and then to quilt a 2 inch square in the centres..........i used i inch quilting tape to give me a guide line to sew the centre quilting squares....... ...........we have used this quilt for years now and it has been washed and tumble dried many times and is still fresh and new looking...... .............it is such an easy pattern and when i made it it was without much though at all ;).....yet it works and is pleasing to the eye in its simplicity...........a true scrappy patchwork quilt....... ............the backing is one of my favourite pink and white candy striped fabrics (though if i had made this quilt now i would have bought a red and white fabric specially and not just used one i had the most of in my stash at the time).......and (another favourite) red and white gingham binding............ .............i hope this post will help to answer all the questions this quilt has received over the years from lovely readers both here and on facebook :)............x ..............here is a more recent shot of the checkerboard quilt on my quilt ladder and below with the little bears from my new book modern vintage gifts.............. ...........this past week has been quite a rollercoaster ride for me and i am glad of my little crafty world to escape to sometimes and of my dear friends and family who have shown me so much kindness....and that includes you my sweet blog friends too of course..........x ...............thank you to everyone who visits me here in my little blog space......it is always a pleasure to know you are here and to read your kind comments.............wishing you all a wonderful week ahead with sweet flowers and peaceful crafty times to enjoy.........back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Today, I would have been greeting Laura and Charlotte, just a couple of my students, to my Flutter class at the Garden of Quilts event but as you are aware, there are no classes, lectures, demos or trunk shows this year (above picture taken at LAST year's Garden of Quilts event). Flutter is such a fun, happy and lively design that we patterned with Hidden Shoofly as part of our TWO Designs in ONE Pattern concept!! Do you want to know why? If you look closely at the Flutter block, you'll see the Hidden Shoofly block right in the center! Its the simple ADDITION of Quick Angled Rectangles to the top, bottom and sides of the Hidden Shoofly block that creates the Flutter block! Do you see it now? Pretty neat, huh?!!! I may not be teaching my Flutter class today but I do have Gem Stone Brights Flutter kits available here! Flutter typically takes a Fat Quarter bundle but we wanted you to experience the FULL color range of the Gem Stones Brights prints. Your kit will consist of 1/3 yard EACH of ALL the Gem Stones Brights prints plus background and binding! As you can see from the Flutter blocks above, the color shifts in tone and in others, the color shifts to a different color all adding to the charm and beauty of Flutter! If bright and white is not your cup of tea, we are also offering Flutter in our original Gem Stone prints on black ground here! Until next week, Happy "Flutter" Quilting! Gerri

Listing is for a printed copy of the Buttoned Up Quilt Pattern. Buttoned Up is a traditionally pieced quilt recommended for the confident beginner sewist & up! The pattern includes instructions for making a large throw size (65 1/2" x 77 1/2") and a small throw size (53 1/2" x 65 1/2"). Buttoned Up includes a bonus Heart Button block pattern as well! You can incorporate the block in your quilt top or use it for small projects such as mini quilts, tote bags, and pillows! The pattern consists of five various button blocks (all finish 10" square) that are arranged randomly throughout the quilt. The 21-page pattern includes tags for organizing your cuts of fabric, downloadable coloring pages, detailed instructions, and colorful diagrams.
This is a PDF digital copy. After purchase, you can instantly view the pattern under your Etsy account. Click on Purchases, then Downloads. Viewing the pattern works best on a laptop or desktop. PLEASE NOTE: when printing templates, be sure your printer is set to "Actual Size" NOT "Scale to Fit". Mountain Horizon is inspired by the way the sun rises and falls over a mountain range, and the resulting colors of the horizon. Each block plays off the next with the sun coming between two mountain peaks. This is an intermediate pattern, which requires sewing curves and working with bias edges. This pattern assumes that the quilter has a basic knowledge of quilting. Paper templates for the curved pieces are provided and I recommend cutting them out and tracing them onto a sturdy surface such as cardboard or plastic template paper. This pattern is written for five sizes: Wall Hanging (16" x 33"), Baby (33" x 33"), Throw (49" x 65"), Full/Queen (81" x 114"), and King (114" x 114"). Since this pattern is block based, you can easily add or subtract blocks to customize size. This pattern is written for use of Fat Eighths/Quarters or Yardage. A Fat Eighth is considered a 9 x 21" cut of fabric and a Fat Quarter is considered a 18 x 21" cut of fabric. All yardage is assumed to be 42" wide. All seam allowances are 1/4". This pattern includes helpful diagrams and a coloring page to help you plan your fabric selection. Tip! Pattern requires cutting along bias edges, meaning fabric is prone to stretch. Handle fabric carefully and use starch as desired. Pattern is for one person use. Copying, redistributing or selling is strictly prohibited. You may sell quilts made using this pattern on a small independent scale. Please credit design to Lo & Behold Stitchery. Throw quilt with purple was created by Eliane Bergmann. Wall hanging quilt was made by Fran Gulick. Enjoy!
This organizer is great to use for stories such as: -The Keeping Quilt -The Josefina Story Quilt -Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt -The Patchwork Quilt -The Name Quilt -The Quiltmaker's Gift, The Quiltmaker's Journey -Little House on the Prairie Series OR, during any type of "Pioneer Days" unit! I am so excited to introduce you guys to my favorite, most meaningful quilt pattern yet, Interwoven! I designed this quilt as a gift for my husband. He's been asking for a quilt of his own for the past several years. I've been hesitant to get started on such a project because well, I wanted it to be perfect. The colors, the design, the quilting, everything! If you've seen our home decor, you'd quickly pick up the fact that we love neutrals. Little pops of color here and there are nice, but overall, I love calm and soothing color palates for the majority of our decor. Sometimes grays feel a little too cool for me, but I really love the soft and warm tone of Kona Doeskin. I'd maybe call it more of a tan gray. I paired Doeskin with Kona Snow (always my go-to white), and I knew that I wanted his quilt to contain only these two colors. When brainstorming designs, I wanted to create something timeless. Block-based patterns are nice, but I just didn't picture that kind of quilt on Peter's recliner. I wanted something with depth and movement. Something that made you stop and stare. I love geometry and playing lines and shapes this was a fun challenge for me! I played around with these lines on my computer for several months before I was happy with the overall aesthetic of the quilt. I then turned my plans into action, and I ended up loving it even more than I originally did! And most importantly, he loves it too. :) While I am a huge fan of two color quilts, I know that many of you love color and gradients. I do too, in the right context :) So I decided to introduce a fun color option for this quilt. I toyed around with how to incorporate colors into the quilt. Alternating colors between the lines was an option, but that seemed too busy and circus-like to me. I finally decided on doing a gradient across the horizontal axis of the quilt to give it a entirely different look. Not only do your eyes move with the lines, they also move as the colors fade from top to bottom. Love it! This is such a fun quilt to use with color gradients! The throw size uses eleven colors while the crib size uses nine. I suggest choosing 1-3 colors, then build your various shades from those colors. Both the two color and multi-color versions include instructions for two sizes, Crib (42
